I like Pesce but he is over valued on this board</div></div>
It is ridulous what people on here rate Pesce. At best Pesce is worth what Muzzin cost.... but thats even a stretch considering Pesce is coming off a major surgery/ injury

Trade johnsson and dermott for draft picks like a 2nd and 3rd rounder then sign brodie

Marner Traded
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tkecanuck341</b></div><div>In a Marner for Ekblad swap, I think the 1st goes the other direction. Ekblad plays the more desirable position and doesn't have an albatross contract.</div></div>
If a 23 year old who is a 90+ point player has an albatross contract, what would you call Kopitar and Dought's contract? Hilarious that Marner has the worst contract in the league and yet is an all-star and hasn't even hit his prime. I suppose under paying guys like Marner during their prime years and then overpaying them in their twightlight like LA does is the way to go.

Big 4 Staying one more year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lenny7</b></div><div>Tell me more about how "If you want to win you sign a fair deal at market value"? McDavid-hasn't won. I'm pretty confident that he hasn't even made it out of the first round? Tavares-hasn't won. Also hasn't had much success in the playoffs. Eichel, same. Aho, same. Rantanen, same, though this year could be the one.
I don't know, I could be completely wrong, but long-term, what does "hurting the team" have to do with someone being paid what they think they're value is? If my boss comes in to talk about renewing my contract, why would I ever consider taking a discount without asking for the moon first?
Consider the fact that these guys are play for the first three years of their careers at a fraction of their actual value, and then spend the next 3-4 years having their contracts restricted by arbitration. They're tied to one team unless that team decides to trade them to another. Why the heck would they be overly concerned about "hurting the team"? Because they *might* have a shot to win? Screw that. If I'm Matthews, Marner, Tavares or Nylander, the amount that I'm paid has absolutely nothing to do with the contract I've signed. All 4 of these guys have performed extremely well since they were signed.
If there's anyone to blame, it's the group at the top who says "Sign here".</div></div>
look at boston. they are a great example. Oilers went to the WCF i believe. look at thw Hawks when they won their cups.... players got paid after they won.. there actually a lot of examples.. players should get paid after they win ... makes the most sense.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Capitalfail67</b></div><div>why do leaf fans only blame Mitch? you can argue hes better than matthews...he def just as good as matthews. Matthews was just as selfish why no hate towards him?? baffling</div></div>
Leafs fans don't always blame mitch. Only the fans who don't make a lot of sense. He's not better than Matthews and that's not even an argument. He's overpaid a bit and a fantastic playmaker. Probably the best playmaker in the league. As for the overpay, Oh well, every GM has a **** contract except the Leafs now. If our **** contract is traded for a slightly overpaid playmaker I'll take it. That's not the issue with the Leafs. The problem with the Leafs is the Young guys need to realise that playing without structure and by the seat of your pants doesn't work in the NHL. That's a Youth problem. Listen to the coach, learn the game he's teaching and play the game he teaches you and the wins will happen.

Pietrangelo and Thornton
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>kous</b></div><div>There is nothing wrong with Anderson contract with that said the Wings don't make that deal</div></div>
The article that named Andersson as a player on the trade block (from James Mirtle of the Athletic) made fairly clear that they just want to clear his cap (not his salary, which is only $1 million). The article says,
<em>"The Leafs starting goaltender can apparently be had for a “useful” but low-cost asset in what would largely be a cap-clearing trade. Andersen could be a really intriguing option for a team without a lot of cash, as he has only $1 million in salary remaining due to a large signing bonus the Leafs have already paid. I wonder if the Oilers might be a fit given they want to overhaul their goaltending situation, although they’d have to find a way to make Andersen’s cap hit work."</em>

20-21 Leafs weaponize the cap
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>kous</b></div><div>Those draft picks turn into real players. Also I mentioned that even if it did not include the retention of salary.</div></div>
It's still throwing darts at a dart board, and by pick 15 in a normal draft your 20 feet away from the board, which makes it much harder to get a bullseye. Think most owners would want a safer bet if they are spending millions of dollars, 20 teams in the league struggle to break even in a good year, let alone what's happening in the world now.
As far as sign and trades similar to the NBA (not big NBA fan, but I think this is what you are getting at). They don't make a lot of sense in the NHL as the typical 27-30 UFA likely is not getting the 8th year anyways (which is the only advantage to signing with the original team). It has been pretty rare for a high enough profile 25/26 yo to hit UFA and be allowed to walk away from their team.

Likely outcome
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Snipshow4416</b></div><div>I agree but rantanen is also waiting for marner to set a floor for him it’s a crazy circus. Marner isn’t even the best rfa available</div></div>
He's the third best forward now and was (IMHO) the fourth entering the offseason.
Point
Rantanen
Aho
Marner
Then Tkachuk, Meir, and Connor in some sort of order
And that doesn't include Laine because he is so hard to place. Prior to this last season he looked like he could be this generations goal scoring machine, putting up ludicrous goal totals. Then he hit a ****ing wall in December. I don't even know how to place him.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Laudan</b></div><div>You werent really good at math, its obvious.....</div></div>
Nope, the education at schools and universities in the US is clearly behind Canada. :laugh
So let's see it...show me a armchair with Marner at $10.5M, Kap and Johnsson both at $4.2M and I'll show you a team that is worse, includes unrealistic trades (most of the Leafs armchairs), not understanding LITR or a combination of any of those.
You should really learn how to interact on a forum without getting emotional and insulting people...as evidence on your run in with me last week and others. Excuse my response to your behavior if you're a teenager though.
