Great team. Only question mark is the goalies as is usual for Team Canada. Hopefully one of them steps up.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Yojimbo</b></div><div>Saying Fleury is still a 1B is just flat out homerism looking back on him cracking jokes and smiling.
Adding McCann to this trade has literally ZERO to do with getting Granlund.
"Zacha is a great player who has not came close to reaching his potential" um... yep. Being a top 6 pick is irrelevant when you don't live up to it.
The deal that I suggested is still overpay by the Pens, done solely for homers that want Fleury back, at three times the cap hit of DeSmith.</div></div>
Fleury is most definitely a solid 1B. Perhaps the best 1B in the league. There is not a single person in the Pens organization who wouldn`t want to bring Fleury back in that role if the deal made sense. Jarry is still largely unproven. The Pens need to have a backup plan. Casey Desmith is not that plan. You can`t seriously argue that bringing Fleury in for 2 years in a backup/1B role would not be beneficial for this team.
Yes it does. Moving McCanns cap hit allows the Penguins to sign Granlund. Simple addition and subtraction my guy.
Zacha "not living up to his potential" is a little extreme. He has not been put in a position to succeed in Jersey. How many times has this happened to players like him? High draft pick with loads of potential gets a new home and BOOM all of a sudden he is a star. He is a great player. No way around it. Also, Pens don`t need him to score 40 goals. They have plenty of players for that. They need speed and offensive contribution from the 3rd line. He is more than capable of doing that. His 6 3 200+ frame isn`t bad either. He doesn`t use it as much as he should, but again that could change in Pitt under Sullivan.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PGHBOB69</b></div><div>Do u hate McCann?? Lol. McCann is a potential 20 goal scorer man. Scored 19 in 18-19 and 14 last year in a shortened season and a big slump at the end of the seaon and was playing C where he doesn’t belong. And is only 24 years old. And on a very good deal for a 20 goal scorer.</div></div>
No, McCann is fine. He is an average middle 6 forward. Doesn`t really bring any gamebreaking elements. He is expendable because there are plenty of forwards in the league like him. His contract is fine. It isn`t a "steal" but it also isn`t dragging the team down. I think moving him in this deal makes the team better. I don`t care if he is 20, 24, 28 or 37. This team is all in the next two years. Anything else does not matter.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pharrow</b></div><div>I have.
ZAR is not a 3rd liner. You moved Rust out of his top 6 role to play Kovalchuk. Ugh... Lets leave rusty where he is.
Then you replaced McCann with Granlund, who's older, on a one year deal, and probably bolts at the end of the season if he can find more money. Se we gave up our only 3rd line player on the roster for basically nothing. McCann is only 24, and wrapped up, and he keeps getting better.</div></div>
Few things.
1. ZAR, if he is able to stay healthy, can be a capable 3rd line player (serving a specific role on the third line which in this case is a physical, defensive specialist to compliment "deficiencies" in Granlund`s game). The alternative is move Blueger to 3C, Rust or Kovalchuk to LW and Granlund to RW. 4th line is then ZAR, Jankowski, Tanev. Could also move Tanev to 3rd line I guess too but I prefer to keep him down the lineup. ZAR has more scoring prowess than Tanev.
2, Kovalchuk is not a top line player anymore but you still have to play him in an offensive role. He doesn`t fit on the 3rd or 4th line. Also Malkin and Kovalchuk are buddies, Kovalchuk does not sign unless he plays on Malkins line and gets PP time, which by the way he would be an awesome fit on the right half wall on PP. Rust is a great player but I still prefer him on third line. His game is more suited for that role and I think his value to the team is greater there.
3. Yes I would love to replace McCann with Granlund. Far superior player with much greater ceiling. Who cares if he leaves after the season. You need to sign Marino and others. Poulin will be ready by then and he can fill that void left by Granlund. This team is all in this year and next. They can find a replacement for McCann and Granlund via trade, FA or in system very easily next year. McCann is a good player. He is a middle 6 forward. Good shot. Fiesty but not very physical. There are plenty of players of his caliber in this league. He is expendable. In this situation he is expendable because the team is significantly upgraded due to these moves.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Eddy</b></div><div>The other teams would not agree to give Pitt Fleury, No. 6 overall pick Zacha and cap space for Desmith, Sceviour and Riikola. Other teams would easily beat that offer. Zacha is a great player who has not came close to reaching his potential. Not many young players are good at faceoffs. Lets say he gets marginally better. Great. You aren`t getting Zacha to win faceoffs. You have Sidney Crosby and Teddy Blueger/Jankowski for that. Pens need a defensively reliable 3rd line center with scoring punch to provide depth scoring. Pens are successful when they have a good 3rd line that can score. Pens are not successful when their bottom two lines are offensive blackholes. Pens have enough defensive minded/physical forwards (Tanev, Jankowski, Aston-Reese, Rust, Blueger).
I would rather have Granlund than McCann.
No, Desmith is not even close to Fleury, even at 36. That`s absurd. Plus Fleury`s impact on teammates alone provides value. Great mentor for Jarry too.
In a real world scenario this is what the trade would have to look like in order to make sense for everyone.
Pens perspective: Solid 1B goalie. Huge boost to team experience, morale and overall team culture. Cap space to sign Granlund, Haula, Chara, Kovalchuk, Perry etc...2nd round pick given up means nothing as they are all in this year and next.
Vegas: Clears cap space without moving one of top players. Gets decent backup. Loses 1st rounder but this team is a contender so they are willing to do so. Gets good center/wing to compliment middle 6.
Devils: Cap space not an issue. Fleury contract will expire as Jack Hughes contract does. In return they get two depth pieces and a 1st and 2nd rounder. They give up Zacha, although a very good player who has yet to reach his potential he is somewhat expendable because NJD have a lot of centers.
This deal works. Could there be small tweaks in order to get it done? Yes but the overall framework makes sense and the value to each team is about on par. You have to consider that the deal also involves Granlund (or whoever else they decide to sign). So giving up the amount that Pitt did in these deals doesn`t matter nearly as much as if they weren`t able to sign anyone. The only team I see saying no to this is NJD because they may want to try and sign someone and they may want to hold on to Zacha. </div></div>

