San Jose Sharks signed Evander Kane (7 Years / $7,000,000 AAV)
in a vacuum, I'd call this a bad contract - however, given SJs situation I can understand it. how many years of contention do the sharks have left? maybe it's already too late, but with Pavelski and Burns aging, Couture and Kane in their prime.. it's okay to overpay up front. maybe isn't gonna be a 35 goal scorer at 30 anymore, but you pay them for their primes and tolerate them getting paid when they are in the back years of their contracts. a similar thing happened to Rick Nash (and the Rangers got an okay return for him at age 33 with a higher cap hit and probably lower production!) in 2 or 3 years, the sharks won't be signing UFAs anyway. they won't be in a cap crunch and that's why paying Kane now is WAY better than letting him go to UFA just because they wanted to save 500k on him.

Top 5 Hart Trophy candidates
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Chopper02</b></div><div>He's not that good defensively. Marner and Hyman are much better than him on that side. Marchand is the driver behind his team. PK, PP, even strength, he does it all.</div></div>
Matthews is decent defensively. Playing on the penalty kill necessitate defensive ability. Using the argument that Marchand is more deserving because he plays in all situations hurts the argument for McDavid and Kane, since they don't. Definitely should've stopped at "Bruins are noticeably better with him than without".
Anyways, my top 5 would be:
-McDavid
-Vasilevskiy
-P. Kane
-MacKinnon
-Matthews

1st, 3rd, two 4th, 5th and a 7th all traded away in 24 hours, Trader Cliff "draft shamft" Flether is back in charge.
for a bottom 6 checker, an average backup goalie, an injured 4th liner, a 7th Dman and a minor leaguer. All of them rentals, save for the past his prime prospects.

Fair deal, since Hutton can become a depth guy and isn't expected much of. While Ducks continue to collect assets.

(TOR/SJS) - Barabanov for Suomela
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>draft_em_sign_em_trade_em</b></div><div>Swing and a miss, good luck trying to lure more undrafted and unsigned players Doofus, Lehtonen and Barbanov, probably, privately are saying nasty things about the Leafs organization.</div></div>
Or conversely, the Leafs traded them elsewhere because they wanted to give them a chance to actually play instead of sitting in the press box for months at a time? I'd say that's more admirable than keeping them when everyone knows they're not gonna play.

Jusse Saros, underrated.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RagingSharksFan</b></div><div>Vezina, is a definite no. Vasilevskiy, Fleury, others have been doing really well. There is a case for Saros though, and I think that he should have a good shot. Hart is a forward's game with McDavid having an unprecedented season(unprecedented in points and word)
Saros is carrying the Preds, and may be the successor to Rinne, and a stopgap for Askarov</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mondo</b></div><div>I think he'll get 3rd or 4th place in Vezina. He won't get close to the Hart.
Vasilevskiy is likely going to win this season and I think Fleury will get a significant amount of votes.
Grubauer, Varlamov and Saros will be in the running for 3rd through 5th.</div></div>
I think Hart likely goes to McDavid -- but I can't really think of a guy more important to his team right now than Saros is to NSH.
For Vezina, I think Vas, Fleury, and Saros will be the 3 nominated. I ultimately think Vas wins it, but If Saros keeps it up, I could see an upset.

Uhhh the $11,500,000 question is where is Francis Perron lmao</div></div>
Hey Tierney was a great placeholder for us the past 3 years. Ate up important minutes to let the younger guys develop and he alone has as many points as Karlsson does since the trade!
Also I remember Francis Perron got off to a hot start in the AHL after the trade and all sens fans were like of course he is... but he was never a prospect we counted on, more just a throw in to make the trade logistics work

POLL is this a good return for McDavid
I wouldn't trade McDavid anything less than the biggest trade of NHL history. Even then it would be a tough pill to swallow.
The guy is just a generational talent with a skillset which might not be seen for years or even decades to come.

Thoughts on Pavelski,Nyquist and Donskoi walking in FAs.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Sharks2020</b></div><div>I'm sad about Pavs and Donny.
Nyquist could've beem great
Thoughts? Anyone?</div></div>
Well Joe was one of my favorite players... I liked the others, Donskoi seemed to have fallen out of favor after starting his career there pretty good... Joe was always hurt or faded in playoffs while Logan was the clutch guy... I think they were better off keeping Hoffman over Karlsson last year... Then trying to get a Muzzin type player to improve the left side D.. They would have had Braun/DeMelo/Heed on right side w/ Burns... I'm not nearly as upset as I was when Judas Marleau left the team... I think it was time for Joe to go in a way... They went pretty far without him... They need to improve the left side of D... They can probably replace some of what they lost or improve... Brodzinski I like who they signed, they were able to keep HEed so their right side of D should be good...
They already lost the window for Cup I think so maybe everything is future... Losing Mirco Mueller from expansion having to trade to DEvils hurt them badly in a way... I think if expansion timed a bit different maybe they win a Cup. I wont be upset if Joe wins a cup for STars, I'm more upset about the contract they gave krap Karl to be frank :).

Not a Sharks fan but i don't like Pavelski's decision to leave as the captain of his team.
SJS is still probably a playoff team. I think they're going to get Thornton and Marleau signed.
