Threaten to waive JT til he waves
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hawksguy81</b></div><div>Actually, as long as Tavaras waives (not likely) and the trade happens after July 1 and Toronto pays him his $7m signing bonus, Hawks would probably be happy to take Tavaras. Only costs the Hawks $900k in actual salary for JT. Well worth taking on the $11m cap hit which wouldn't get used otherwise anyway.</div></div>
The Hawks would still be foolish to let the Leafs out of salary cap hell without extracting some decent draft capital for taking on over $13m in cap space.
Add a 1st round pick and either Cowan or Minten.

CHI says no-why would they do that
STL says no-what’s the incentive or value
COL says no-that doesn’t remotely get a top 4 dman
WSH says no

Girard > Graves
COL is never trading Landeskog.
But yeah great deal for COL trading a top line winger(when healthy) and a top 4 dman for an awful dman, a fringe player a goalie and a throw away pick. 🙄

Better looking Sens 2024-25 roster
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>Chychrun is constantly top of the league in individual scoring chances by defensemen. He is easily one of the best defensemen at getting the puck to net. The only 2 guys consistently better than him every year are Josi and Hamilton (Hamilton missed most of the season so obviously he wasn't there this year) He's also done this while playing on not 1 but 2 bottom of the league teams.
I can understand why it's a bad fit for the Avs due to term and lack of need for a #1 or #2 defenseman but Girard is certainly not better. Chychrun will rightfully get ~8M on his next deal, Girard would not get more than he is making right now</div></div>
Chychrun isn’t a #1 dman at all, he has 2 40pt season in his career he has 17 more career points than Girard logging over 200 more minutes of PP time, his shot metrics 5v5 are middle of the road. You want to pay him $8.5M be my guest have fun with that and a guy that is a 2nd pairing dman.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TJTwolf</b></div><div>Have to agree to disagree but there's no way I'm paying Chicken Run that kind of money and once again it illustrates exactly why the Avs don't do it. There is ZERO chance of re-signing him.</div></div>
Again, not arguing whether Avs can afford it. Just that Chychrun is better. I understand why the Avs can't make the trade but that doesn't mean it's a good deal for Ottawa either

--v</div></div>. Way better how? Because he is taller? Girard has better shot share and xG stats. I mean yeah OTT isn’t kicking in a 1st in this trade scenario but I don’t agree the Chychrun is even better period.

Context matters: they didn't have a goalie so they overpaid for Kuemper

Avs are only saving about 1.5 mill. TVR had 103 blocks 22 hits. Manson had 109 blocks and 211 hits. The Avs don't really have another defender on the team like Manson. So as much as I think they would like to save money, they'd probably pass on that deal.

Cup Contenders v7
Lawson Crouse looks good on paper and has about 5 good games a year, but always makes me think of the phrase “looks like Tarzan but plays like Jane”. The Super Soakers would have to be dumb not to take that.
Georgiev’s entire future is going to play out in the next couple of weeks, plays like game 1 and he’s a goner, play like game 2 a bunch more and he’s back.

Capitals make the move for the future and get younger
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Logicalicesports</b></div><div>Well again the Cap issue is the only way I see something like this happening. Its not his value but the fact that the Avs will need to move someone out. His value is absolutely higher than what I am showing but I am also focusing on the fact that someone will be forced out of Denver and I cannot see them trading Manson, Colton or any of the other big name roster players that are locked up</div></div>
You aren’t thinking this through. You have COL trading a top 4 dman in less than 6 months after they traded another, to acquire a goalie they let walk for a 3rd and $1.5 in cap space. Granted you didn’t do the flip side but then you assume they prefer an older worse performing Kuemper and still have to move Georgiev and then have to fill another top 4 d spot, how is that working cap wise? It isn’t. Maybe COL even moves Girard, highly doubtful but let’s roll with it, they aren’t taking back $3.5M in salary cap if they do. That’s why your cap situation explanation makes no sense COL gets significantly more benefit out of trading someone like Girard for pure futures so they have money to spend on something worth while ie Mittlestadt extension and pocket future assets that are usable in trade. Beside as bad as Georgie has been Kuemper isn’t Girard better than him. Really flawed logic.

Capitals make the move for the future and get younger
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Logicalicesports</b></div><div>Avs will be in a tight cap constraint and they will most likely get rid of their current goaltending situation with how poor it has been in the playoffs. If they lose in the first round they will definitely be looking to make a change in net.</div></div>
Making a change in net might very well happen but thinking Kuemper and a third nets a top 4 dman is a massive joke, you didn’t think that one through at all. They let Kuemper walk a year ago but somehow they are now going to take him back after his play has suffered to the point of being pushed to the back up role and to do so give up a 25yr old top 4 dman. Bro that’s just silly.

You don’t really think that gets Girard do you? Kuemper is the back up goalie. Got to love CF and hey here is a back up goalie and a 3rd give a top 4 dman locked up on a good contract. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Markstrom
Cory Schneider was 27 when he was traded, and posted a .927, .929, and .937 save percentages the three years before he was traded.
Markstrom is 34 if he is traded this offseason, and has had .892, .905, and .922 save percentages the past three years.
I don't see the comp at all?
Perhaps a better comp would be Marc-Andre Fleury to the Wild
Flower was 36 when he was traded. He had posted .905, .908, and .928 save percentages the three years prior. The return was a conditional second that become a first if Minnesota made the conference finals and Fleury had 4 wins in the first two rounds.
Or Cam Talbot to Ottawa for Filip Gustavvson
Talbot was 34 at the time of the trade and had recorded .911, .915, and .919 save percentages the previous three years. Gustavvson was a recent second round draft pick. I don't know team's prospect pools well enough to give a comparable player, but let's assume it's a second.
The market rate for good, aging goalies seems to be right around a second. Not a top 10 pick or a team's best prospect.
