Description
Trade Explanation:

Lupul, Holland, Percy for Clowe, Blackwood and 2017 2nd round pick
-Toronto rids themselves of 3 players that aren't Babcock favourites. Toronto takes on Clowe's contract, much like they did with Horton, to get rid of Lupul. NJD needs offence and they get that with this trade.

Bozak for DET's 2016 2nd round pick
-Detroit lost Datsyuk. Detroit needs centerman....Bozak is available....nuff said

Free Agents:

Stammer - Duh. Legit superstar, 1st line center, 30-50 goals per year, Gary Roberts like fitness freak....etc. etc.

Matt Martin - Guy hits everything and provides some protection to our rookies. Also a bit of a homer pick for me seeing is how he is from my hometown.

Al Montoya - Good veteran backup for the inevitable collapse of Bernier

Jimmy Vesey - wishful thinking here but hope he signs

Bozak at his present day value won't get a 2nd rounder i don't think.

The NJ trade won't happen. With Clowe they have LTIR to compensate for his cap hit and (I've only learned about this recently as well) they get compensated up to 80% for his salary by an insurance company. That's the difference between the Horton deal. The Jackets gambled on the fact that Horton would stay healthy so they didn't insure his contract (terrible idea for a guy with multiple concussions already). So the insurance wouldn't pay for it. Columbus had to pay every penny for a player that would never play again. Since they were on the hook for his salary, they figured might as well trade him for a player that will actually get to play for the team in Clarkson. Not sure that worked out too well for them since the LTIR cap relief is probably worth more in value than Clarkson's production so far.

Hmmmm....didn't know they were insured with Clowe. I remember reading that they were trying to rid themselves of his contract not that long ago. And I believe in the right situation, like Detroit, Bozak would grab a 2nd rounder. Good 2nd/3rd line guy, great on faceoffs and good defensively. Detroit loves those guys....They did have Richards and Weiss last year. Bozak is better then both of those guys right now, IMO

Wow that Devils trade is bad. Where are they getting "offence"? Lupul is done, Holland is a press box plug and play, and Percy is an AHL depth player (if he clears waivers). Really bad

Agreed Lupul is done in Toronto but may have a season or 2 left in him to put up 15 goals and 15 assists. Holland still has a tiny bit of potential to be a 3rd line offensive player. Shown flashes of that in the past and Percy is a calm and heady player. Not given a chance or will be in Toronto. We are also taking a bad contract from a budget team. That is a valuable thing. Look what we got from Washington at the deadline for Winnik. Laich, Carrick and a 2nd....

Why would NJ give up a good asset for little to nothing, though. They are also rebuilding a bit. Lupul will be 33 with little left. He can't offer anything besides maybe a bit of depth scoring. Holland didn't see the ice for TML, why would he see the ice for NJ who have better C on roster and prospects coming? He is also an RFA who might be gone for nothing...If you want blackwood you need to consider a good pick or a prospect out of our top 5 and go from there.
