Shestyerkin gave up 7 goals in his first game in NA in the traverse city tournament.
Sorokin also looks just as good as shestyerkin in Byron bader model.

I like it from COL perspective in a vacuum. But with injuries to Toews and Johnson COL isn’t trading Graves. The Jost Cizikas trade off is a lot closer than people think. <a href="/users/Anus_McLeod" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@Anus_McLeod</a> correctly pointed out Jost has been awesome in the bottom 6 defensively and on the pk and makes peanuts. I think on the surface it looks super appealing to BOTH teams, but creates holes for each team.
Great idea and very creative!!!! Great post!

Sorokin interests me for sure. If both Johnson and Toews come back healthy then Graves is on the table. They can't trade him now though with those guys in doubt.
Interesting proposal though!</div></div>
How could Colorado do anything but accept this? It's like the Varlamov trade but instaed of giving up the 11th overall pick we'd only be giving up a 4th liner and a 5/6 Dman for a future starting goalie, AND we'd be getting one of the leagues best defensive C's to fill the 3C spot and create an elite shutdown line with Nichuskin+1. No brainer for Colorado. I'd even throw in an extra pick or prospect to get 'er done.
Fwiw I think Jost would be excellent in Trotz's NYI team. His defensive instincts are top notch.

Even if you feel that way about those players doesn't mean that their value tanks -- Sorokin has a lot of value right now (and it's only 2 games, as you said). Cizikas could have a lot of value to a contender if retained. If you're really set on trading those guys, I think you can do better.

Reasonable Offseason
Overall, would rather see NJD bring quality young players back and fewer picks. Ideally, they would prioritize the following at TDL and over off-season.
1. A young, top pairing LHD (or prospect)
2. Another top-six (or at least middle-six) winger/finisher.
3. A back-up 1b type goalie.
4. A veteran, two-way, bottom-six center
5. A puck-moving RHD for bottom pair.
#1 will be very hard at deadline (or anytime) to fill. But I feel like they could fill at last two of these holes at deadline.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Gofnut999</b></div><div>We’ll just buyout Moore or push him onto Seattle. 4 deep on LD with Lauzon, Grizz, Zboril, Urho. No need for Butcher.</div></div>
Butcher to Bruins made a lot of sense on paper before season (after Krug walked), but Lauzon and Zboril appear to have been playing well. Butcher is probably still an upgrade, but doubt its worth a 1st from their side.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Zmach</b></div><div>Edmonton isn’t going to trade pool party and a second rounder for a mediocre LW. They are going to sign a 60 point winger in free agency. They also need a left shot not a right.</div></div>
First, Gusev plays left wing (right shot LW...like the opposite of Kuch). And few call him mediocre. Second, Puljujarvi has 0 goals and 2 secondary assists while playing on McDavid's line. I don't think NJD would be trading anything for him at this point.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>goowy</b></div><div>You are not asking too much for Palmerie if an extension is included. Could probably get more out of Isles if an extension is in place. Maybe a better prospect (Bellows). </div></div>
Agree - Palmieri to NYI would likely be for Bellows and pick or for Wahlstrom. I don't think Bode Wilde gets it done from NJD perspective.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>goowy</b></div><div>Zajac is gets you a second rounder at best. I do think Sakic will be looking bottom six guys at the deadline.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Richard88</b></div><div>A 1st for Zajac seems kinda high considering that a few of Bonino, Staal, Cizikas, Tierney, Wennberg, and Haula will also be available.

A second-rounder seemed about right to me...but Colorado traded their next two for Toews. But they have plenty of prospects to deal. Beaucage, Barron, Newhook, Annunen, Kaut, etc. So maybe better fit in one-for-one prospect for veteran. And NJD would have to eat salary.

I think they would ask for a lot though. A 1st, Wahlstrom would be the start I think

Trade with Sharks
Hmm. Yeah similar sentiment to <a href="/users/yikes" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@yikes</a>
Good start with the 1st. Ho-Sang isn’t a major piece but why not. Bailey is...underwhelming though. I get that the isles can’t take on much cap but I don’t think Bailey has much positive value anymore. At least he doesn’t to the Sharks.

Trade with Sharks
Since I don't LOVE Bailey Id like to see a prospect (maybe bellows or someone who could use a new team) as well (prospect for Bailey being taken on plus part of the first "value" then the first and Ho-Sang for Labanc). Id prefer to see just youth assets/ picks in a Labanc trade tho.
Not a bad idea tho if the Sharks are selling.

Just paying up no LTIR
Unless this an “all or nothing win next year”kind of roster, I’d avoid any UFA that wants more than 1m aav. No way we could keep Beauvillier, Pelech and Sorokin around next year if we also have Dadanov and Parise on the books. Each or Pelech, Beauvillier and Sorokin will want and likely deserve at least 3m aav raises off what they currently make. I say we take our chances with Wahlstrom, sign Grabner to play on the 3rd line and try to move Ladd to Seattle in the expansion draft.

RNH for Leddy
Oilers biggest need is forwards. After Draisaitl and McDavid, Nuge is the only guy over 40 pts. And if we lose Chaisson, that drops down to 25.
We have a ridiculous number of LHD. Two of which are overpaid for what they bring (Russell and Sekera). Going forward, the plan is Nurse and Klefbom as the two top LHD. I get Leddy can play both sides (I think), but again, Nuge is the 3rd most important player on our team. This trade doesn’t even come close

Weird Idea
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>goowy</b></div><div>I understand your desire for Varlamov (Sorokin) and this deal makes sense for the Isles. Would probably have to add a 2nd rounder or Aho/Pelech going to COL. Yes, this would give COL an upgrade going into this years playoffs, but.....then they would have two goalies signed next year, mind you for reasonable dollars. I think they want to go after a big name in net this offseason (bobrovsky, quick, Talbot), and they would not be able to with two signed goalies for next year.
Also, I'm not sure NYI wants to go into the offseason with two UFA goalies, although, I think Lehner will resign.</div></div>
That all makes sense to me. And adding Pelech to the trade might be attractive to Colorado given the fact that Colorado has a bit of an anemic defense (at least in my opinion).
I could also see Colorado jettisoning Grubauer during the offseason to make room for that big name goalie you mention. Grubauer has had a bad season with Colorado so far, but he's had more even good seasons in the past and you could argue he just needs a change of scenery/a better defense in front of him. So I think there's still something to this idea.
But I think you're right. As confident as I am that Lehner will be here next year, there's waaay too much risk in having two UFA goalies.

I never know if this team is good enough to invest in or not
I don’t see the need for the Isles to give up assets for a RHD this year. Pulock/Boychuk/Mayfield have been solid all year and Dobson and Wilde are in the pipeline. Isles need forward help if anything. It doesn’t seem like ROR is available but Schenn could be a nice pickup and obviously inquire as to if Tarasenko is available.
I really don’t see St Louis blowing up the roster either, if they had even mediocre goaltending they’d be a playoff team and a great coach (Queenville) is available this offseason.
Boyle from the Devils could be a nice pickup and that is probably a reasonable trade
