This roster may not make the playoffs, but the addition of Eichel will buy goodwill with the fan base. Cap space not an issue now, but potentially. Need to resign Tkachuk for $8MM to $9MM over 7 to 9 years, if Bread has a repeat season he's in the $4MM to $5MM range, Wade would be in that bridge deal territory of $2MM to $3MM, and the defense will have salary inflation either with re-signings, or FA signings.
As a Flames fan since day 1, we just desperatly need a #1 centre, at almost any cost. Feaster tried to trade for MacKinnon with our 3 1st rounders...he obviously should have tried harder. Look at the result.
I feel with MT and Eichel complemented by Lindholm and Bread, perhaps a couple of the younger crew, there's a revamped and more effective core in 22/23 and into the future. Defense needs some amount of work which will be easier if Hanifin becomes a true #1 defenseman, which I believe he can and is worth waiting for.

Getting a big name and publicity
Agree...if they swapped Wahlstrom for Komarev I'd do the deal now (as a Flames fan). However from an NY perspective its a true mortgaging and win now transaction...where I would say no dice.

A contract year RFA + UFA for a very young, franchise player under a friendly contract? Not to mention the brother being on the same roster...
Oh they would...no, they'd have to!
Shoot, even as is, I'm not sure I'd do this as a Flames GM.

Hall
I think the compensation is a about right.
I'd suggest some contingency around the draft pick package as to whether Hall resigns with the Flames long term.
That said, if I'm NJ, do I view this as a bucket of spare parts? In my mind they'd say its only Bennett and a 1st rounder that have any reliable (albeit future) upside.
The real assets with good contracts on Calgary's roster are obvious...JG, Monahan, Tkachuk, Lindholm, Andersson, and Hanifin. Retaining those bodies and getting Hall would be a win.

If Calgary moved out 2 top 4 dmen, starting Stone, adding Reilly, and relying on OK is too risky. I'd look to add another depth piece to help insure the big investment made up front.

They'd need another NHL defenseman for depth IMO. Fratenberg, or a comparable would do.

I'm a Flames fan so somewhat unbiased. For Edmonton this is a short term franchise altering move that doesn't come for free. Holland would love cap relief for the re-tool. For Ottawa, they are one of the only teams with cheap promise/RFA talent able to take on 2 more crap contracts besides Ryan's. It serves as a bridge (Brodie/Sekera) for their very young blueline to be sheltered.

Flames for it
I wouldn't mortgage the future this year. Let NSH and WPG blow their wads. Wait until next year to make the run.
Tweaks OK, but this will hurt the Flames organization for years.

New year New Flame
Why give away Jankowski?
I think Hannifin's value will increase significantly as he gets into his mid-20's. Let him develop, maybe deal him then. If I were to trade a dman now or in the coming off season, it would be Brodie. Even then, tough decision.
Unfortunatly for us Flames fan, the Neal signing will be a drag foir years to come. I suspect he gets bought out after yr 3, perhaps that was the plan from the start?!

CLB trade
As a Flames fan, this would be fantastic. But from CLB's perspective, they just got 2 spare parts (Smith and Czarnik), one under performing winger in Neal who's in the 1st year of 5 year contract (years 4 and 5 will be bought out IMO), an unproven forward in Dube, and a promissing young 5/6 defensmen in Andersson.
To even up, drop the 2021 first round pick and add 2019 first round, drop Neal. Might work...
Regardless, this assumes CLB is a seller which Im not sure they are...yet? They're 6th in a very tight eastern race.
In order to take on Martinez, and assuming the CLB proposal falls thru, more salary needs to be dumped. Can't afford the RFAs next year without.

Stone
csisk, you beat me to it. I am a Flames fan and was thinking the same thing...Valimaki instead of OK. I wouldn't do both young d-men. MAYBE Kylington an Dube. That would hurt but...
All that said, the Flames would still have trouble re-signing Tkachuk, Bennett, Mark Stone, and Rittich next year (plus filling out the balance of the roster). If the Flames spend this much draft capital and youth on Mark Stone there needs to be a commitment to re-sign. Guess they'd need to jettison Michael Stone's contract somewhere. Maybe move Brodie IF a) they win the cup or b) R Andersson and/or the other young d-men not included in this proposed transaction show well in the playoff run.
Bottom line - I think a transaction like this puts the Flames as the western conference favorite (not league, but close). It has the added benefit of keeping Stone away from the Jets.

Calgary go all IN
Tatar is not a big enough upgrade over Frolik to giveaway 2 younger and affordable players - potentially a 2nd line centre with size and a 3-4 offensive defensman. Frolik has a better contract as well.
Schlem-cat...been there, done that. Wouldn't crack the top 6 as-is. He's just a spare part.
Definite NO from me (as a Flames fan).
