Restructuring the Wild Card Race.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BDHockey</b></div><div>What if rather than each conference getting 2 WC teams what if there were just 4 League wide WC teams? Could result in 3 or even 4 teams from the same conference, but that is fine in my opinion and opens up some interesting possibilities.
- For starters it makes the race so much tighter. It makes games down the final stretch more interesting and some games more important.
- Results in less lame duck teams making the playoffs and fanbases complaining about how weak the other conference is and unfair it is.
- Could result in teams playing on the opposite side of the Bracket, which I think creates some interesting situations that seems really goofy on paper, but could be cool.
I understand this is very unrealistic, but what do we think?
In addition to this I think that you PWHL system to make the bottom feeder teams compete harder in the final stretch. I think that this makes April an even more mad stretch that is basically playoff hockey.</div></div>
Travel would be the biggest issues.
Let's say the Rangers win the presidents trophy. So their prize for being the best team all season is to (instead of playing the capitals) travel across country to St Louis to play the Blues while while every other team is travelling inside their conference/division.

Are the Leafs actually cursed?
They luck into a lottery win and get the greatest player the franchise has ever seen, draft an elite play making winger to ride shotgun and the Norse god of Charm and handsomeness. Only for it to line up with the peaking of a modern day dynasty, the best years of the greatest defensive forward ever to take the ice and the birth of "well they can't call everything" hockey a state where anything is legal.
Then once/if they get out of their division/conference it's Vegas' core of T800 "Jack-Reacher is loosely based on my life" death machines, Connor McJesus or they get lucky and it's "only" Nathan MacKinnon and his band of merry men.
Side note. Has this sport ever been better than it is now?

Where does Kucherov sit in terms of Russian players. And where will he end up. He had a slow start, didn't have the draft pedigree of some others but he has the two most productive seasons by a Russian player, instrumental in two cups. I'm too close to it and we are firmly in recency bias.
He's half decent. Where's he sit?

When the game stops for more than 2 minutes for a review it can totally throw a wet blanket on a good game. And its terrible viewing. The game should be about the hockey not about watching a bunch of guys look at an iPad.

If every team has a crew looking at every entry to determine offsides the league should employ a team aswell. If there's an offside review that takes more than 30seconds the goal should stand.

Should the NHL have loser points during the regular season ?
The OTL points make for a more interesting stretch. If you remove it you get more nothing games toward the end of the season.
The playoff race is more exciting with the extra point.

When you factor in how obviously the rest of the lineup is trying to find him and sacrificing their own scoring opportunities its only a matter of time before he gets it.
Is there anyone who's betting against him at this point. He'll play for another 4 seasons at 10goals per if he has to.

How has Hanifin and Toffoli been since the deadline?
Hanifin was in the lineup for Vegas against Tampa and looked like his skate were concrete.

Still tough to bet against them being a playoff threat mind you...
However, in that game they seemed so averse to getting burned by TBL speed/transition - that they literally backed into their goalie several times, thus leaving the SLOT Area Wide Open!
Hey Vegas --- > GAP-UP!</div></div>
They put all their pennies on their forecheck. And when it paid off it was tenacious. Once Tampa beat F2 they were off.

Two takeaways from Tampa Vegas.
1) Tampa on a 4 game win streak against Playoff bound opponents.
2) there's gotta be a limit on how long reviews can take. Tampa iced the game in the third, Vegas took ages to decide to review, then the review took a lift time, only for the goal to stand. Vegas fans had time to almost completely empty the building before the review was done.

I think its a much better idea than a boring lottery, and keeps things interesting in the regular season.
The rules the PWHL implemented are so exciting, such a fun league</div></div>
So you tank hard then load up at the deadline. 😋 That's a sick rule awesome. Do they have any quirks to the 3 on 3 overtime?
