No, the deal is just about where he would land. Anywhere north of this would be overpayment for what you get from him, but on the other hand, highly doubt that this would go through if it was Nylander Toronto might do a deal.obviously for a lesser haul, but it doesn't reach Marner imo. Savard is decent at best, Murray is a top 4 D guy, and Milano is a Bottom 6 F. That doesn't reach Marner, sure you are taking on Marleau, but he isn't a cap dump necessarily he is more just overpaid.

$4.5M is low for a 5 year deal. He most likely will take less on a shorter "prove it" deal. He has potential and is being held back with injuries so it would be worth it for him to bet on himself.

I agree if Marner signs for a reasonable amount ($10M or less). The leafs cant afford Marleau and the extra $1.5M on Marners contract plus the help from Werenski on defense is much needed for them. Not saying it will happen, but it is conceivable.
