Don't think the Leaf do this trade. They lose long term value as Kreider and Vesey are just one year rental. If the purpose of the trade (for the Leafs) is to find a suitor to take a retired Marleau's contract, that should be the Leafs focus. Certainly the Leafs would be have lots of cap space in 2020/21 without all those players except Andersson and Poink, which may a good aspect of the trade for the Leafs if that's goal of the trade. Interesting complex trade, which might work.

Drop the pick swap and i think its a fair trade. Rangers would want to condition something on Kreider signing there long term, or if they allow the Leafs to negotiate a long term deal before the trade then it would change the compensation. But it is reasonable for sure.

I also think the Darling Contract is pretty bad, and the Rangers wouldnt have to sweeten as much to get him for Staal.