Zacha is not that great of a C. Good defensively, but HORRIBLE at faceoff and not physical. Also, DeSmith might be better on the ice vs Fleury. There is zero reason for Pittsburgh to include McCann.

Love the idea. If it actually happens then Idk.
A few things:
1. Cirelli probably won`t sign for 5 years. Sign him for 5M for 2 years and then he can even be 2C in two years when it`s likely Malkin is gone.
2. Tampa probably chooses to keep Cirelli and trade others. If they can`t do that then this is possible. But I think it`s likely the Pens would have to give a bit more to entice them to do this deal instead of trading someone else.

Player wise there really isn`t a fit. But if the Pens are just strictly looking to shed cap to sign a UFA or two like Granlund/Haula/Chara etc...then I think they would do it for a 2022 2nd and 2021 3rd
Would be a good fit in SJ as 3C. Really the only hole in this lineup. That and maybe question marks in goal.

No you are...Because once again. You are not just getting Zacha and Zetterlund. You are also getting Granlund and Chara from the freed up cap space. It`s pretty simple man.
Also you are not going to get any better than that trade...especially right now. Plus this trade makes sense for both teams and fits both teams needs. Zacha would be a great 3rd line center for Pitt.
Think of it this way...Is this team better off from these transactions? The answer is yes. And if you disagree with that then you clearly don`t understand basic hockey management.

Yes, I get that. But I would argue that MP does not provide very much of an upgrade, if any at all, at moving the puck. Faster, yes but the Pens have enough speed on the back end and in their forward group to compensate. Plus, you are not swapping MP and Chara. You are swapping them and adding Zacha/Granlund as well.
I think it`s as simple as this. Ask Sullivan, GMJR, Crosby, Malkin, Letang, Mario and anyone else in the Pens organization if they would want to have Chara on their team. The answer from everyone would be hell yeah we do. Make it happen.

No. But simple addition and subtraction sees the team transactions as:
Substracted: McCann, MP and Sceviour
Added: Chara, Granlund, Zacha, Zetterlund.
This team is better from these moves.
The results of the free cap space from the trade allow for the additions of Chara and Granlund. So yes, while they weren`t "traded for" they were still added to the team as a result of a trade. The specifics don`t matter. They were added in FA for nothing.

*If they can sign Granlund that is something to consider because signing Chara is a big if too. But I disagree, I would still take Chara over MP *for 1 year. He impacts the game in ways that very few players ever have in the history of the sport. MP is an adequate top 4 dman. Nothing special offensively or defensively. He would do better in a more proficient role somewhere else. He isn`t going to be an offensive catalyst in Pitt or a tough, shut down D. Pens would be better off with Chara in a clear cut defensive, PK , leadership role.
