<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dannibalcorpse</b></div><div>not the right deal for Dobson. First, he's probably as untouchable as any Islander (save maybe Sorokin) at this point - he's a 22 year old RHD scoring . He's a legit two-way threat who's actually outscored Brock Boeser this year (42 pts vs 38 for Brock) and would immediately slide in as RD1 next to Quinn Hughes, so I get why Vancouver would want him.

But this return isn't good. Boeser is a few years older and already making $5.875M this season and due for an RFA raise this summer. He's definitely at a lower value than he would have been a year ago after his least productive season in the NHL, which makes for a riskier proposition on that contract.

The rest of the trade doesn't get anywhere near what you'd need to make up in the difference in value between Dobson &amp; Boeser. I'd rather take Josh Bailey's 2x$5M left on his deal than Poolman's 3x$2.5M - at least Bailey can be somewhat productive offensively. Rathbone is actually older than Dobson and hasn't forced his way past a team running out guys like Travis Dermott, Brad Hunt, &amp; Kyle Burroughs on the bottom pair, so it's hard to get *too* excited about him. DiPietro looks like an OK goalie prospect, but I don't know if the Islanders are emotionally ready for another DiPietro between the pipes. Throwing in Bellows &amp; a 4th and having the only pick coming back be a 1st is the last nail in the coffin for me on this deal - not enough meat on the bone to get Dobson, not nearly enough at all.</div></div>

The part about Rathbone, the only reason he hasn't come in is due to OEL and Quin on the left so we don't need him getting limited minutes on the main team when he can be the guy on the AHL team, and considering Rathbone is top 10 in points by AHL defenseman while playing 30 games compared to 60, he has the highest p/pg for all D in the AG, if it weren't for that dangerous hit a couple months back he would most likely be leading the AHL in D-man scoring. He is also considered a top 50 prospect.
