<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Windjammer</b></div><div>The Jets don't need bottom sixers if they are trading a top 6 winger. That's a poor attempt to try a devalue an asset "isn't trusted", lol. If you were really concerned about or believed that, you wouldn't want him.

You'd need to be adding a young player with term or team control in a position of need for the Jets. So RHD or 2C.</div></div>

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KPasty</b></div><div>Jets would want to fill a need on the backend with a good prospect such as Iorio. They have enough Bottom 6 guys, as much as Milano is a good player, doesn't move the needle in a deal like this imo</div></div>
"Isn't trusted" isn't part of my evaluation of him as a player but is a pretty objective statement that affects how NHL franchises evaluate players. Caps fans did the same thing with Vrana and swearing that he would get moved for a first and look how that turned out.

The bigger thing is that we go through this song and dance every single time a rental could possibly be moved. THIS one is special and unlike the other 30 rentals moved over the last 5 years. They DEFINITELY are getting multiple firsts or top prospects or young NHL ready players. DeBrincat, Hanifin, Guentzel, Lindholm just from this year alone.

Want to swap out the first for McMichael for the first? Milano for TVR/Jensen? 4th for a 2nd? Sure. But the package for a rental of 1st + mediocre-in-a-good-way roster player + little extra draft capital is a pretty set in stone formula in the NHL

Sujet: Chesley
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MNBassman</b></div><div>I kind of made my trade on the fly - what would you consider an equitable swap with Rossi and Chesley as the centerpieces?</div></div>

I think it's one of those that is very tough to judge because they both are the kind of guys that could be evaluated wildly different throughout the league. At first glance, Rossi scored .5ppg as a 22yo and has a great draft pedigree. From my read on it though, MIN fans weren't that happy with him/don't think he'll fit in with their salary structure? He did play a ton with Kaprizov and Boldy so I can understand wanting more from whoever is in that spot. Injury/health history is obviously a concern too but at the same time he played all 82 this year?

I think Caps would value Chesley as right around where they took him -- late first or early second. He's not a scorer, but has been incredibly solid through two years of NCAA and had a good WJC where he was heavily relied on. Basically developed at exactly the pace and the ways you would hope. Not lagging behind, but not blowing expectations away either.

The "value" here of I would say ~32oa (Chesley) + ~55oa (VGK 2nd) + ~50oa (Caps 2nd, discounted one year) is sneakily a pretty sizable package, but at the same time it is a quantity over real quality type offer. I would also say that Rossi is one of the guys I would be willing to move 17oa for in this draft, and that 17oa + Chesley makes more sense for MIN. I would do either and I would think that the Caps' FO would as well, but you never know.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>All_Knowing</b></div><div>1. Agreed - I expect the retool to continue and GMBM pushes to compete. I do think he finds a way to get a top 6 forward and a top 4 defender. He has too much pressure not to after saying that is his goal the last 2 seasons.

2. Marner would be my #1. TOR is a toxic place to play, and I think Marner thrives wherever he goes next. My question is - what would a trade for him look like? McM, Jensen, 2024 1st and more?

3. Agreed with qc14 - Ovi is 38 years old...that is OLD! Hard to lead a team when he is 38 and playing with average players. Plus, not having a true 1c doesn't help. The Caps relied on him to score, and when he did, the Caps usually won. When he didn't, the Caps would score 1-2 goals (if that) and struggle. Goes back to the top 6 forward - if you can get 1-2 of those players, that would help immensely.

4. Oshie said he'd like to play next year, but would need a gurantee his back can be fixed. I personally would like him to retire and I hope GMBM is more forceful about the situation. Having Backy "retire" a handful of games into the season really hurt the Caps (both in terms of a top center retiring and having all that cap space unused).

5. Pesce comes to mind as well for that RHD. Tanev would be another (cheaper option). What would a contract look for Pesce?</div></div>

I honestly have no idea what a Marner to WSH trade looks like mostly because I don't know what type of package TOR would be looking for. If they want a 1-1 swap a la Subban/Weber or Hall/Larsson I don't think we have the piece they would want except maybe Wilson. I think we would have to sell them on being a good middle ground of breaking up his cap into a couple solid players while also giving back some pretty good futures. I would pitch either McMichael+Jensen/TVR+Lindgren+17oa (better, cheap goalie) or Wilson+Kuemper+17oa(better forward, still established goalie but maybe not the steal Lindgren is).

I like Pesce, Skjei, and Tanev the most on D. This is a sneaky good UFA class for them
