he only goes to free agency if he feels that will make him more money. this isn't anything like the taveras situation. if the devils offered 8 years at 12 mill he signs it.

i like the deal, win for both teams. can't have enough prospects. Deangelo is the odd man out on the right side with keane and and lundvist coming up in the next couple of seasons.

i agree. if they can get something similar to what they got for grabner it would be a huge victory. teams definitely will be calling about him at the trade deadline.

this would be a big mistake by ny. unless they r certain the pick is top 10 this trade would be so risky. miller is an important part of their rebuild.

RANGERS FANS- what do you think
regardless of what many ranger fans say about Strome, the guy is a good player. i wouldn't mind resigning him depending what his asking price it. Strome would be a good fit on any team, he is solid on the pk, plays a 200 foot game and with the rite line mates he can put some points up. van would like him, and for a 2nd round pick they would be happy with him.

brooks says staal has a nmc, i believe him over anyone. if i was the oilers i would want more then andersson, idk. i'm not a big andersson fan. that trade wouldnt shock me, could be good for both players and teams. i like the kreider trade for the rangers, idk if the avs would do it, they seem tight on giving up first round picks which i think will be a must to get kreider

or at least play the poor kid more then 9mins a game! i believe he can handle it. lias game isn't 2c material, imo. i watched a ton of his games last season in hartford. he was very good but its going to be hard for him to score in this league. i've never seen 'great vision' from him.

i respectfully disagree. a late second round pick and a c- prospect for kreider and Lindgren would be very upsetting. to me, Lindgren is worth keeping. if the sharks make a deal with the nyr they have to give up a 1st for kreider.

the rangers arent a good fit for Merkley. the team has trouba nd fox, they are the reason y deangelo wont be here in the future.
additionally, the last thing the sharks needs is another d man who can score. they are pretty loaded on rd players that can play the pp

Tryin again
i don't think either team would make the trade, but as a rangers fan i would love if it happens the way your hoping ;).
Ehlers has a good contract, trading him for kreider who is a lot older then him and is going to ask for a contract that will probably be around 1 mill more a season. kreider is a very good player, but i dont think they will get a Ehlers type player back for him. would be great, but im thinking more of a return that hayes brought back. maybe a pitch more.
names isn't worth anything, there i said it. u all can hang me now for it lol. storme has value, but i would keep him. very good bottom 6 player.

My lineup
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jimbo1119</b></div><div>Agreed...that a BIG reason Smith is playing is to supplement the PK...I would rather roll with him as 7D then just for that...rotate a real forward through RW4...and maybe they'll get something out of the 4th line. Being that they are 2-0 and the PK has been very good- I guess you can say Smith isn't killing us...and even if you think he has gained a step- everytime I see him try to carry the puck up the ice - to me he seems like he's trying to push a truck tire...add to that minimal offensive skill. I'm sorry- but this team needs more than a "clear the zone guy" on the 4th line.</div></div>
lets try not to overthink the 4th line players. these guys play maybe 5 mins a night of 5 on 5. sometimes even less.

My lineup
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Spanky227</b></div><div>Disagree on this-- Smith on the 4th line is fine, he's done an admiral job on the fore check and looks like he's gained a step since joining the rangers. Plus, he is doing pretty well on the PK logging over apprx 7 pk minutes and only being on for one goal (a deflection that couldn't really be helped). He hasn't registered a giveaway in two games AND has two PK points so that's a plus. Once Hajek is ready to take over some PK time, yes he should be scratched... but Hajek is still gaining his footing in the NHL, it'll be better to let him develop a bit more before putting him in that position.</div></div>
i wonder if smith got paid 1-1.2mill a season instead of 4 mill the fans would actually like him. taking his contract out of it, he isn't hurting the team playing on the 4th line. better off with smith then haley.
having that said, i wish him and his contract weren't on the team lol

Lines after cuts today
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>lamar1226</b></div><div>I may be wrong but I think that the main concern with him is his development as a centerman. he barely took faceoffs last year and there are just better players in the faceoff circle and defensively than he is right now. he will be an early call up I believe.</div></div>
i see his career path looking similar to jt miller. which isn't a bad thing. miller was drafted as a center, struggled some early on but ended up being good. i think chytil 2 way game is better. miller was a liability often.

