I think the idea of the trade by the OP was mainly for Jack Drury. We'd probably flip Haula before the deadline for a pick in this situation

love the idea of going after Domi if he's potentially available, but I gotta say I don't see VGK or MTL being interested in either of the trades

He is good skater but lacks the high end skill that makes smaller players successful at the NHL level. Plus Yzerman likes big defenseman so I just can't picture Bryson in Detroit. Thompson is in his 3rd season as a pro and he has been unable to make 2 different teams Detroit has no interest in completing his hat trick of futility.</div></div>
Samuelsson instead of Bryson? Sounds like still probably not enough, but I'd do it

Sabers trying to get better
I agree wholeheartedly that BUF and TOR are perfect trade partners and should swap F for D, but I don't like the proposed trade at all. Doesn't make sense to move Ullmark

You act like Samuelsson is a bonafide blue chip prospect who is certain to be a top-4 D... he looked pretty bad at the WJC recently. I have only seen him play in-person and on tv a few times, but I haven't been impressed at all (and from prospect report articles I've read on him from The Athletic, neither have they)
Regardless of his value, where does he fit with us long term? Dahlin and Jokiharju are obviously going nowhere. And while we may move one of Risto, Montour, Miller, etc eventually, I'm assuming at least one or two from that group are staying.
Samuelsson is years away from even getting an opportunity to make an NHL impact, all while we waste away Eichel's prime and Dahlin's ELC. I actually think he's one of our most expendable future assets we have currently

I agree no urgency, this trade would likely happen after July 1st when both he and Tage are RFA's
I could up the pick or prospect offered.. I figured 3 futures would be more valuable to DET than AA since they're rebuilding and he's really struggled this year. I'd be willing to change Bryson to Samuelsson or the 4th to a 2nd

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jack_</b></div><div>spending a ton of money on the 4th line and 3rd pair is a huge waste of cap space. okposo is pretty much unmovable unless he goes on ltir and I dont know his contract structure. you could easily replace montour, mccabe and soderberg with guys making under or around 1.5 million. realistically you shouldnt be playing your 4th line more then 6 or 7 minutes and your 3rd pair should be around 15 minutes. just by replacing those 3 guys you free up around 13 million. that gives you more then enough room to sign a guy like kreider</div></div>
If Cozens has to be sent back to juniors, which is unfortunately what I think might happen, Soderberg would have a much more expanded 5v5 role than line 4.
We can get away with overpaying the bottom D pair for one year since Dahlin and Jokiharju will still be on their ELC's. After the 2020-2021 season, I'd get rid of McCabe, Johansson, and Dell which will free up about 10.5 mil for Dahlin and Joki. Borowiecki/Larsson would free up over 3 mil as well.
It can be afforded... that being said, I'm open to trading Montour or Risto for a forward at any time. Just couldn't think of the right trade value and we're not in a position where we need to move either of them asap

pass from CBJ imo.. Turris is much older, more expensive cap hit, and has an extra year left over Wennberg. Feels like going from a bad situation to a worse one for CBJ, all for a 2nd rd pick

I know this is all for fun and this offer would never be considered obviously... but i do think you could make an interesting offer if you include Detroit's 2020 1st...
The trade would have to happen by the trade deadline this year... but it's still safe to say that even Eichel wouldn't be able to pull detroit out of last place.
So the Sabres gamble on the lottery by trading Eichel for the 1st, Larkin, Mantha, and Cholowski or something crazy like that.
Never gonna happen, but it's fun to think about. Honestly it'd be more interesting than our current team and situation

Buffalo improvement over the two years
I like both trades actually, as long as our 2020 1st is top-10 protected. Or at least bare-minimum top-3 protected.
I also think Toronto would want a little more from us... maybe a prospect on top of that, maybe a better pick instead of the 4th.
But I'm on the same page here

Right, I should clarify I'm not trying to pretend BUF/TOR is anywhere as big as those are. Toronto is Buffalo's biggest rival and I know the feeling is not mutual. All the more reason to do this

Part of the reason he's been a healthy scratch is because we have too many defensemen ahead of him who are better - Dahlin, Jokiharju, Montour, Risto are all every game starters.
That leaves McCabe, Pilut, Miller, Bogo for the final 2 spots. McCabe plays every night (even though he prob shouldn't) so that's another spot down. Miller would play every night on a lot of teams, he's somewhere between low 2nd/high 3rd pairing with good PP2 level skills too

Rakell isn't Taylor Hall and he only got a conditional first, a conditional 3rd and 2 b-level prospects if you consider Speers and a prospect close to a wash. I think an unconditional 1st, middle pairing dman and a b-level prospect is pretty fair.</div></div>
Hall is a pending UFA, Rakell has one of the best contracts in the league.
I just don't think Anaheim entertains it because Miller is not a big enough headliner piece, the Ducks are still at least a year or two away from competing so I don't think Miller helps them much at the end of the day. Especially if they're giving up a piece as big as Rakell
I think Miller + Tage Thompson for Kase is a more realistic offer to send. I don't think the Ducks will consider moving Rakell unless it's crazy overpayment

I would include Risto and Tage Thompson on the available list as well.
I'm hoping this offseason we try and make a trade like Risto/Montour/Miller + high prospect (Mittelstadt, Thompson, or Samuelsson) for some serious forward help.
