Description

What I believe to be a realistic look at the NJD roster potential.
1. Draft Hughes.
2. Trade with Tampa to take on a bad contract, acquire Raddysh in the process (Tampa NEEDS cap help, could use a RD)
3. Signed Carrick, Butcher, Zacha, and Mueller to respective contracts.
4. Signed Ferland to provide physicality to the lineup.

No big UFA signings, main focus is extending Hall, Nico, and possibly Bratt. Keep an eye open for a trade target defenseman

The Devils need to do something about their defense: they were in the bottom 10 last year and I doubt just adding Ty Smith would make them much better.

Agreed. And, with a stockpile of 2nd and 3rd round picks, I feel as though this will get addressed. Carrick seemed to step up and be an upgrade once acquired, but I do agree that a right shot defenseman should be a priority. That being said, the Kinkaid/injured Schneider combination didn't help. Once Schneider got healthy and Blackwood was in the mix, that alone improved things in a big way.

The primary targets are top 4 (top 2, even) right shot defenseman, and a Right Shot wing. 9 or 10 left-shot forwards seems to not be ideal, either.
