davejud8...this is smarter move for 1st overall
Sorry dude but that's completely insane. This is the 1st overall pick you're getting. I don't care what draft it is, you're going to overpay for that asset. Davejud8's edition was SIGNIFICANTLY closer to a fair trade. I would have the Devils to add like a forward prospect or a 2nd rounder and then it'd be right on. Taking the Devils best forward AND their best Defenseman AND the 1st overall is ridiculous unless you double that return.

NY Isles
While that might be approximately what Palmieri is worth to the league, he's worth far far far more than that to the Devils. Hometown kid playing first line RW and scoring ~30 goals a year is nearly priceless.

No interest in Hornqvist from the Devils. Would prefer something like Maata and a 2nd. Seems like you guys might entertain the idea of moving him.

Yup. That trade has to include getting a contract back from Tampa to make things work for them. In this case, I would take Callahan back from TB and throw in a pick.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DanteDevilsHockey</b></div><div><div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HockeyNM1510</b></div><div>That ANA trade is so unrealistic. Silfverberg is untouchable and Fowler is worth a LOT. So for the Ducks to even consider trading both they would have to get the #1 Overall Pick, Hall, and Palmeri.</div></div>
I'm not saying this ANA trade is fair, BUT 1st OVA (Nico/Nolan), Hall, and Palms for Fowler and Silfverberg. That's two franchise forwards and a consistent top 6 forward for a top 4 d-man and a top 6 guy who everyone in ANA thinks is God right now because of his streaky/hot play as of late. C'mon buddy</div></div>
I legit burst out laughing when I read that. This guy has been drastically overrating his players on here for weeks. It's ridiculous.
And the ANA trade isn't far off. Getting an '18 1st rounder is huge because of how deep the draft is. Wood and Quenneville are both solid prospects with top 9 potential. Plus a 2nd and a 4th. Big haul, given that ANA needs to trade a few players to make things work for expansion.

Frankly, if the Rangers get offered that package for Krieder, you take it and run. Two firsts and FOUR decent prospects. Krieder is a nice player but he's not worth anywhere close to that much.

Focus on scoring
I've been thinking about the Kovalchuk to TB idea and I think to really seal the deal, the Devils are going to need to take a contract back. For example, sending Callahan to NJ as part of that trade would clear a TON of space for Tampa which would be super helpful for them.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ON3M4N</b></div><div><div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NateElder12</b></div><div>honestly I think they would be looking for Galchenyuk straight up.</div></div>
No team is giving up a player like Gally to get Kovy from NJ. There are only so many teams he'd be willing to play for and NJ honestly has little power in this. If Kovy doesn't get what he wants, he sits out another year and becomes a UFA free to sign with whomever he wants.</div></div>
Kovalchuk wants a multi-year deal and that becomes next to impossible after he turns 35. Any deal after that point counts against the team's cap regardless of what happens with the player so if he wants to leave again or gets hurt, the team is stuck with the full cap hit of a 35+ deal. Since he's 34 now, it's his only chance to get what he really wants.
So NJ has a LOT more leverage than you think.

Outsider Posing a Trade (MTL/NJD)
As a Devils fan, totally on board with this. Devils get a young center that can be part of the group moving forward. Habs get a scorer that can help them now before their window closes. Plus they aren't really using Galchenyuk to his potential anyway.

Rebuilding the team with no prospects
This is all over the place. Kovalchuk return is WAY too high and the Schneider return is WAY too low. The Palmieri trade would never happen because he's a core player but that trade is WAY too much for Brown. And the Devils never trade with the Rangers so that wouldn't happen either.
You didn't sign any RFAs or bring up any of the players would are slated to be in the NHL next year besides McLeod. The two UFAs you signed would be useless in NJ, given what we have coming up. You've got Clowe playing when he's retired and DSP playing 2nd line when he couldn't crack the line up last year.
Honestly seems like a troll to me but if not you should do a little more research on this stuff.

You're still grossly overrating your players given the Expansion situation. Fowler is not worth a 1st, a 2nd, a 3rd, two quality forward prospects and a productive veteran forward. Hamilton went for a 1st and two 2nds a year ago and he's better than Fowler is.
And remember, the Ducks HAVE TO TRADE at least 1-2 of these guys or risk losing Silfverberg.

Ducks Defensemen Trade Value
I constantly see you chirping about this stuff but you're not taking the Expansion Draft into account and that GREATLY effects these prices. If you do nothing, you're guaranteed to lose either Silfverberg or Manson. Assuming Bieska doesn't waive, which he won't.
Likely, the right thing to do is trade two of Fowler, Vatanen and Manson. That would let you protect all the forwards you want (and potentially acquire) while not losing any important defensemen for nothing. Since the Ducks likely have to do something like to not get screwed by a new division rival, the prices will be lower than usual.

Actually. Trading for Merrill in this situation is a boon for Anaheim because he can fill your exposure requirement for the expansion draft. As is, you stand to lose Josh Manson, which I'm sure you don't want to do. The picks are just extra assets that you can't actually lose.

He plays for the Devils
OR
The Devils sign and trade him for additional pieces.

That could be. I've seen both, and Friedman thinks he'd have to sign a new deal as well. It seems to be a question mark at this point since no one ever "retired" with such a lengthy contract before. I wonder if his recapture penalty would apply to a team he gets traded to?</div></div>
When he retired, his contract became null and void. That's been 100% confirmed. If he comes back, he'll need to sign a new deal. And to elaborate on that, he'll need to sign that contract with NJ and then be traded elsewhere. You can't trade the rights of retired players.

That's not how it works at all. Vegas can still take him by signing him to a new contract during the selection period and that would count as their selection from the Leafs. They basically have an earlier Free Agency period than the rest of the league.

That's honestly an overpayment. Nashville can benefit GREATLY from moving one of their big 4 defensemen in a trade because they're currently slated to expose a ton of good forwards in Expansion. Getting two (very solid) futures, a first and a second to help Nashville out of a bad situation would be a mistake on NJ's part.

Actually, that trade WOULD help them. As of now, they need to go with the "8 Skaters" protection route because of Bieska's NMC and the number of quality defensemen they have on the roster. Moving Fowler means they can do 7/3/1 and thus protect Cammy and other forwards they would otherwise lose.
