Skinner is part of the problem

For the Sabres sake, they should be objective on Skinner. If they don't think he has long term value, just let him go as a UFA and spend that money better elsewhere, if not this year in the future.

I mean I understand the sentiment, but having the ability for a slightly lower AAV bc you can go 8 years, the fact that generally the reports are that skinner wants to stay.

He’s a big time even strength scorer. Will still probably hit 40G or just under. 8x8 makes sense for both player and team.

OK. If you think it's makes sense long term, I'm not disagreeing. Throughout the years, we have seen teams acquire players who need new contracts soon, and then they resign him. Not so much that the new contract makes sense, it's because they seem to have to justify the trade. It would be sorta "embarrassing" for Sabres to give up futures for a one year rental, if they don't resign Skinner.
I'm optimistic for the Sabres. Think they are establishing a good base and with good management...finally, will be making big steps forward soon.
