Your title is misleading, because it's a lot for McDavid. I really do not know what to make of it, but I think even though the Lightning faltered, they want to keep most of their players and take a stab at it again. The oilers may not be able to afford all of them anyway.
The Callahan trade on the other hand would certainly be rejected. NYR (or any other team taking on Callahan) really only have to take Callahan for around 3.15 million (5.8- 2.66, which is the difference between his full salary and what the cap hit would be this coming season if TB were to buy him out). TB would still love to trade Callahan for any discount, but it could cost more than just trading down in the draft, considering TB has less leverage in its position.
