Forgot to say, retained 1.5M each year for Staal contract. I think these are fairly accurate value trades and fills needs of both teams.

Gotta ask, how does Marc Staal fills the needs of the Canes? The Canes have Dman, but they just lost one good youngster in the trade and the 40th overall..
Gotta ask how Stepan fill the needs of the Wild? Yea Stepan might be better than Coyle, but Coyle is 3.3m cheaper which gets the Wild another asset. And the Wild to give up a 15th overall pick too.
Just asking, how do these players fill the needs of the Rangers?

staal adds veteran leadership to a young defense, Raanta is pretty self explanatory and Staal would also be a name to sell seats. Stepan would be the best overall center the Wild have and they reportedly have serious interest. The Rangers would get Coyle who is a versatile top 9 player who can play wing or center. Pesce gives the Rangers a cheap replacement on the bottom pair who can replace Staal on the left and use most of what we saved from Staal and Raanta trade for Yandle. I'm not saying they would happen but pretty sure these trades fill needs and the value seems good IMO

Agree with you (palhal) 100% on the Staal to Canes logice. Not really there. They are fine at D and operate on an internal cap. Just don't see them having interest in Staal. Plus, that is a lot of term for NYR to be carrying extra Staal money. Non-starter for a cap team.
Inre Stepan, Larry Brooks (as close to an "insider" NY press has) wrote that Wild are very, very interested in Stepan. I don't think NY would be interested in Coyle in the trade, but could be wrong. NYR should certainly TRY to sign Yandle, but all indications are that Gorton isn't going to be in the business of haphazardly handing out high $ LT contracts. Who knows there.

yes I'm well aware of what Brooks said, but if they could move cap around like this why not? Rangers should be going for it realistically (within reason of course) while Henrik is still a very good goalie. They keep their best overall D man, have an elite top center which they have lacked since Messier, stay under the cap, and pick up some picks in the process.
