Easy, Getzlaf is the one who'll be getting away with cross-checking guys across the back of the neck. At least he did AGAINST the Oilers. :squinty
How would you like to see that 3rd line bearing down on you? Holloway 6'1" 205lbs; Getzlaf 6'3" 228lbs; Kassian 6'3" 211lbs!! And they have skill! Sign me up!

Other than the goalie trade, I think it's pretty feasible. I actually think Columbus might do that trade, but I don't think the Oilers would. The Oilers need a better goalie than Korpisalo, and there's plenty of goalies on the market again this year.

He won't take $4M. Not a chance. $5M x 2 maybe. Anything less and he'll change his mind about playing somewhere else. He could get $6 x 2 or even 3 yrs easily to play elsewhere.

Would the Oilers have beaten the Jets with this roster
Dude.. it's too painful to look backwards. Gotta look forward. ^^ Anyway, the salary figure tells you that team could never have existed. I certainly hope they could've beaten WPG with a $105M team! They could have beaten them with their current roster.
NEXT YEAR WILL BE BETTER! JUST WAIT AND SEE.

Not a bad take overall. The Oilers might do that DeBrusk deal. Not sure about the Monahan deal. Don't think Calgary bites for prospects. I think you might be a million shy on Rask, especially on a short-term. I think Ritchie and Reilly get slightly more as well... but you have room to get it all done.

There's no way Krejci stays for $4M for 1 year. A ton of other teams would snap him up at that price. He'll make at least 5 or more and minimum 2 or more years.

Not saying it won't happen, but I can tell you Russell played ahead of Kulikov in the last playoff game. Kulikov makes too many 5-alarm mistakes. Tipp trusts Russell. Also, Russell has made it pretty clear that he would prefer to stay in Alberta or at least Western Canada/US as he has a ranch in southern Alberta. Has said he would retire if he can't play close to home. Not saying he couldn't change his mind, but just some local intel for you.
Bouchard is RD so that doesn't factor in. They won't play him on the left side. Broberg needs at least most or all of next year in the AHL before he'll be ready. He was a healthy scratch in the playoffs in Sweden.

Don't know Philly well enough to comment on most of it, but Ennis would be a good pickup. Small but gritty, can play all over the lineup. Don't think the Oilers would do the Russell trade (certainly not for a 6th) as he projects to be 3LD next year at a good price point. Dmitri Kulikov might be an alternative LD UFA pickup at ~1M.

Pouliot comes off this year... that money will be spent. Only gain $525 with Turris. And you're not screwed if a RD goes down because Russell can play right side.. so can Koekkoek if they sign him. Lots of left D can play right side because there's way more of them. Don't forget you'll also have to give Puljujarvi a raise.

1.5 x 2 for Koski, so 3M, which will restrict your ability to pay Nurse 7-8M the following year. I'm replacing Bear's 2M with Bouchard at $860K. Oh, and you have the highest scoring D in the NHL. Better asset management.

You're gaining $4.5M in cap space for next year, which allows you to pay Brandon Saad to play with McDavid. I like Bear, but he's a second pairing D at best. Larsson is a better 2RD and Bouchard will be better than Bear at everything in a year or so.

Fair point. I think the Oilers would still expect Mike Smith to play half the games unless Driedger gets hot. I agree Florida's defense is good, maybe better then Edmonton, but the Oilers were top 10 in goals against and 7th in team save%. Their team defense isn't bad and will likely improve if Klefbom can return. Driedger is an upgrade on Koskinen, and cheaper.

