Karlsson to Vegas
I really don’t understand why everyone keeps thinking an EK trade makes sense at this point for us. Losing Theodore, Tuch, Miller, etc. for EK and Ryan doesn’t make our team any better. I’m seriously tired of these trades when there are plenty of other trades that could be made to actually improve our chances of competing. I don’t mean to be negative toward the poster or the value, it’s just that I’m tired of people trying this scenario.

B’s tried to trade Spooner for 2 years. Best offer they got was a 2nd. He’s soft and does not play D.
Hague is 19, 6 foot 6 d man that put up 35 goals 78 pts 105 pims in jrs last year. Him and a 1st for Hayes who is solid but not a difference maker is pretty steep. It’s not a massive overpay. But it’s the type of move you make if you are going for it so i don’t dislike it.</div></div>
Understandable, in reality we know none of the teams in the league would make any of the trades on this site but I’d be interested in this happening none the less. I’ve seen Hague at rookie camp and he’s looks really good, almost as good if not better than Brännström, but you never really know how a prospect can pan out. Thanks!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>Amen. And let me acquaint you with Larry's Theory: When your first pick in a draft is in the second half of the second round or lower, find a category to pick the guy who's at the top of that list instead of trying to pick the next guy in your order of picks. (Two teams were in this position in 2018.) Case in point: picks #61 and #62 this year. McPhee picks the 17th or 29th or 42nd-rated LW and hopes all the other teams missed him. Edmonton then picks the #1-rated North American goaltender. Which one do YOU think we're more likely to see in the NHL 5 years from now? I like George, but, really.</div></div>
Yeah, I’m slightly worried he’s gonna cause problems in the long term like he did in Washington. Sure he drafted the Ovi and the rest of their core, but he made terrible trades and signings. A couple years after he leaves, they reap the reward of his work by beating his current team the the SCF lol.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>I hate to see Bellemare and Engelland take pay cuts, but that's just emotional. Glad to see you noted the value of acquiring Dzingel. We should do this TODAY.
Slight overpay to the Rangers but so what? It's the Cup.
Canucks accept for the two draft picks.
Arizona accepts.
Ottawa has no choice.</div></div>
Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, Engelland said he wants to retire here since he lives here already and that wage drop is already in his contract. Not to mention we can’t ignore the fact he’s 36, sadly, and waiting to get repacked by Brännström when he retires. Belle is crucial to our penalty kill and is a team legend already so his pay cut is minimal and we could even make it work without the pay cut. The Rangers overpay I’m okay with because add those two players would be MASSIVE for our chances to compete. Tanev is great depth even though I feel it’s an over pay for an aging, expiring dman. Arizona could really use Eakin as a mentor for their youth and push for the playoffs with that move, even at the deadline like Gofnut said. For Ottawa I think Tatar and Holden would be great because if they go full rebuild they could use them to reach the cap floor, while Dzingel fits perfectly into our team. The second is maybe too much so I’d change it to a 3rd. Overall, I’d love this as a scenario this season.

Zona - ehh - if it’s a deadline deal and thay are in the hunt for the playoffs....maybe...otherwise no.
I ilke the team you end up with though.</div></div>
Thanks for the feedback! I’d like to ask though, I’m ok with an overlay to he Rangers but what do you think would make the Canucks and Sens trades work? I thought the Canucks trade was actually an overpay for an aging, expiring, and expensive defenseman where they get a good, youngish depth dman and a 2nd/3rd. For Ottawa they get, while yes they are cap dumps, a great youngish Top6 winger that could use another change in scenery and an ok dman to reach the cap floor in a scenario where they clean house and we get a great young forward to fill a gap in our lineup and a 2nd to recoup some value that we gave up for Tatar. Just wondering, thanks!

So how'd we miss out on Riley Nash, Greg Pateryn and Dylan Demelo, all of whom I signed to earlier Las Vegas teams for the right money?!?</div></div>
I would’ve loved those signings, it’s too bad McPhee likes overpaying the wrong players (Reaves/Holden) and not fill holes in the team like Nash and the Dmen would. Thanks btw!

trades
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>The problem with your two big trades is that they create a cap problem for next year. First, you're a man short on the roster (Ryan Carpenter, who's only a $675k hit) so you've only got about $2.7M in space coming out of this year. Assuming you don't re-sign Bellemare, Engelland retires and an $82M cap next year, you've got roughly $8.2M to spend to re-up Karlsson, Tuch, Hayes and Schmidt plus get two more players to replace the departures. And don't forget that Fleury has a $1.25M raise coming. Bottom line: I don't think that less than $6M is going to be enough for your four free agents.</div></div>
First off, I’d like to say that I wouldn’t be opposed to making this trade. While yes, the cap is something we have to deal with it’s not as bad as it seems. First off, I’m pretty sure Theodore is going to get RFA’d to hell so that we can sign him for around 3-3.5AAV or wait a few season at that and sign him long term at a similar AAV. That’s an extra 1million in extra space. Schmidt will likely get around 5milAAV if he plays well this season and Engelland would get the Vets Minimum. I’d definately re-sign Belle as he is huge for our team, but he also wouldn’t be getting a raise. Nosek and Subban are gonna still be on cheap RFA deals. Karlsson will likely only get around a 2million raise if he gets close to 30 goals and Hayes won’t get a massive raise either as a current 3rd line center and possible 2nd if Stastny drops off. Tuch wil also get a reasonable RFA bridge deal of around 3-4 million AAV if he grows as expected this season. Some problems though are Reaves’ contract and Tatar’s cap hit. I could see Reaves as a buyout after this season possibly and Tatar as a trade candidate if this season doesn’t go to plan, and especially if he’s gonna get stuck on the third line. Also, don’t forget that while the cap would be tight, we’re not the only team in the league that has to deal with it and we need to make a serious push for the Cup while Fleury can still play well.

