Realistic and most likely scenario.

Oh I know. I'm just very much in the "he'll be good again" camp. But I also went to Wisconsin and always root hard for the NHL Badgers. So I might be a tad biased on this one. Time will tell!

My only critique is potentially buying out Smith. He’s a good player who couldn’t get out of his head last year. And clearly AVs system wasn’t working but the guy never made an adjustment. If Smith can return to his old self, his contract will look great with the ever-rising cap.

That said the rangers should not sign all three of Hayes, Namestnikov, and Spooner. I’d love it if they could ship Vlad for an NHL ready defenseman instead of one of the Flames’ prospects. The rangers can’t just be a team of teenagers.

2019 playoff berth - trades w/ BUF, DAL
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Shibbal18</b></div><div>Well it's not so look elsewhere</div></div>
Lias Andersen?! No chance dude. You’re way overvaluing ROR. His contract is nuts. He’s going to be making 7.5 mil at ages 31,32,33 and hasn’t topped 64 points ever. Yes that’s probably a product of being on the aves and sabers but still. Don’t be silly with this. What team will pay as much as you’re asking for him? Maybe Edmonton cuz their GM is an idiot.

Trades with....Calgary and Montreal
I think I hate the trade with Montreal. Why would the Rangers do that? Nix that and sign Kovulchuk and you've got yourself a squad here (if it works with the cap).

2019 playoff berth - trades w/ BUF, DAL
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>xxToothxx</b></div><div>Honestly until ROR finds his "love for tge game" again... hes a down grade from the up coming Hayes.
I was not a fan of Hayes, before last season. But he constantly lined up vs #1 Centres all season .
By end of he was a top Centre...</div></div>
Right - Hayes scored tough goals, and played against the opponent's best night in and night out. I still think Hayes is a 2C at best, but he's going to command over $5 mil AAV. ROR's contract, $7.5 mil AAV until he's 33 years old, is less than ideal. I think my original package is more than enough for him, and with the Rangers' plethora of picks I could see them throwing in another to sweeten the pot. I also don't think Buffalo retaining $1 million a year is that ridiculous if they receive a B level prospect and a few picks plus Hayes. ROR is a stud though, and I think on a good team he easily eclipses 70 points. Put him on a line with Kovulchuk and :hearteyes

2019 playoff berth - trades w/ BUF, DAL
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Shibbal18</b></div><div>It’s going to take a lot more. The Sabres, to start, are not retaining. They are moving him, if they move him at all, for pieces that will improve the team now. Hayes is a downgrade, Sabres have no room or use for Day, and that’s a very late first and the Sabres pick only 5 picks later.</div></div>
So what would be your counter offer then, with no retained money, if he goes to NYR?

Does kicking in a 2nd or 3rd rounder as well get it done?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Stan_Bowman</b></div><div>Forgive me for not knowing the Rangers prospect pipeline/Roster very well... but who are you trading us and why do they justify a second and third rounder?</div></div>
Jesper Fast has been a bottom 6 forward on the Rangers for a few years. Steps up in the playoffs at times as well. Boo is a bottom six center - had a few stints in the NHL with the club this year but is still an AHL guy. I like both guys a lot, for what it's worth. However I don't see how this trade makes any sense, when there are plenty of UFAs that could fill these kinds of roles for the hawks. I'm sure some of your AHLers are also just as good as Boo.

The Rangers can be a *good* team next year if Shatty's rebuilt knee returns him to the 60+ point player we know he can be, and if Brendan Smith remembers how to be a second pair defenseman. They will not, and should not, trade either one of them.

I missed that. Either way the contracts are still too low, especially for Skjei.

Henrik isn't going anywhere. He's stated multiple times that he wants to stay with the team and be apart of the rebuild. That plus a NMC ensures he remains a Ranger.

No chance Skjei signs for $2.5 mil/per. Otherwise not bad. Would rather not trade Kreider though.

If you think the Rangers wouldn't match those RFA contracts, you're nuts. No chance you get any of those three guys on those contracts.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hedman77</b></div><div>Certainly could get close to playoffs but I don't think the defense is good enough.
My favorite thing about NYR's structure is their young depth on offense. I think they'll be great for the team in a few years.</div></div>
Agreed on the young o-depth. With AV gone, I hope that these young kids, DeAngelo included, will have a little longer of a leash around their neck and much more room to grow. Buch could score 35+ if that top line clicks as we saw it click here and there this year (assuming Kreids and Zib can stay healthy for a full 82 games, which is a huge assumption). For a team that just tore it all down, I'm feeling pretty good about the short and long term health of the squad, assuming Gorton hires the right guy to steer the ship.

New Look After the Offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Barathrum_Obama</b></div><div>I absolutely hate that trade from NYR side</div></div>
Agreed. I don't see how we keep Hayes, Spooner, and Namestnikov, but I don't want Myers to be the solution to our D problem. If we trade for a Jets dman, it better be Trouba. Also, if we're lucky enough to get Hughes at #9, he shouldn't and won't leave UMich as a rising sophomore with all of our potential young Dmen to fill out the second and third pairings. That Michigan team is going to be great next year in a very good Big Ten division and I'd like to see him at least play two more season in the NCAA instead of going to Hartford.
