How desperate are you? LOL
For the record it was only Hill & Barbashev. Hill signed for $4.9M x 2 & Barbashev signed for $5M x 5. My analysis was far closer to reality than this manure you call a lineup(I literally nailed Barbashev)!
You have P.O.J scratched, Petry going to a team that's trying to unload aging D $ not take more on, Hanafin taking a meager raise 1 yr from UFA status & $/term are all wrong on Bunting/Shattenkirk/Sprong... You're a clown!

There's a lot of ifs in this thread that no team is going to pay $19.5M cash + lose their best offensive player + retain $23M in cap to just guess on. This is simply a bad trade proposal. Karlsson would veto this trade in a heartbeat too. He wants to contend, not be in trade rumors again next summer.

Has a player ever been traded and the teams throw down a reverse UNO card after the season like you're suggesting with Granlund? LOL
BOS would get a better haul on Hall & Ullmark!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>worldwidesensei</b></div><div>It's a lot of money, for sure. SJS screwed themselves by signing him for that much money for that long. $23M << $46M. We can understand that right? Spending $46mm for a player that doesn't help them get to the playoffs (no player will, the roster is old and overpaid) doesn't make much sense. SJS will need to retain at least a good portion of the contract in order to move him.
The Burns trade is a good reference point.
Burns (34% retained) + Pederson <> Lorentz + Makiniemi + 3rd
SJS got hosed. Karlsson may fetch a bit more, but most teams just cannot fit his contract at almost any dollar amount. He's just not worth that much despite winning another Norris.</div></div>
Burns has $2.7M cap retention on a front loaded $8M deal. He was the cheapest of the 3 highly paid Dmen in SJ that they had to move, hence Burns being moved 1st.

Someone still has to pay half his salary. That's real money, not just his cap hit that SJS can eat while they tank.
When you add up the player you're getting(Norris winning elite playmaking Dman with 4 years left + $23M in cap retention + $19.5M in actual paid salary) this proposal just isn't enough. There is no one mentioned coming from BUF that is a lock to be excited about!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sharcuda22</b></div><div>Karlsson controlling where he goes limits his value, as does the length of his contract, as does his injury record. The comment to which I first replied to you in said this was a good proposal but sharks would probably prefer to take Savoie if they could because I know they were high on him at the 2022 draft. Also because you could not grasp the sarcasm in the last reply I was not actually talking about a 1st overall pick. This offer is both in line with what the sharks asked for before in the meier deal, and just about the best return the sharks could hope to get in the circumstances.</div></div>
You can't seem to grasp what the ask for is to retain $23M... They don't pay that in Monopoly money!

Savoie isn't even in the trade proposal LOL. Tell me 1 person in this trade proposal that comes anywhere close to a #1 draft pick? You're completely speculating on all players but the 1 player who is actually considered an NHLer. The 13th overall pick has value. Ostlund still has value but no NA pro experience. Luukkonen isn't turning any heads, he's struggling(SJS would be asking for Levi). Jokiharju is a depth Dman forced to play top mins who's had a lot of injury history for a 24 year old who's underperformed. The 2024 2nd rd pick wouldn't get you 1 year of $5.75M retained let alone 4 years equaling $23M!
The Meier trade isn't comparable at all! He had 1 year remaining before a qualifying offer of $10M which was the reason he was traded. Karlsson is very likely winning the Norris, has 4 years remaining and wants to go to a CONTENDER! He has control of where he goes!

This trade has zero no doubt star power in return for SJS. "with potential" isn't a great trade chip! SJS will be looking for young stars they can build around, not players with questionable futures.

I am not a San Jose or Buffalo fan - I am trying to be as impartial as possible.
San Jose is AT LEAST 5 years away from competing. Prospects and picks should be what they go for. They get a lot of quality picks and prospects and some decent young players here.</div></div>
What you're not understanding is that all those players and picks wouldn't be enough to just retain the 23 Million let alone get EK too... it's 23 Million and you're acting like it's no big deal LOL.
The list is pretty short for teams that can even afford to take on a player like EK, let alone be a team he'd be willing to waive to go to.
SJS will inevitably need to eat cap but what you've suggested is the kind of deal that gets ppl fired instantly!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TMLBRIAN</b></div><div>I think people are going to be surprised how little San Jose will get back for Karlsson. At 11.5m a year I think ZERO teams would take him for free. That's my hot take.
Only 3-4 teams would take him at 9m a year. So even then his value wont be crazy.
At 7.5m he starts becoming very desirable and that's where I see his value really starting to take off.
Now if San Jose decides to do a full 50% retention, that's where they will get a serious haul for him. This right here is a very solid haul. Prospects are always questions marks. San Jose should be accumulating as many question marks as possible.</div></div>
Eating 23 Million & giving up a Norris winner for a bunch of unproven players????... Get real!

Better off keeping Foegele IMO. Showed he can elevate for the playoffs. He's a guy you want to keep! They need to elevate his responsibility and see what he can really do. I'd love to see him next to RNH on the 3rd line for most of the year tbh but they should try him on the 2nd line whenever possible.
Bjugstad/Brown/Toews aren't signing that cheap! Bjugstad's value is at his highest since he was in FLA, he's looking to get paid! Brown for 1 yr at $2M sounds more likely.
Why would Perry consider leaving TBL to come to EDM? He'd prob sign a 775k deal there rather than a 1.5M deal in EDM.
Kostin & McLeod have Arb rights. Will prob both go to arbitration.