Las Vegs Trades for Max Pacioretty
I’d take that trade in an instant as Knights GM because we are competing for the playoffs as much as any other team and Patches would replace a lot of the production we lost from Perron and Neal. I’d also edit the Sens trade to include Dzingel to play that third line LW/C role with Haula. He’s a perfect fit that we can re-sign on the cheap too. Also, Glass won’t be ready for this season. That’s three pretty deadly lines:
Marchy-Karlsson-Smith
Patches-Stastny-Tuch
Haula-Dzingel-Tatar
Nosek-PEB-Reaves

How about Tatar, Lescychyn, and a 2nd. I’m just spitting out an idea because Spurgeon replaces Tatar and Les+2nd evens out Spurgeon and Zuckers value. I’ve seen plenty of Wild trades with us but I don’t think this is one situation that works out for both teams.

Are they a contender or bubble team?
I’d say bubble, because if you look at the Pacific it’s impossible to guess who’s gonna play well or not from season to season. The Sharks, Knights, and Flames are who I think are the top contenders in the division. After them, you’ve got the Kings and Ducks who are aging but have the talent to make the playoffs. At the bottom, you’ve got Edmonton, Phoenix, and Vancouver who are rebuilding but could surprise.

How Terrible is it: Ottawa Senators
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jassan28</b></div><div>Stone will be a UFA in one year so he is just a rental player. Carlson is a decent roster defenceman already and will greatly improve our D corps immediately. That awful Girardi contract is just to add a speck of leadership in our terrible team so we aren’t as bad. This is a rebuilding roster from 2019 and on as the team will lose many pieces. We have to keep Duchene all year because we need points and to be a bubble team knowing that we don’t own our own pick. If we trade our 1st line center there is no hope of not finishing in the bottom 5 in the standings. I agree however that Stone can catch better pieces from other teams but I don’t know where to trade him to</div></div>
I traded Stone and Dzingel to us for a package of Suzuki, Carrier, Eakin, Carr, and 1st/2nd/3rd. I was then told that’s not enough so.... I could move Tatar in there and base this on the idea he would resign because we would have cap for him.

You are right, If I were Karlsson I would never accept 6.5 for more than one season. The problem there is if we do give him something like a 6 year 10mil AAV contract and he somehow flops next season he ruins his career and turns into a more expansive Bobby Ryan.

This is exactly why Karlsson went to arbitration in the first place. We can argue all day about what he’s worth and whether he deserves it, but he only has one season of proof. If he scores 30+ goals again next year I’d be glad to pay him whatever he wants.

Suzuki and Sprong (PIT/VGK trades)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>arousedcat</b></div><div>I just noticed you forgot Kunin. He would likely be where Coyle is now, shifting everyone on the right side down a slot. Of course, this is assuming all of our prospects pan out which is risky. You also left out Kaprizov and he would definitely be our top line LW with Granny and Eriksson Ek. I think at that point Koivu would be best in a 4th line role. Not many people know this but Greenway actually played the whole season at center last year at BU, he could slot in as that 3C.
After you update that it looks a lot better:
Kaprizov - Eriksson Ek - Granlund
Zucker - Suzuki - Kunin
Parise - Greenway - Coyle
Foligno - Koivu - Brown
If we moved Staal for Faulk our blue line would be:
Suter - Dumba
Brodin - Faulk/Belpedio (Our 1st round pick this year, Filip Johansson, could also be a possibility on this pairing)
Seeler/Soucy - Pateryn</div></div>
Yeah, that looks really great! I’m not fully educated on the Wilds farm so I didn’t know who would go where.
In terms of the team, it looks very strong and could line up perfectly to compete in the central in two seasons time.
Glad we were able to come upon a deal for both sides. I’d also update the actual ACGM up top with all this too, Thanks!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>datools</b></div><div>Well, you might argue that the price is high but I think trading Tuch for Kessel is a deal you have to make if you're Vegas, 1.1 pts per game vs. less than 0.5. So idk if he's as untouchable as you think. He's good for sure, obviously. As for taking on more space, I was curious to see what contracts were coming up next season so I looked at it and did these re-signings:
UFA YEARS CAP HIT
Engelland, Deryk 1 $1,500,000
Schmidt, Nate 4 $4,000,000
Bellemare, Pierre-Édouard 1 $1,500,000
RFA YEARS CAP HIT
Nosek, Tomas 1 $1,500,000
Just a quick look and Vegas would have 1 mill left in space (without considering a cap increase, which would probably mean 2-3 mill in space)
What do you think?</div></div>
I can’t argue with Kessels production now, but Tuch is looking like he’s going to explode this season while Kessel could begin to regress.
