Change up
The team that might get the most use out of Olofsson is probably the Islanders. They need PP help and they play a slower game. Olofsson just can’t skate with Peterka and Cozens.

how i would make lines
unnecessary deep dive coming. it's mainly because of greenway in terms of numbers coupled with the fact that olofsson is 5 on 5 poison. not in a bad way but they traded for him to play on the 4th line this season, but then they signed back girgensons, okposo and jost. they were preparing to not have them all back and probably go with greenway/krebs/okposo-rousek on the 4th line. now greenway has to play somewhere in the top 9 and benson has played his way on the team.

i think johnson should be given a look in the nhl. he needs to learn to be a 3rd pair nhl defenseman who can kill penalties. he can do that in rochester but i think he needs to get any time they were planning to give stillman or bryson. if bryson clears waivers, maybe try him at forward in rochester.

There’s cap room for this and a big swing if we trade Olofsson. I’d even be good with a higher salary and a one year deal. I think this is move the Sabres should absolutely do.

That’s a good trade for Buffalo right now but that’s a lot of salary to carry for a few years for a bottom 6 forward, albeit a really good one. We have a few prospects who can claim that spot starting next season that are a lot cheaper and under team control. Plus he is owed more actually money in the last three years. Pegula won’t like that.

Sabres Next Year
I’ll nitpick some. I think we are going to roll out 4 scoring lines next season but Greenway is going to play on the 4th lines unless he’s abjectly awful this year. Peterka and Cozens have to play together. They’re nightmares for teams off the rush starting this season. Quinn can play anywhere. If the top 6 is going to be shuffled, I think Skinner-Mittelstadt-Tuch deserve some run together. They were great to end last season. Not good, great. And then you have to defend a Thompson line separate from that, say Kulich-Thompson-Quinn. Then you go Peterka-Cozens-Savoie. And you can have a 4th line and 13th forward of Benson/Greenway-Krebs-Rosen/Rousek. That’s a 4th line that can play defense and still score. Bottom line, we’re scary. Plus, we still have plenty of assets to trade to for a defenseman, say a certain defenseman who might play for a team from Alberta that most likely will be in rebuild mode because they are going to lose a lot of free agents after this season.

i'm wondering if they keep the lines at the end of last year together to start. i know cozens and thompson should be playing center but that's a tough top 6 to deal with, just as it was at the end of last year even though thompson was banged up. the peterka-krebs-x line gets shielded a little more and can be a line that has more o zone starts with the 4th line with more defensive responsibilities.

skinner turned 31 not that long ago and based on his play, the next two seasons should be productive at the very least. he's also been reliable in terms of games played in his career. his agility makes him tough to square up in the offensive zone. he doesn't have a major injury history, there's a chance he's still productive through the end of the contract. plus if the cap increases are close to the projections, his number is much less onerous in the final two seasons. i think our goaltending is fine, but i would like to see if calgary starts slow whether they'll embrace a full rebuild and maybe rasmus andersson becomes available to round our the top 4 for the foreseeable future.

We won’t trade Ostlund bc he’s a young cost controlled center,

No offense, just doesn’t make sense to me</div></div>
Krebs is due for a raise and so is Mittelstadt. And Krebs is already a useful player, which I think Calgary wants more than a prospect. Plus, if Kulich's ELC slides again, you could have Kulich, Ostlund, and Savoie at 3 years for under a million each. You can replace Krebs with them and spend the 3-4 million he would cost to help keep Mittelstadt and extend Quinn and Peterka. And as always with Calgary, if I'm going to send significant assets to them, I'd rather add and make a play for Andersson as I have personally done about 8 times on this site.

I don’t want to give up Ostlund for one year of Hanifin. If we get a reasonable extension in place, maybe. I think we’re going to end up trading Krebs in a one year rental trade for Hellebuyck. I feel like Krebs, UPL, and a 2nd or a prospect like Kisakov is the best Winnipeg is going to do without an extension in place for him. And Mittelstadt might command more money than Buffalo can go after next season. So, that means Ostlund and Walhberg become even more important pieces as young, cost controlled centers in a couple of years on what should be a cup contender.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BUFF36</b></div><div>I could see that with Kulich, kinda why I didn't trade Olofsson. Rochester will have some choices to make to, they have a lot of forwards signed.
To me it depends on how Clifton handles more ice time and can Johnson stay healthy and of course the goaltending.
A lot went right for the Sabres last year, having added depth will help. Still not impressed with what Adams did so far this off-season. I will say 95pts. Because of some growth from the youngins.</div></div>
i'm just all in on levi. he was coming in after not having played, acclimated to NHL shooters, and nearly got us a playoff spot. he just has an elite skill set, elite anticipation, and already showed elite shootout ability. a full offseason where he prepares to be the #1 and he's going to be in the vezina mix. UPL will also get the chance to prepare to be the #2 where he plays 30 games, which he did last year when he was 17-11-4. when you have a team that scores like we do and takes chances, the save percentage and GAA have to be viewed differently. like when freddy andersen was in toronto. he played great but didn't have great numbers for that reason. he went to a more defensive team like carolina and his numbers skyrocketed. for us, there are a lot of games like the detroit one from last season. a really good goalie performance may be putting the clamps on in the shootout on 4-4, 5-5, or 6-6 games sometimes. levi can do that for 50-55 games and UPL can do it for 25-30. i think levi goes 34-12-4 and UPL is similar to last season. that's near 110 points.

arizona doesn't do this trade. they are thin on the blue line but moser and durzi are their top right shot D. they may believe in the potential in jokiharju but a 2nd round pick is a significant asset for them as a rebuilding team, even if it's in the future. and i can envision jokiharju being a solid 3rd pair D for us. i can also envision more up and down play and maybe we look to move him at the deadline if we feel ryan johnson can step into a role next season.

It’s going to be Levi and UPL. Comrie will be the odd man out. I really think Kulich plays in Rochester except for the amount of games they can call him up without burning a year of his deal. His ELC can slide one more time. Having him for three full years on the big club at his ELC will be huge no matter how much the cap goes up. And we still have Rousek, Biro, and Murray as call ups. Even Weissbach played well enough to get a shot. Rochester is loaded again and should compete for the Calder Cup. I believe Levi’s elite level play is not an accident and we’re better defensively. Clifton won’t have to join the rush and can focus on that side of the ice. I think as long as we start well with Quinn on the IR, we’ll be a 110 point team and win the division.

of course, but vegas was a perpetual playoff team whose 1st rounder was mostly in the high 20s. this is 13 in a really good draft. there's a legit top line/pair player to be had at 13.

Olofsson and 13 OA is plenty of an offer for Pesce. Your trade is close to the return we got for Eichel.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>lowblocksniper</b></div><div>I read your description for the Olofsson trade, it makes no sense
Arizona has a ton of cap space Olofsson's cap hit wouldn't make them flinch
You'd also get a little more for him, probably a 2nd and 4th</div></div>
arizona's owners are that cheap. if they can save a million dollars, they'll do it. and olofsson is 5 on 5 poison. we played our best hockey without him. he scored in bunches and can do that with a playmaking center like he had with mittelstadt, but he's not a part of our future and i want to see peterka in his PP spot and kulich to play in the NHL if he's ready. and i believe he is ready. we once got skinner for a 2nd, a 5th, and a low level prospect. and he's not as good as skinner.
