This draft could be super surprising
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AStovetop</b></div><div>Shakir absolutely does have top pairing potential, Cagnoni also does. Then there's Thrun, and Furlong who are very solid middle pairing projected players (Thrun is already shown he has that capability).
Also i'd easily take Buium over him if they were forced to take a LHD.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caufield</b></div><div>With all due respect, there isn't anyone who has top-pair potential, and probably only Shakir and Ferraro who could be decent 2nd pair. There is no one on that left side that can carry that SJ Defense, so that's why I think SJ should just take the best D available, who imo, is Dickinson. I completely understand Lev being the pick though</div></div>
A stove top is 100% accurate sharks don’t have a bonafide #1 LD, maybe Mukhamadulin, but I agree he is more a 2nd pair and PP guy.
My issue with Dickenson is he isn’t a top pair guy either he’s a 2nd pair, D specialist with maybe a 30-35 point ceiling. And sharks really badly need a top pair 40+ point two way D if they don’t get Celebrini.
And Cagnioni has shown potential that teams missed poorly on him, but he’s a LONG way from declaring him to have top pair potential.

Agree but as posted they were the 2nd lotto winner.

Quick heads up if a team at 11 or above wins the lotto first then SJ wins the 1st OA.
So San Jose would be drafting Celebrini.
Capfriendly needs to fix this error with their lotto setup

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>kohnsharkosz</b></div><div>I wouldn't go so far as to say "no one is" . With the cap going up to projected 92m by 2025 a 4.8m hit would make someone look pure genius if he figures things out and becomes a compitent mid-6. If he doesn't, his buyout cost is quite reasonable. Someone, including his current team will see that as a worthwhile risk.</div></div>
It’s a RISK. But just like the sharks taking Granlund on to help facilitate the Karlssson trade, sometimes things work out really well with players like him. But honestly, I only see him being dealt if it’s a package with other players and he is used as a quasi-cap dump to open up cap space.

Then again we already have a Zadina. Which also goes to show the Sharks just can't resist giving a wayward 2018 1st rounder a home for awhile since they punted on Merkley.
But that M-NTC at the backend...yeeesh.</div></div>
I’ll give you if you buy him out we might give him a one to $1.5 million one or two year deal to see if a change of scenery is better but we ain’t taking on that contract in full. No one is.

Then keep them, because no bottom team is gonna wanna get a waste of a cap hit just help you guys out.
Ask for fit right in sharks were a contender for 20 freaking years before they went into this rebuild. It’s not like we’ve been a bottom dweller constantly

Draft Targets
I have a feeling Mews goes late 1st
My targets for the 2 2nds are Mews(if still there) Letourneau (huge raw C/RW) Badinka RD and Pulkkinen LD, I’m looking for decent defensive big grit guys in the 2nd with offensive upside but are 3-4 year projects. )no layer in 2nd round of this draft are close to NHL ready.

Next Year Sharks
Think te team would likely start out as….
Ehlers Granlund Zetterlund
Celebrini Couture Smith
Gushchin/Bordeleau Eklund kakko
Goodrow Sturm Faksa
Schmidt Benning/ Burroughs
Mukhamadulin Rutta
Thrun Embersom
Buy out Vlasic
Bordeleau/ Gushchin (whichever doesn’t start)
Benning/Burroughs (whichever doesn’t start)
Zadina
Cooley is in the AHL
Depending on play Smith and Celebrini could cycle to C abd Eklund back to LW, and the lines would juggle depending on chemistry and play. Still not much more than a non playoff team, but won’t be -150 on the season unless goaltending blows up (with these 3 could be a lodgicsl conclusion)

If Couture is healthy (fingers Crossed) having him center Smith and Celebrini and Mentor both on how to play C in the NHL would be smart.
Not sure I love these trades, but I don’t outright hate them so I’ll wait to hear from the rest of the commenters

I would argue their Achilles heal will be age and speed, a faster team will own this club, I would look to move Suter and Seguin not sign Bonino and try and find a little more speed to add to this lineup
Pavelski at that cap hit is fine but these playoffs he looks downright sluggish, age is finally catching up to him in the last 1/3 of this season and the playoffs

Guhle is already playing top pairing minutes putting up good defensive metrics in them. He is also comfortable on both sides.
He is the untouchable of the group especially not for a 5'10 27 year old winger</div></div>
I apologize I really didn’t think highly of him. To be fair if someone offered a top pai RD stud for Smith and took Vlasic I would consider it.

Also - Hertl is younger, and has been both better and healthier. there is no comparison to be made between these two players. if hertl required retention, couturier will require full retention.</div></div>
For you or your team maybe, I’m generalizing here tbh. Also Karlsson and Hertl we’re also traded during the cap Crunch era, this trade would be with the first significant Cap increase in a while, making it less necessary for retention. Truth be told there is no right or wrong answer until something happens.

2. Karlsson rebounded to the tune of a 100 point season, and a norris. if couturier pops 50 goals, 140 points, and wins the hart, we can have that discussion.</div></div>
Think 30 goal 70 point season would get a few teams interested with 1-1.5 mil retained

I don’t know Karlsson rebound turned him from a multiple 1st and high retention to a small retention a top 6 C and a 1st in return. Crazier things happen
