I should’ve also done a ACGM for 23-24 to see what those salaries look like, my bad.

If you’re gonna spend big, you can probably go $15-16m x 8 years for Matthews and get a much cheaper RW, and that line will be good to go.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Chabotrrorr</b></div><div>Why would you do this? Crouse is just a slight upgrade on Dube: he's older and on fire, and Dube's younger and in a slump. Crouse will slow down eventually, and Dube will get up and running again eventually, so why make this trade? And Mackey is a better option at 6D than Gilbert, in my personal opinion.</div></div>
Like I said in the description the trade is hard for me. Dube just can’t find his game in Calgary, and I don’t know why? Crouse has been starting to find his scoring touch, and the bigger body would compliment Hubie and Kadri better.
If I don’t have to include Mackey, great

Lol, no I love his rhetoric, sometimes overdone. And I have never made a proposal that I thought everyone would love. Sometimes I do it to see how cap would work, sometimes for fun, sometimes to see what others reactions are to my idea. Some are always quick to critique with very little feedback.
To your point Laf is valuable to the Rangers, yes, but under utilized in his potential because of their depth.

For this scenario sure. Let’s work off the premise that we got Dubois, and 2/3 of the French Connection with Hubie, who do you add to that line? And then just for my own curiosity, who would you propose who’s not French Canadian?
Also could you imagine a 2nd line of Mang-Kadri-Lindy

Fair enough for your intuitive comments. You could’ve just said that was stupid like others, lol
In all honesty I understand that both are an overpayment, which you would have to do to create a trade that the other team doesn’t really want to make. But while you’re being engaging, if not Laff, who could be another LW that would look good there? I was also trying to get younger, food for thought.

D Depth

I don’t see any scenario where either Edmonton or LA could have space to take on a Kane even at the deadline. They are both maxed out and taking advantage of LTIR. Edmonton isn’t gaining cap space at the deadline and have to move out significant salary out to add anyone. LA would have around $4 M at the deadline which still isn’t enough to add Kane. Where as the Flames could make a play for Chychrun now, and still have enough money at the deadline to go after Kane (as they’re currently at $6 M in deadline space.)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>Why does Mackey need to be placed on waivers for Meloche to play? Calgary has 1.6M cap space right now and can also still send Ritchie down for free</div></div>
Because if you decide to carry both of them and without any moves Kyl comes back, you now have 9 D men up (no accruing cap space), and no one is eligible to go back down without waivers. It is just really bad management to put yourself in that spot</div></div>

D Depth
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>Tanev isn't out long term. Arizona likely also has very little interest in Kylington and Calgary doesn't/shouldn't need Chychrun at all.
I agree on Mackey not being good enough but in that case we should call up Meloche who played quite a lot in the NHL last year
Also there is zero chance Arizona retains on a player already severely underpaid</div></div>
Hopefully Tanev isn’t out long term. Arizona has to take Kyl for cap reasons. And they wouldn’t have to retain to make this work, it just helps.
Also if Calgary brings Meloche up, Mackey would have to be out on waivers, and I don’t want to lose another young d for nothing. Meloche also doesn’t cover up the speed they’re missing on D, not with the transition game. Stone is already better at doing what Meloche brings.
Calgary very well may not “need” Chychrun. But they need him more than they need a team like LA or Edmonton getting him.

New Lines After 5 Games - NO TRADES - Flames Fan Debate
The chemistry on the 1st line isn’t there yet, but I also don’t think you break them up yet. Give them a little more runway to sort out the disjointedness.
2nd line is good, leave it be. I like the DNA line
3rd line, I would like to see Ruzie take Lewis’ spot for 10 games and see what transpires, not 1 game. Give them a bit of time together also.
4th line I’m with you leave it be as the energy line.
I disagree about Hannifin and his absence was noticeable against Buffalo. Leave Hannifin and Anderson together.
Without Kyl, Tanev to me hasn’t looked as good with Weegar. But I don’t know the solution?
For me a pairing I think could be very good is Big Z and Weegar, but I know I’m in the minority.
PP #1 should be Mang - Kadri - Lindholm with Hubie and Anderson, and run a 1-3-1, Mang down low, floating in and out of the front of the net, Hubie running off the wings as a floater off the side walls, Kadri and Lindy moving in and out of the bunker position depending what side of the ice the puck is on. And Anderson up top.
PP #2 mix up the look and go with an umbrella and put Looch in front of the net. Have Toffoli on the LW boards, Weegar on LD, Stone on RD, and Dube on the RW boards. Move it around and keep firing.

Trading him for a player that we don't need at all is horrible asset management.</div></div>
Don’t get me wrong I really like Coronato, but for the purpose of my idea it had to be something that gets Arizonas attention. (That is the only reason I include him). I would also consider Pelltier and 2023 1st, but don’t know if that’s enough to get their attention.

Weegar is naturally a very strong puck moving defenseman, as the year goes on him and Tanev will gain synergy. 5 games is not remotely enough to draw a conclusion on 2 players who have never really even met before</div></div>
Fair enough, maybe I set the bar too high for Weegar to integrate smoothly. I just don’t see a problem with having an embarrassment of riches on d when the path there is not far fetched.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>No at all a need. This would be a complete waste of assets</div></div>
To be clear I know that it is not a need. Without Kyl on the roster, as good as Stone has been, the mix of the group hasn’t looked as good as I thought it would.
Hannifin and Anderson are a very solid pair.
Tanev is a great shut down defender who compliments an offensive minded d man; however to my eye Weegar hasn’t looked that good with him. I think someone like Chych would be incredible beside Tanev.
Weegar is a guy that can balance out big Z.
Again I understand it’s not a need but Tre has a lot of history with Arizona and could possibly win that trade for us. If Coronato projects as good as people think on here. Maybe it’s Coronato a D prospect who’s close like Mackey and the 2023 1st.
I just think the d group as a whole needs to clean it up, and guys like Chych don’t come around that often

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KingofRnR</b></div><div>At one point I'd have considered Hanifin for Chychrun straight up, but there's no point in breaking up the Hanifin-Andersson oairing and Chychrun isn't necessarily an upgrade, so he's certainly not worth giving up a top asset for in addition to Hanifin
Gauthier can be had for less or for Prospects we're ready to move on from
Rooney was brought in for a reason and we already have Adam Ruzicka, so I don't see the need for Cody Glass
Milano won't sign for 3 years at that amount</div></div>
Thanks for the feedback.
I would say that Chychrun’s upside is quite a bit more than Hannifin. Point totals over the years are similar, but I think Chych has a bit more nasty to his game, and he has also had to be the guy defensively on a not very good team. Hani has been protected by Tanev and as good as he was offensively last year with Anderson, I think if Chych were in that pairing it makes Andy better. But I see both sides of the argument.
I think Ruzie would do good to have one year as the number 1 center in the AHL with Pelts on one wing and Any one of Duehr, Klapka, Beck, or Shwindt on the other. That allows you to have a solid 2nd line of Phillips, Zary, and other RW. It allows them to build chemistry together. And get lots of minutes, not a slight on any one of them.

The purpose is not to “fleece” yourself. It is gamble for both teams with two guys who are currently marginal NHLers with potential. The flames are loaded on D, and need to move one, we are short on RH RW/C. So occasionally you need to overpay to get a piece. IMO Nashville is on the outside looking in this year, so an extra pick at the deadline might entice them. I know that you always want to win a trade, but sometimes you have to take a shot in order to win a trade.

Adding Puj to the team is a win win for us I think, would be a great add.
Then just keep Kyl, much better looking D core.