Just because he puts up points does not mean he is great offensively.
Barrie is the only oilers defenseman over the last 3 seasons to QB PP1 and spend over 50% of his ice time at even strength with Mcdavid. Klefbom is the closest thing the oilers have had to a top pairing D over the last 3 years and he didn't spend much time with Mcdavid at even strength. Barrie is good on the PP, his impact at even strength is the issue. Mcdavid was a lot better when he wasn't with Barrie, which is another sign that they should move on from him
Mcdavid with Barrie: 52.99 % shot share, 55% goals for percentage, 51% expected goals percentage
Mcdavid without Barrie: 58% shot share, 60% goals for percentage, 65% expected goals percentage
Barrie without Mcdavid : 45% shot share, 47% goals for percentage, 44% expected goals percentage
wow, it's almost as if Barrie is a liability at even strength and is carried by the best player in the world.</div></div>
Tunnel-vision sir. I like analytics guys who are able to discuss all sides of the data, not just the numbers that support their argument. Do you think the numbers suggest another defenseman should play with McDavid? If so, who? Is Tippet a bad coach because he continues to play Barrie with McDavid?
You can't rely only on analytics to make decisions on players. It's part of the equation, not the whole thing. How do your analytics explain why no other defensemen who have played with McDavid have been able to post numbers even close to Barrie? If you can't answer that question, the conversation is over.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Isles777</b></div><div>83% of his points have involved one of Mcdavid/draisaitl. And as you can see by his “EV offense” he does not drive play offensively , he just puts up a lot points because he plays with superstars. Points are not a good way to evaluate defenseman.
For example, Devon toews played for the isles last season. He was driving play offensively at an elite level but the isles don’t have a lot of players that are good finishers. He didn’t really put up many points but now this season he’s on the avs and plays with much better forwards. He’s the same offensive player he was last season, his teammates are just better this year.

Great. You found one player in the NHL that backs up your point. You didn't address my point that Barrie has been an elite-level scoring defenseman consistently over his career, albeit with other good players. You also didn't answer my question about why the other defensemen who have played with McD and Drai over the past 5 years haven't put up the same points as Barrie this year.

Why? Explain your take.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Isles777</b></div><div>Well yeah that’s possible - oilers fans better hope another GM is dumb enough to give barrie term. He’s been carried by Mcdavid and draisaitl and he has a ton of secondary assists. I’d bet Bouchard is already better than barrie right now</div></div>
Carried by McDavid and Draisaitl? He's averaged huge numbers over his entire career. Look up his career stats. If McD and Drai carried him why didn't every defenseman who has played with them over the past 5 years posted the same numbers? The facts disprove your argument. The secondary assists argument is laughable. He's a defenseman... most defensemen have a high percentage of secondary assists. Points all count the same.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Isles777</b></div><div>It should actually be between larsson and barrie - the oilers shouldn’t be signing two late 20s D to long term deals. Larsson is a lot better than barrie so he’s the one who should stay - bear and Bouchard are cost controlled and both shouldn’t be traded.</div></div>
Respect your opinion that it should be between Larsson and Barrie (though I disagree), but disagree that Larsson is a lot better than Barrie. Hard to compare them as Larsson is a defensive D with very little offense and Barrie is offensive, and not great defensively. Larsson has been very good this season, but his previous 2 years were inconsistent. I would also note that Larsson has had his best season when he played 2nd pairing minutes rather than top pairing as he did the previous 2 years. Barrie has been consistently in the top D scorers in the league except for one below average year in Toronto. I think most would agree Barrie has been more consistent at what he's best at.

Pretty much all the greats have had a great offensive-defenseman to get them the puck. Bouchard might become that one day, but it'll take a few years. Barrie is that right now. No one else on the Oilers D has this on their resume.

My point was Eakin is not a 3rd line centre... especially on the Oilers roster. McLeod is already a better 3C option than Eakin. If they go after a better 3C it would be someone like Getzlaf or Grandlund, definitely not Eakin.

I don't think the Oilers would even do Neal for Drouin straight up. The money is almost even and Tippet hates floaters. Certainly not a 1st and 2nd pick on top. Crazy. They could get a lower tier team to take Neal for a first round pick alone and get rid of the entire salary. Then use the money to pay a real top 6 LW.

ANA is rebuilding. Bear is solid 2nd pairing D, Marody makes their team middle 6, Koskinen one of the best backups in league and only 1 year at 4.5M. Gibson needs reliever with Miller retired. Oh, and a pick. Might be a slight overpay for a 2RW with 1year left who won't be re-signing.
