Description
This can only work if Marleau accept, I know and understand that he need to waive his clause

As the prospects perform in the AHL (If they do), if mtl see fit, move them up and move guys like Weise, Alzner or Thompson down in the AHL. With injuries through the year, recall we will be needed.

I don't believe Marleau want to be in MTL, I think he will be more favorable to wave his NTM to San Jose. If MTL can get more of San Jose, good, but at 39 yrs I think a 3rd is a push, but I would like see MTL receiving something significant for retaining 2,500,000$.

Yep, would be nice to see Panarin, Karlsson, Eberle, Skinner, Duchene as UFA in MTL or an offer to Marner, but It's likely not going to happen, its good to try or be in the discussion.

IF MTL is in the position to make the playoff, they will have cap space, prospect and picks to add value to the team for the playoff. Not really optomistic for 19-20, but the future is bright. Price/Weber are getting older, MTL already missed their prime age, hope they age good like good wine (Like Rinne or Giordano ) instead of turning into vinegar

Saving Cap for Domi, Juulsen and Mete increase is important to avoid cap issue in 20-21

Wow... this would actually help Toronto. Sorry I’ve just seen so many help Toronto posts where teams try to pillage us and call it helping. The offer for Marleau may be too fair.

in 19-20 MTL have cap space, instead of investing on UFA, just an opportunity to use the cap to gain picks in 2019. TOR will need to eat a bit of salary to be able to turn it over to San Jose, MTL will take what they can at 50%. I don't think Marleau would waive his NTM to many team, SJ might be a favorable place for him. Most contender don't have space and are looking to make space.

Good thought on the trade. Don't know why some folks couldn't follow your logic in the trades which sent Marleau to San Jose. If Montreal has cap space....retain to the max 3.625m which San Jose would like. even more. Not sure if San Jose has an interest in Marleau even at have price. The bit about helping the Leafs....well the Leafs can probably make that deal with another club, but if Montreal makes the deal they get the 2nd rounder, do why wouldn't the Habs do the deal.
