Wild Trade Candidates for 2022-23
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Skyraider112</b></div><div>I wouldn't move Dumba until either Addison or Faber show they are legit. Jost would be someone the Oilers or Kraken would want imo, maybe even Montreal.</div></div>
All indications are they’re not re-signing Dumba so a trade now or at the deadline seems likely. Fan value on Dumba seems much great than actual value for Dumba. BG has tried to trade Dumba for over 2 years and hasn’t found a taker.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Kado777</b></div><div>I wouldn’t mind this at all. I think they could make it work without trading Dumba too. They could sign Strome to a 1 year deal because he doesn’t become an UFA until 2024, wait until the trade deadline and if Strome seems like a longterm fit, sell Dumba and retain half of his cap at the deadline to a contender, or if the Wild are a contender they can ride out the season, but risk Dumba walking. If Strome doesn’t seem like a fit, sell Strome next offseason and resign Dumba. If Strome absolutely goes off and is looking at a bigger contract, they get to decide if they want to sell Strome for a haul or sell Dumba/let Dumba walk and move someone else (maybe Greenway, and put Duhaime in his spot?).
I just see so many opportunities where the Wild could benefit from this kind of trade.</div></div>
Agreed, this would benefit MN. I like the idea of involving Dumba In The deal. Clears more cap and finally gets Addison a spot to earn.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>wabit</b></div><div>If you're MN's GM, I think this is just an offseason where you make your draft picks, sign Middleton, find a goalie, and then go to the beach until camp starts.</div></div>
I think that would be a bad strategy. We were exposed down the middle in the playoffs. If BG’s only upgrade at C is Rossi, then we’re pretenders again.

I bet MN would consider this if they moved Dumba out first. We have to clear cap space first.

Just thinking
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TanSor</b></div><div>There's a lot more to the NHL than tougher competition. Putting guys in the AHL acclimates them to life as a professional hockey player, which by all accounts is drastically different than playing at the collegiate or junior levels. It's less about "sticking him in the AHL no matter what" for me than it is to teach guys to become pro players and develop them both on and off the ice. I get what you're saying, he has that Olympic experience and his game should translate well to the NHL, but I don't see how keeping him in the AHL for a year does him any harm. A lot of what you're saying was also said about Greenway and while Greenway has turned into a decent 3rd line guy, I think a year in the AHL would have done him a ton of good. I just don't see the point in rushing Faber into the NHL. Let him develop and go through the transition phase in Iowa where he can play top pairing minutes and PK duties instead of throwing him on the 3rd pairing and sheltering him for 8-10 minutes a game.</div></div>
Maybe something was lost there. If he’s ready to be an NHL’er, then he should be in the NHL, not the AHL.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TanSor</b></div><div>I dunno, he'll be 20 after next season so personally I'd like to let him marinate for a year in the AHL. But eventually, yeah, he'd be in the discussion.</div></div>
I think they’ll make him start in the AHL for sure, but I bet he comes up mid season. His defense is so damn good, add in the skating too. The offense will lag behind but it’ll catch up eventually. Not all age 20 guys are the same, Faber has done a lot at a high level already, he feels more advanced than a normal kid his age, but that’s just my opinion. I don’t think it makes sense to stick him in the AHL for a year no matter what, feels like if he does well down there, he should get the call up.

I’ve gotta think Faber factors into the discussion the season after Dumba’s gone too. Maybe not break camp with big squad but a call up. Russo was speculating BG and the scouts think Faber is close to NHL ready now.

I watch damn near every game, he’s a liability in his own zone. Terrible gap control, awful TOs, and out of position constantly. Brodin saves his ass damn near every shift.

