This wouldve worked nicely if you did not trade for Gudas which would higher our cap space by 2.65 or smth like that million..

Alright. Pay a premium to get 50% retention on Gudas for the year. That plus 550k cap space would allow 3 players on the roster near league min. So sign a couple before the year/using ones we may already have would get us there.

I dont get the fascination with Gudas.. he is bottom pairing guy on most NHL teams including Leafs, he is overpaid Polak basically.. Mirco Mueller is better than him in defensive regard and far better skater and puck mover than Gudas whose main advantage is to throw a hit and have other team score because he is out of place after that hit.. And he is a loot cheaper. for 3 league min players you need close to 2.1mil which is 2/3 of Gudas contract. He is not going to be a leaf luckily.. There would be tweakings tho.

All fun and games until someone gets hurt in warmups, which happens more than you think.

Also, Kapanen and Johnsson don't sign 3 year deals at that AAV.

Just thinking when a 20 man roster is made and no cap space available....it doesn't work. If cap space is needed, I don't understand why the obvious 7m cap hit....and very $$$$ friendly payout 4.7m Nylander isn't traded.
