There's no way Ottawa is giving up Tkachuk for Draisaitl and a bunch of dead weight.

Lmao this is unbelievably trash for Ottawa. Ottawa's giving up the best pieces without anything close to the quality they need to replace him.
Pinto isn't going anywhere, he's probably Ottawa's 3rd most valuable forward long term.

What???? Mathieu Joseph is worth a hell of a lot more than a late-4th-rounder in 2026. Maybe last season you could have gotten away with these kinds of offers cause he was having a rough season. But this Joseph isn't the same we saw last season. He's having a breakout year (for his standards) while playing on a line of Stützle and Giroux, he's 1 point off his career high with 20+ games in hand and is on an extremely team-friendly deal. In what world do you expect a 4th to be even especially when there's retention involved?

Time to spend for EDM
Ceci, Brown, Janmark all cap dumps, and OTT isn't taking on that bonus payment for Brown next year.
The first and Broberg pay for the dumps
The second and Bourgault are not enough to get Chych and Tarasenko

Zero chance.
Colin White's buyout costs only 875k because he is under 26.
There is no way the Senators acquire Karlsson with that little salary considerations, let alone give up a 1st +.
Karlsson has major negative value because of his contract. The trade in the OP would be one of the most one sided trades of the cap era. The first and the prospect is on the wrong side.

with how much Karlsson is making and how long his contract is, SJ is prolly gonna need to give up assets. definitely not getting a first in the bedard draft for him

If Campbell leaves
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>budgeteam</b></div><div>It doesn't do anything for Ottawa to trade Connor Brown for Trenin. They don't really play the same role, and Trenin is a lot more limited where he can play in the lineup. He is going to get a nice raise because he has established himself as a strong physical 3rd liner who can score goals, and he is eligible for arbitration. Nashville is usually good at getting guys like that below market value because of their tax situation and team culture, but if he comes to Ottawa he is probably a 2.5+ million dollar player on a 2 year extension, maybe 3.0+. Dorion rarely buys up UFA years for those kind of luxury 3rd line type players, probably because when he has in the past, it hasn't worked out (Smith, Burrows, etc).
So it won't save the Senators much money vs paying Brown 4 million (in salary) this season. It gets them an extra year of cost control, but with an inferior player.
I suspect they might deal Connor Brown this off season in a package deal for a first line forward like Kevin Fiala. This is because they will need to dump salary to maintain their budget, give the other team value, and the Senators won't re-sign Brown at the end of his contract so it makes sense to cut bait 1 year early instead of moving out a piece that will be cost controlled for longer. I think the Senators will package Brown, the 7th overall pick, and possibly a small plus for a young established first line forward.
William Nylander is the only player who meets that criteria on either Nashville or Toronto who if made available would go for what the Senators would offer. Although, the problem with Nylander is that he has 2 years of term left. Which is an awkward point where he cannot sign an extension, but it isn't enough term to comfortably give up major assets for when there will be better options. 7th+Brown as the basis for Nylander would be more than fair if the Leafs want to trade him. They aren't likely to be offered a better package deal considering the difficulties around Nylander's term, and the fact that players with limited term when traded rarely get full value. I don't expect the Leafs to trade Nylander though, and I would expect the Senators to go after Fiala as their first choice since it has been so heavily rumored. Now that the lottery has passed, it wouldn't surprise me if all sides involved (OTT/MIN/Fiala) already know the basis of a possible deal and extension and are just waiting to see if anything better materializes for either side closer to the draft. (Since there is no point in rushing a trade until then)</div></div>
Yeah even without all the nonsense TOR part of this proposal, I don't think either team considers the Trenin for Brown trade.

White Drouin Offseason Swap What picks does OTT need to add
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>budgeteam</b></div><div>It is 3 years of term VS 1. I don't think that a draft pick will be the point of contention. Montreal isn't going to do that for whatever pick the Senators would reasonably throw in, like a 2nd.
I think the trade at the deadline was Colin White for Joel Armia, but Montreal wanted the Senators to retain cap. Mike Hoffman also makes sense. Dorion likes him as a player, and the current regime in Montreal weren't the ones to sign him. Ottawa isn't taking Gallagher (who won't waive for Ottawa anyways), Montreal probably is not trading Anderson or Dvorak for White, who are both still good players.
White will end up in Montreal, one way or another. Kent Hughes was his agent, and might believe he can turn it around. If a trade does not materialize, a buyout is cheap.
<strong>What about a 3-way trade between Ottawa, Montreal, and Arizona? </strong>
Let's assume Ottawa doesn't want to buyout Colin White because they don't want money on the books for six years. They don't want to take back one of Montreal's long term bad contracts, but Montreal wants to shed more than Drouin if they are taking on 4.75M x 3 years.
-Colin White's buyout will cost 5.25 million in real money over six seasons.
-Arizona acquires Colin White, and buys him out.
-There is an understanding Montreal will sign Colin White after the buyout.
-Montreal sends Jonathan Drouin to Ottawa (5.5 million cap and salary). They take back Michael Del Zotto (2M salary, buried cap hit a bit over 1M).
-Arizona sends Montreal Nick Ritchie, who makes 3.3 million next season against a 2.5 million dollar cap hit. This means that the Colin White buyout only costs Arizona a net of 1.95 million.
-Arizona cuts their spending next year by 2.4 million.
-Montreal and Ottawa both send Arizona 2024 2nd Round picks.
-The result? Arizona gets two second round picks, they cut cash next season at the expense of White's very modest buyout being on the books for six seasons.
-Ottawa adds Drouin as a reclamation project but also cuts cash slightly by dumping White at full salary (they weren't going to buy him out in this scenario), and Del Zotto to Montreal.
-Montreal gives up the 2024 COL 2nd Round pick to get Colin White on a cheap 1 or 2 year show me contract. White at 4.75M x 3 years is negative value, White at 1.5M x 2 years is easily worth a 2024 COL 2nd Round Pick.
-The trade is cap neutral or better for Montreal. Ritchie and Del Zotto cost about 2.5M buried, White 1.5M on the roster. They move out Drouin at 5.5M.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dutchies</b></div><div>They totally do this. Debrincat is a goal scoring stud. They rid themselves of the White contract. Brannstrom is a bust, Boucher is gonna be nothing. Formenton, Pinto and Grieg plus a top 10 protected first is well worth it. Plus it opens up future cap space for a big contract to resign the Cat. And Murphy gives them a steady top 4 for years
IT's time for OTT to start trading their cupboard of prospects</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GDubb2Shiesty</b></div><div>I agree Debrincat is a world class goal scorer and Ottawa absolutely needs to move some of their prospects, but I don't see them moving Grieg, Pinto or Boucher unless Dorion gets replaced. I would love to see Debrincat in Ottawa but Dorion is known to be stingy when it comes time to trading for big name players. I also think its too early to say Boucher will be nothing when he plays exactly like Tom Wilson and that style of player is becoming more valuable, but i aslo agree Brannstrom is looking more and more like a bust</div></div>
I wouldn't call Brannstrom a bust cause he's an everyday capable NHL player who was a mid first round pick. However he did not live up to what was expected from him after being traded for Mark Stone.