Lines after cuts today
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Spanky227</b></div><div>Haley is a 13th forward that won't get playing time.. in terms of Chytil and Kravtsov-- it makes sense to have them in the AHL.
Chytil:
- He is absolutely atrocious at faceoffs
- Bad in the defensive zone
- Horrible pre-season performance
Result: he needs to learn how to play center in the AHL. The rangers could only use him at wing, but they need him to be a center long term. Give him a year to develop at the position in the AHL.
Kravtsov:
- Played well enough in preseason to play top 9
- Due to rangers current roster makeup and predictions, would be playing a 4th line role
- Rangers have to build up the value of Strome (rfa), Namestnikov (UFA), Fast (UFA) who are most likely gone by the TDL
- You have three top 50 prospects in the entire NHL in the AHL between Chytil, Kravtsov and Sheshterkin (arguably top 25). With the additions to Hartford, they should no longer be a bottom feeder. Let Chytil and Kravtsov build chemistry together and they could be in the top 6 come trade deadline (if kreider/strome/namestnikov are traded).
Result: Better to get top pairing minutes in AHL while adjusting to the smaller rink size instead of 4th line minutes</div></div>
i'm 35 and been watching nhl hockey since i was 10 and ahl hockey since i was 25. Kravtov playing in the ahl is a very good decision, he should be called up when they feel he can play real mins. but chytil being sent down isn't a good sign. chytil isn't worse then last season, the competition in camp isn't harder then last season. the problem is chytil hasn't gotten better from last season. 14 mins a game in the nhl is better for his development then 20 mins a game in the ahl. chytil is in a much different situation then kravtov, chytil got sent down because quinn doesn't think he is good enough to play on the team.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>lamar1226</b></div><div>Absolutely agree. People are getting over the top upset but this makes the most sense. Chytil has to learn to battle harder and control the puck as well he loses it too easily every time. I would think Howden should be sent down since he has been atrocious defensively as well and doesnt fit in for the bottom 6 which is where he will most likely play.</div></div>
i totally agree that chytil did not deserve to make the team. having him play the entire season in the ahl might be a mistake. as an 18 year old he was very good in the ahl, he should be a point per game player now.
I didn't think Howden was bad all pre-season. i really like the kid, he is deserving of making the team.

toronto gave up a 1st for a contract that was a little over 6mill on the books and 4mill in salary after the buy out on a 1 year deal. the value seems very fair to me. i would think boston would be very interested in this trade. idk if the rangers are looking to add 6 mill to the cap next season. its interesting though.

Opening Night
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>lamar1226</b></div><div>I would be shocked too but I think it would be the right thing to do for now. In the long run they could gain a ton of confidence back from (hopefully) dominating AHL players and getting a ton of minutes, instead of playing marginal minutes on the 3rd/4th line.
EDIT: Also could have said the same thing for Andersson last year with Chytil making it over him, but look at him now. He has played extremely well in every preseason game Ive watched
Look at the lines for us as well, they all make sense.
1st Line extremely high offensive potential
2nd Line high offensive potential with a bit of physicality
3rd Line high defensive potential with physicality and offensive potential
4th Line immense physicality and pestering players who will stand up for other players
I fail to see how Howden, Kravtsov and Chytil will fit in the 3rd or 4th line</div></div>
I'm personally a big Howden fan. i think he has more value to the team in the nhl then ahl. its just not a good sign for chytil and howden development if they can't make the team. the rangers have a handful of good forwards but its not like the competition to make the team is crazy hard. the players that would be beating them for a spot aren't anything special.
