<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NHLfan10506</b></div><div>Two years ago, the Vezina trophy winner was traded for a guy who retied two months later. Different rules apply to goalie trades!!

But the amount of goalies that were traded alone for a 1st (or top prospect) in cap era is very limited....

2021 Kuemper (1 year) - 1st, cond pick, Timmins
2020 Murray (RFA) - 2nd, Gruden
2016 Andersen (RFA) - 1st, 2nd
2015 Jones (RFA) - 1st, Kuraly
2015 Lehner (2 years) - 1st (with Legwand)
2015 Talbot (1 year) - 2nd, 3rd, 7th
2013 Schneider (2 years) - 1st
2012 Bobrovsky (1 year) - 2nd, 4th, 4th
2011 Varlamov (RFA) - 1st, 2nd
2011 Bryzgalov (rights) - 3rd, 3rd
2010 Halak (RFA) - for a top-25 prospect, top-100 prospect (Lars Eller, Ian Schultz)
2007 Toskala (1 year) - 1st, 2nd, 4th (with Mark Bell)
2007 Vokoun (4 years) - 1st, 2nd, 2nd
2007 Toivonen (ELC) - Soderberg
2006 Raycroft (RFA) - for top goalie prospect
2006 Cloutier (1 year) - 2nd, 3rd
2006 Luongo (RFA) - Bertuzzi, Allen, Auld

....none were traded for a top-line forward as well.

There is just no applicable comp for this sort of trade.</div></div>

I'm not arguing that the trade is lopsided in Nashville's favor, but the Vezina trophy winner you're referring to that was traded was making $7 million per year on a cap strapped team and was in his late 30s. It's not really a fair comparison in my opinion.

Kuemper would be a better comparable, but he was older with one year remaining and probably had no interest in re-signing in Arizona.
