Fair enough. He'd be a sneaky good pick-up for any team in the playoffs though.

There is plenty of articles such as this and it’s very obvious considering he just watched Tanev, Gaudreau, and Tkachuk move to the States.
I highly doubt you guys have enough flexibility to pay Hanifin his expected 7-8 million when you have half your cap tied to 4 players.</div></div>
Thanks for sharing. Friedman is usually pretty spot on but still gotta wonder if Toronto would be a possible exception in this case. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

Make My Dreams Come True
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ansabch12</b></div><div>True and that's the problem the Flames are already very hesitant to trade with the Leafs, there is simply no chance they give up the biggest market piece to them for less than they can acquire from a team that has a much higher chance of re-signing him.
Also not really, Leafs fans tend to really overvalue Liljegren and Robertson, they both have injury issues and simply don't have the same potential impact as younger players like Poitras or Lohrei, not to mention the fact that the Leafs are almost guaranteed to not be able to re-sign him so i'm not sure why you guys want him so badly.
It would be a much better use of your assets to trade for a RHD who isn't deadset on playing in the States</div></div>
Leafs have more than enough flexibility to sign him and I haven't seen one verified source indicating he is deadset on playing in the states.

Well, not sure what to make of that and its impossible to know what Hanifin is really thinking. Leafs are clearly not done making moves and Tre has never been shy to make a big splash. Besides his connection with Hanifin in bringing him to Cgy, there's probably also a relationship with Gio, Brodie and Matthews as well. Unless its been verified that he flat out won't go there, you can't rule the Leafs out.

To max out the deal, you'll need a sign & trade and there's probably only three or so teams that have a realistic shot at signing him (BOS, TBL, TOR). Lily & Robo is pretty much equivalent to some of the Proitas & Lorei packages I've seen bandied about. Leafs can also offer more picks in 2024 than the Bruins or Lightning.

And, Dumba is not a negative acquisition when he's replacing one of Gio, Lagesson or TImmins for the playoffs. IF it came to not having better options, I'd rather roll the dice with Dumba than stand pat with the current D. How is this so hard to comprehend?

Perfect TDL
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>Ok a few points here
1. Niemela isn't NHL ready, probably won't be next year either and will take time to develop into a top 4 defenseman on the 3rd pair first if he even makes it to that. Saying Liljegren is expendable because of him is asinine.
2. Liljegren and Andersson are nothing alike. Andersson is much more similar in style and skill to Rielly. Offensive defenseman who isn't a complete liability defensively. Liljegren will mac out as a 2nd pairing caliber guy if he reaches that but at age 24 (almost 25) he is currently a 3rd pairing caliber defenseman with sheltered minutes. At the same age Andersson was playing a 1st pairing role consistently against top competition all year.
Don't get me wrong, I like Liljegren, but these comparisons to Andersson that Leafs fans keep making are laughable at best</div></div>
Besides Niemela, I'd strongly wager that Tanev signs with the Leafs in 24-25. And It's evident you know very little about Niemela. He's already played a few years pro going back to Liiga and is closer than you think to cracking a spot and I'm not alone in that thought process: https://theathletic.com/5252959/2024/02/06/maple-leafs-prospect-topi-niemela/
Andersson and Rielly is an unexpected but interesting comparison. Lily, for the most part, is actually a better defender than both and may just be some PP time away from producing in the same ball park as Andersson.
I admit, I'm not familiar with Andersson's exact usage at the time, but their 1st full seasons (same age) are actually very similar statistically. Flames had Giordano (Norris), Brodie, Hanifin and Hamonic, so I'd imagine as a rookie, he played a fair bit of sheltered minutes, as did Lily. Now, Andersson without question is currently way better - he's stronger, battles harder and is faster, but Lily has shown some flashes to date and wouldn't be surprised if he eventually solidifies himself as a top 4 guy.

This seems like a unanimous opinion with Flames fanbase. However, if he's really that inclined to sign with the Flames then why not trade him and make it a a win-win scenario. Let him try and win a Cup with his good buddy Nylander and then he can sign with the Flames in the offseason.

Kylington being better than Lily might be pushing it a tad. Besides the fact he's a younger non-UFA, Lily has played top-pair minutes during this Leafs streak and I'm extremely reluctant to trade him. Only reason I'd entertain moving him is because we have Niemela in our system. He's on a similar trajectory to Rasmus Andersson, and could very well end up a slightly lesser version of him. With the way I've seen your fanbase value Andersson, this trade should be a landslide in your favor.