I also think that Guerin might jump through more hoops to keep Dumba.</div></div>
He’s tried to trade Dumba for 2+ years, why do you think he’d jump through hoops to keep him? I think it’s the opposite. And you called Dumba a shutdown D???? 🧐🧐🧐 I’m sorry but that couldn’t be further from the truth

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Pierre_from_Orleans</b></div><div>I am honestly not sure. The Toews trade is a complete fleece job done by the Avalanche but then you look at deals like the Risto trade to Philly, and consensus (224-10 according to the trade poll) would say Philly got fleeced.
I tried looking at other comparables but there just aren't many. You have the Jones trade, but Jones is a higher profile, has a higher ceiling in my opinion, than Dumba. And on the low end there is the Ryan Ellis, trade where none of the players involved played much this year (Ellis - 4gp, Myers - 27gp, Patrick 0gp for Preds, Glass 8gp).
So to answer your question, maybe a low end prospect, 3rd round pick value? It's hard to gauge a value on Dumba, although Ottawa is a good dance partner as there is a gaping hole on the top 4 RD.</div></div>
Yeah, I was having a hard time comparing trades as well. I think they’d rather have the two 2nds than a prospect and a 3rd. Russo is saying the Wild want more 2023 top 100 picks, so maybe that’s what they target.
I agree, Ottawa feels like a good fit. He’d be back home in Canada and probably signs a reasonable extension there. I bet if Ott offered 6-7 mil per he’d take that.

That’s fair. If the ask wasn’t too much I’d take a chance on him. I’d also be looking for a way to get Mittelstadt but that seems less likely. I have a feeling if BG moves Dumba he’ll try and use that money for a C.

It's going to be interesting to see what he is looking for in a contract though. Somewhere between $6 and $7M I think would be decent, especially after last offseason with Jones and Nurse signing close to 10.</div></div>

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NDoody</b></div><div>I wouldn't use the Toews trade as a comparison. that was one of the most lopsided trades in recent history, sakic bent the islanders over on that one.
That said 2 2nds would be a great deal to get Dumba for the Sens. Not sure if they would do it thou as he is likely due for a big raise and the Sens have to sign Stuzle and then Sanderson coming as well as potentially sign another top 6 Winger for good money so not sure if it makes cap sense to get him unless he wants to resign again for 6 or 7 mill long term.</div></div>
I think that’s a good comp though, because of the cap space restrictions. But you’re right, it does look real bad now.
I’d guess Dumba wants 6+ million.
Tbh I’d be happy with this return. I don’t see him re-signing in MN and I see his replacement in Addison / Faber.

And Rossi as a W? It sounds like they’re going to let him try and stick at C. If they move him to wing without giving him a chance at C I’ll be pissed. We did that with so many C prospects in the past.
I’d be shocked if L1 wasn’t Kaprisov- Hartman-Zuc to start the year. It could certainly change if they don’t produce. Hartman was pretty terrible in the playoffs.

Statement to Wild Fans
“Despite the Wild’s deep pool of blue-line prospects, Calen Addison is the only one who shoots from the right side, although the team recently signed right-shot 2018 fifth-round pick Simon Johansson. Faber’s addition now gives the Wild insurance if this is Matt Dumba’s final year with the team. Dumba can become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2023. This is possibly a big reason the Wild didn’t prioritize adding a center or forward in general over a right-shot, potential Dumba replacement like Faber”

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Pierre_from_Orleans</b></div><div>I 100% agree, the deal was fair and Minny got a good prospect back in Faber. He should be a top 4 defensive defenceman, might not be elite, but that is not a slight, that is just really tough to do.
I'll agree to disagree on the fan aspect, there were more Wild fans thinking they'd get a significantly better return then this.
On the trade though, I think Fiala fits really well in LA as well, doesn't have to be the leader with Kopitar there and he can just play his game.</div></div>
Yeah, it’s real tough to get an elite Dman, and those don’t move often in trades. I think he profiles as a Brodin type of defenseman, I’ll take that any day.
Yeah, I’d say I fell into that category at one time. Once Russo started saying R1 pick and a good prospect, I started coming around to a lesser return. It ain’t easy to do though. I know many Wild fans and not many are disappointed with this return. I’ll be curious to see what some *fan polls say. I’m sure those will be coming haha.
Fiala is going to put up 100+ points with Kopitar. I loved watching Fiala every night, but the cap is the cap.

If I was GM, I’d accept, but BG recently said on KFAN that “the only thing I know is Cam will be back, he’s under contract”. Maybe that’s GM speak, we’ll see. I think this is a strong offer though. We may just ask for a 3rd round pick and keep our 4th.
