Laine marner trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Billy739</b></div><div>Since entering the NHL 3 seasons ago your #5 and #6 Goal scorers overall in the NHL

Mathews is God
Laine is streaky</div></div>
How many assist do they both have? One is reliable centerman who can do it all, the other is onedimensional goalscorer.. How many games did they play? What is Laine's 5v5 production and contribution compared to Matthews? There is a lot more to it then just goals.. not saying Matthews is god, but he is one of the best players in the league. And Laine is streaky, but he is amazing goalscorer when he puts it on.

Montreal Canadiens - Gardiner and Small Trades
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rinzler</b></div><div>I agree with u, he should get paid, but not that much.</div></div>
Actually Gardiner just might be a nice one year fit for the Habs. Since he doesn't appear to getting offers, maybe overpaying him one year works well for both Gardiner and the Habs. Maybe 6.5m gets him.

The real question is, is Marner actually just another passenger on this team?

Why does no one complain about the Matthew Contract
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CBJ4CUP</b></div><div>Yes I agree, I just dont understand how Marner is becoming the bad guy in this, when Matthews got exactly what he wanted</div></div>
Just wait until after he signs. No one will really care anymore. He'll sign, he'll produce and the leafs will win a lot of games. Then the media will fire up the fans in some other way and the legions of haters will pour their attention into chirping the Leafs and compound the problem that is Leafs Mania.

Team Canada
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rinzler</b></div><div>I totally agree with what youre saying, much of these veterans paved the way for Canada it's honestly a coin toss in my opinion between Bergy and Toews, both are great centers, just felt Berg had a but more overall strengths. On the Marner front I could say he's a great playmaker and I would think he would pair up well with Mcdavid. No doubt Toews is still an amazing center and has my respect. Just too many centers at this point in the line up in my opinion.</div></div>
Bergeron is 3 years older than Toews....by the time team Canada needs either of them I feel like he'll be the one that is missed, even if the 2 are equal just based on age....

Team Canada
Toews makes the team somewhere....He's the best or at least a top 2 faceoff guy on this team...very important in international tournaments......If I was picking between Toews and Bergeron, I would pick Toews...though it's a very close pick. Also, as good as Marner was last year, does he deserve to be on this team over either Toews or Bergeron? Tough calls for Team Canada going forward....great young Canadians to pick from, but most of these older Canadian veterans have never lost an international tournament....even in Juniors.

I think I just did Somn
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rinzler</b></div><div>Fair point, I agree Dubas wouldn't be the type to crack to pressure, as we witnessed with the nylander contract last year, he was willing to let him sit. But I feel like a person of marner's caliber, who lead the team in scoring for 2 seasons, he may be inclined to get a deal done before the season starts, to avoid losing out on a player that is a definite difference maker. This could mean that he may have to give in a bit (not fully crack) to marner's ask. I can definitely see marner signing for 10.65-10.85 MM for 5-6 years.</div></div>
Marner can ask for 10.6-10.85. But thats a joke if Dubas agrees to it. Thats a huge overpayment for Marner. A definate difference maker? Yeah sure but is he the best difference maker they have, id argue no. Also you talk about leading the team in points. Sure he did. But why did he. his 2nd year, Matthews was injured. I would argue MAtthews probably would have got over 69 points if he was healthy.
Last season, Marner increased 25+. JT only increased +4. Now I think they both make eachother better, but Marner playing with an Elite center wooha. I keep asking myself What would marners point totals of been if he wasnt playing with JT all the time. If he had Kadri, Kapanen, Johnsonn Hyman. You need an elite finisher if your marner. ive watched passes bounce of Hyman, Kap, Kadri sticks, skates, shin pads, or not even being in the right position all together too many times over the years with him. In my head Marner would get 70-82 points. Which is still great.
But we need to be reasonable. JT is elite. Him with Marner is amazing but defintately helped point totals.
In terms of AAV few comparables
Kanes 2nd contract- 11% of the cap, basically been compared to Marner his whole life
Point - Rumored 8-9Mil/5. 1 year older, scores more goals plays center
AHO- Same age, same draft. Plays center(more valuable), scores more goals(more valuable), better defensively, and at least equal to marner in production/skill. Signed an offersheet, agreed he is worth 8.5/5. Carolina and Montreal also agreed he is worth that. Boom best comparable.
So Marner 6/2, 7.5/3, 8/4, 8.5/5, 9/6, 9.5/7, 10/8 Fair value Sign please
Also if Dubas is smart he starts leaking trade rumors in august and scare marner into signing. if Marner wants to be a leaf(as is believed) and Paul and Ferris are posioning him with bad advice(as is believed) things will get sorted pretty quickly. Fair deal

I mean city should not affect term. skill should. Dubas is a math guy and hasnt cracked to any BS marner camp pressure. So I doubt he is going to go, hey here is an extra 1M becasue you live in toronto, and by the way have fun with your 3+mil a year endorcement deals

Unfortunately, Strome is likely to cost around $5M, but maybe the Leafs can shelter his production this coming season in a 3rd line role.

McDavid Trade: it is interesting. I hate it, which propbably means its getting to the point of a fair trade. But I like the out of the box thinking
Marner: You have overpaid Marner 2-3Million AAV. He is worth 8.5/5 (same as Aho) and go up and down from there based on the term.
Gards: Very low AAV but i agree with you. I think he wants back. Why has he not signed with any other team in free agency. 50pt defencement dont grow on trees. But he could sign for that perhaps.
Ceci: Yes please go far away
