Oh wow, your right when teams trade for rentals they tend to be shocker playoff teams and usual the better playoffs teams, its almost like if you look at past rental trades that information would also be baked in.... Oh right it is. What a pointless statement. Like more than double his actual value isn't way out in left field.

I mean, obviously, they'll take the most they can get, but wingers just aren't that valuable in the NHL at the moment. Go look at winger trades over the last few years, and it's pretty clear. Look at what DeBrincat got.

You understand that picks aren't set at the time of trade, right so just because it ended up being 17, it could have been and was more likely to be higher? Or do you know Lekkermaki's value is up from when he was drafted (he'd be above 15 in a redraft)? Or moving up even a couple of spots in the draft, especially the further up you are in the 1st round, is absurdly expensive. For example moving up two spots, the same number of spots as 17 to 15 in this case, cost a third (22 to 20 in 2021 and 24 to 22 in 2020).

No, I'm acting like comps exist. Start of the year Bo was your comp, but you are hoping to get that now with the year he has had. 1st from a playoff team B prospect and cap dump coming back is the ceiling. Lekkermaki (top 15 pick who won world junior MVP) > than Islanders protected pick and Raty. You are acting like people are lining up to overpay for his 15-goal pace. He's a good player and worth a later 1st plus a sweetener, but you're out here thinking he's worth multiple first-rounders in value which is far off it is laughable.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Prime_Jimbo</b></div><div>Copp was a rental a two years ago, fetched a conditional first, conditional 2nd, 5th and Morgan Barron.
If Van moves these picks and Pod, I'd argue that's equivalent. Now for the 2nd year, it's not a stretch to see how it could be worth another prospect. Albeit, a RHD, whose been scorching lately.</div></div>
So first of all you know he isn't a center and never really has been. So 1 he won't be able to play 2c for us and you have to value him as a winger.
The 1st was conditional on a pretty significant condition (need to make the conference finals and play at least half the games), otherwise it was a second.
Toffoli is probably a better comp it's 2.5 years at 4.25 instead 1.5 of 2.9m. You could subtract the subsequent trade and adjust for the retention. That's probably the best way.
Calgary sent 1.75m cap dump back for the trade deadline so cap is about even that year, so only need to adjust for cap in second year.
1.5 years of Toffoli was worth 1st, 4th, 5th and Emil Heineman (2nd round pick in d+3 year probably a C prospect at the time comparable to Klimovich right now)
1.35m full year of cap retention would be less than a 2nd (bailey trade out to Chicago with buyout was [1.166x2 years) was for a 2026 2nd) it's probably 2024 3rd but we'll say a 2nd to be conservative.
They got a 3rd and a good prospect/roster player back, got to be worth at least a 2nd (although probably more), but we can say that to be conservative.
So adding it all up you've got 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th and Klimovich/3rd minus a 2nd and 3rd. So could be 1sr, plus 4th and 5th or 1st, 4th, 5th and Klimovich with a 3rd coming back. So why not say to be conservative drop the third coming back and it's 1st, 4th, 5th and Klim for this, hell you could drop Klim and the 4th and put in a second if you want to go wild. That you're still and Podz and Hunter too high.
I think the realistic trade is probably about Podz and a 1st.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Subbanator7667</b></div><div>Talking about Kovacevic? I don't think you get less than a 3rd. He's a solid bottom pairing option and would be an easy cap hit for any team</div></div>
Yes, what I'm saying if teams are willing to pay at most a 3rd for him at the trade deadline, then his value in the offseason will 100% be less than that. The value of him at the trade deadline is worth something which must be in addition to what he's worth at the off season since his cap hit is so good. So either he's worth more than a 3rd a the deadline (since it should be next season's value plus the remainder of this season's value), or he's worth less in the off-season (since the deadline value of a 3rd must be worth the remainder of this seasons value plus next season's value). I hope I'm making sense.

If Giroux wants to win
Kuz 100% has value. It isn't that he's played poorly, why his numbers aren't as good as last year, they easily justify his contract. It's a systems issue between him and the coach. Teams know this. They will obviously try to use this to lowball the Canucks on his actual value, but I think multiple teams will want him (based on reports) and competition will push the price back up towards its true value.

Getting creative but still competing at deadline
I think Kuz +1st for Guentzal has some logic. Anything more is a crazy overpay. I also think Canucks would probably only do that for a rental not a contract. The logic is they get to move out of Kuz next year to free that money up for other things in free agency and Pens get an extra year of a top winger plus 1st which balances the value.

Just wait till next year to trade Kovacevic and get the same return
If they trade Allen they're not bringing another goalie back and certainly not one that's playing like a cap dump
Don't think you get a 3rd for Ylonen</div></div>
The trade being this year 100% effects value lol. You'd get less. Probably becomes a 4th if you wait.

It would 100% require a trade of either Garland, Boeser or Kuz. Honestly, we don't even have space this year for that trade. I think the logic of this trade includes trading Kuz. If you could do something like Kuz to Washington for a 1st and that first plus Lekkermaki for Norris makes a lot more sense. Better yet that 1st plus this years 1st instead of Lek.

I definitely think the two 4ths and Woo over values Kap, but I agree if the second 4th is used for double retention this is probably about right and maybe makes more sense that way.

I think fair value for Woo. Maybe a some sort of deal to get Kapanen retained combined with this? Canucks would need to probably need to add to get the retention. Maybe Woo plus 4th for Kapanen 50% retained?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Vancity2196</b></div><div>Kuzmenko didn’t ask for a trade, and he is not going anywhere.</div></div>
I'm fine with the logic of trading him, but not selling him low, I think a first is fine and if it saves cap and moves money from wing to D or C I'm for it. I never said he asked for a trade.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BoringBrianMacLellan</b></div><div>A top 6 scoring winger signed past this season would be huge for the Caps lol

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ClockReads2113</b></div><div>People need to stop thinking Mantha is contract dump. We're way past that. He's been stellar for the last month. Fine drop Mantha, I was viewing it as neutral value with retention.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Canuckfan98</b></div><div>idk how comfortable id be with Laughton as a 2c</div></div>
If he can't handle it he's still a good winger at that price or bottom 6C and you can move Miller back, but I think the value of getting Miller to wing is worth it.
