Also you as a Nashville fan know all about him but I’d recommend putting Trenin in for all your NJD ACGMs. I feel he’d be a great target to provide defense, physicality, and penalty killing.
And maybe Warren Foegele too. His speed is a need in jersey imo

Why sign Pesce only to yeet him to Chicago? If they sign him they'll keep him. They didn't just extend Lemieux to dump him in San Jose.
The Anaheim trade is laughable. Vatrano has one year shooting at 13%, scoring at a rate he's never shown he can score at before, <strong>and he's suddenly worth one of the most dymanic play driving young centermen in the NHL?</strong></div></div>

Gonna be interesting how Kahkonen does in Jersey. His stats may be bad due to playing for the Sharks. He was outstanding in the Leaf game in San Jose. Believe there were over 50 shots on him and lost in overtime. He might find a UFA home Jersey, and nix any Ullmark and Markstrom talk.

Where's he going to finish in Selke voting this year? Definitely not the top 4 or 5, even top 10. Should we expect his defensive game to come back after it has fallen apart this season? Not at 35+ years old. Basically in signing Liljegren for so little money you've removed any incentive that might exist for the Leafs to move him. They could just sign him to a similar amount, put him on a 3rd pair, and hope for the same jump in his game you are.

Tavares and Stall, both don't waive their NMC.
Tavares may be declining, but he isn't THAT bad, and is still a capable 2C. He's and so many others are why I am so hesitant to having big $$$ contracts for players into their mid thirties. When the wall hits, it can be severe.

Biggest Canes homer on this site is posting Leaf trade proposals every day; they never make sense for the Leafs but that is not the purpose. Like lots of others on here - he has realized that no team generates traffic like Leafs Nation. So even ridiculous proposals generate 👀 if you attach the Leafs logo. Tavares' deal itself sucks, but getting out from under half of it for the year and having the assets provided to go and get a RD to fill the void was the logic.</div></div>
The self justification nonsense in this post is mind blowing. JT scored the OT winner to send the Leafs to the 2nd round last season. You know you are coming out with a massive win here. Being that your are the biggest canes homer on the planet you never make a move unless it's a landslide win. This is definitely that.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caniac2000</b></div><div>Staal only makes 2.9, and does everything Tavares does. Retaining means you get the extra 1st and A- prospect to get a RHD man. Toronto gets scoring depth, something that's been a serious problem, and the assets to move for a Dman. The only difference this trade makes is that you have multiple, better depth pieces on cheaper deals, and pays for the RD you need. There's no cap space for the Leafs if they keep Tavares anyway, so this does nothing but helps them was the idea</div></div>
It doesn't pay for anything. 5.5 in retention plus staals 2.9 plus fast 2.4 equals 10.8 million, 200k less than Tavares makes

So the Leafs trade a 1B/2C for an old, replaceable 3/4C and no cap space? They aren't "out from under" anything if they gain 0 cap space. Make it make sense.

These trades make no sense for the Leafs. Retaining 5.5 on Tavares and taking on bad contracts screws them. How would they be able to replace him with no cap space? And affordable RD that can play then you're in your windows, they don't dump those for futures.

Nash only has one retention slot left. I don't know if we'll use it on McD. I think what'll happen is he just plays out his contract here as a mentor for our young players. Unless somebody wanted to pay a premium for his whole contract.</div></div>
Understandable. I’d give a lot of credit for Nashvilles success this year (which has even more impressively come in spite of what has been a down year for Saros) to Brunette. NJD 100% should have kept him.
McDonagh was always EXCELLENT. So good that he managed to convince people Dan girardi was a Norris caliber dman.
Even as he slowed down he was always good, just not great anymore, nice to see the resurgence this year
Defensively responsible, puck moving Dman is what NJD needs on the left side, as well as some help on the PK. How’s the skating look for him? Has he lost a lot of a step or just a minor regression?
