Oetter would cost more for 8 years and I’m not ready to hand a kid with less than 100 NHL games played that kind of money. Giving JRob four years takes him to UFA I believe. Which would be a huge mistake. Zero chance Faksa gets scratched. If we still have Faksa and Glendening this year Nill should have “stepped down” with Bones

Otter isn’t signing an 8 yr deal for $4.5M. He might sign that for 5, but definitely not 8. We’d have to throw at the very least $7M in front of him for an 8 yr deal.

The only reason he was a scratch was because of our bone head coach. Any other coach would’ve played him over players like Faksa.
Anyhow I’m not defending the value of the trade just pointing that out.

bought out Suter 2023
2023-24 defense:
Lindell - Heiskanen
Harley - Lyubushkin
Kulikov - Hakanpaa
depends a lot on how Harley performs next season
though another option could be moving Faksa instead of buying out Suter

Dallas desperatly needs players on their ELC until we unload (one way or another) the contracts of Benn and/or Seguin.</div></div>
what do you think Hintz gets? or Robertson for that matter? I made a test for 2023-24 and was able to make it work with Hintz at $7.5m, Robertson at $8m and Huberdeau at $9.5m-- but I could even see giving Robertson a 3 year bridge deal around $7m which would expire the same time Benn's does, freeing up a lot of cap space.

Put Glendening in the Barrie deal. Need three scoring lines. Run Namestnikov-Faksa-Kivi for the fourth line. Put Benn and Segs on different lines. Dellandrea, Damiani, Johnston, Bourque… You won’t convince me one won’t be ready to make an impact if put in a position to succeed. If Holtby can stay healthy I’m fine with keeping him but I don’t trust anything we’ve got in the A so I think Wedge is a better bet. I like the Marchment add

I would buy him out in the heart beat but Nill aint doing that. He threw a lot of money and a nmc at him. But if a coach is smart, he will slot him on the third pair with second PP and PK units.

Depends who you ask. I kinda agree that TOR won't be moving Matthews for this cheap but honestly DAL would never offer 7 years of Heiskanen for practically anyone. Not even two years of Matthews.

I understand why you would want that but the whole point was to get rid of Tavares' and his cap hit. Rather keep JT or just retain more money to dump him for free over taking back a contract that's 2 years longer for a worse player.

but when he played this year he was electric! and both injuries where minor and he is healthy this offseason.
I agree though burns for Benn or Seguin for karlsson both with retention so neither team pays any more cap than before the trade.

To get Bertuzzi one of those three would have to be part of the return, otherwise it just doesn't make sense for Detroit. Totally get it if Dallas wouldn't want to go down that road.

Stars would save money retaining Wedgewood, and probably get more value from a potential Gurianov trade trying to replace Klinger or pursuing another scoring forward.

He had an amazing 7 game series, no doubt, but young goaltenders at 23 rarely get more than 3 mil. If Stars go 8 years, sure, 5 mil seems likely. But not on a 2 year bridge.
Stranges may not be ready, and that's ok. Just slotting in a prospect who can make the jump. Not necessarily Stranges.</div></div>
He's put up identical (if not, slightly better) numbers to Vasilevskiy during his first couple of seasons (the 2 years before his bridge deal). Vasilevskiy was seeing $3.5M per year. With the cap growth between then and now, Oettinger is looking at a $4M+ contract for a bridge deal.

Stranges isn't ready for the NHL & Oettinger will see more money. Bishop trade doesn't make sense for Dallas either. He's on LTIR until he retires, so he doesn't hit the Stars cap hit at all.

Sequin would b a 2nd line RW with the sharks and have a solid cast around him and Karlsson would be going to a Dallas Stars team in win now mode.
Kind of feel both players would agree to this move.
other option is Ben for Burns, Burns is older but still producing at a high level and again both deals are 3 years so it kinda works.</div></div>
Yes i think Dallas and SJ are the perfect change of scenery trade partners. Burns/Karlsson -- Seguin/Benn. I would prefer Seguin over Benn. Rumors are Dallas is not on Burns NTC and Karlsson would probably go becuase of Zero tax Texas. I would also think Dallas is closer to a long playoff run then SJ so that should not be a barrier for Karlsson unless he is retired in his mind already,
