2018: Draft of the Canadiens
I love these fantasies that get half of the 1st round pick.
Five Stars my friend.
You know I wonder if Montreal were to sign a couple of the UFA centers (Bozok, Stastny, Nash, Filppula, ETC.) with a healthy Price and Weber it is back in the playoffs and one of the better NHL teams. With top 3 defenseman and GK out for most of the season, of course the team will look bad. As a Sabres' fan, I know Hasek made a good AHL team look good every night.

I agree with all of that but Price is in MTL to stay buddy, like it or not. But it's time to go young and draft alot i agree on that, the habs have the worst prospect pool in the NHL no joke, even the pens who been trading their picks and drafting late have a better future than we do, its pathetic really ;S

Kadri the head hunter
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DeadGuy63</b></div><div>Midway through the third last night Chara, Wingels, and Martin were against the boards fighting for the puck. Martin was in a Boston sandwich and ate an elbow from Wingels and then got caught up in Martins stick falling to his knees. Kadri comes in and hits Wingels making him the middle of a Kadri boards sandwich. Kadri does have a history with hits to the head. Should he be suspended for this hit?</div></div>
Your autocorrect might be messing with things, it was Marner that took the elbow. I think Kadri is definitely getting suspended - the only arguments against suspension I've seen are that (1) Wingels had fallen and (2) Marner got hit high before that... not sure how either argument can disprove that what Kadri did was extremely dangerous and suspension-worthy. Hell, the Leafs are practicing today with Johnsson in his spot on the PP... I think you can book it that he'll get at least a game, maybe 2.
I'm not saying the DoPS is consistent, but if Doughty got 1 game for brushing the guys head, Kadri should expect some time off.

Is Gallagher a legit 30 goal scorer?
Hmm here are some things to think about...
Need to define what a "30 goal scorer" is then?
Scored 30 goals with virtually no support this year. Never had a #1 centerman.
Scored 19 in 53 a couple years ago before getting his hand disintegrated into a million pieces. (On pace for 30 that year)
Is he a Pacioretty type sniper 30+ goal scorer? No but then again, he's done it this year, he could of had the year before when he got injured, barring injury his goals all came from hard work and he's one of the hardest working players in the league so....I mean is Grabner a "30 goal scorer"? He's done it once before and has flirted with it multiple times while playing less minutes than other 30 goal scorers.....
Not sure you can make an argument that he <em>isn't </em>a 30 goal scorer... What you can do however is define what a 30 goal scorer is in your mind and make an argument to fit your perception and it be valid.
The more accurate question is he an elite 30 goal scorer? A la Tarasenko, Seguin, etc? No he is not. We all know this. He could score 40 and I wouldn't change my mind.
Scoring 30 goals doesn't make you <em>that</em> good of a player anymore. 3rd liners can get 30 in this league nowadays. Scoring points has become less significant than it used to be. Its really coming down to how you score them IMO. That's the only way to separate <em>the guys who scored 30 goals</em> from the "<strong>30 goal scorers</strong>".

LMFAO...Lucic is atrocious! A slightly athletic turtle is faster than him. He literally contributes nothing to the Oilers lineup except an awful cap hit. You could replace him with an AHLer and you wouldn't see the Oilers on ice performance change one bit.

If you wanted to go by "what if we drafted the right picks" over the last 10 years it would look like this:
Mikhail Sergachev
Connor McDavid
Leon Draisaitl
Rasmus Ristolainen
Colton Parayko
Nikita Kucherov
Tyler Seguin
Ryan O'Reilly
Braden Holtby
Jamie Benn
Now, there's no such team in NHL. Not even close. Can't expect any GM to pick the perfect players in every draft. Just have to expect them not to pick the Yakupovs of the world

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>rangersandislesfan</b></div><div>About the lottery why not just go with the real life lottery? it's no big deal but we'd just go with the teams in our league that have the same chances as the real life winners. Jeepers man. If you're so concerned about the lottery and you getting a better pick, maybe try making trades that ensure your teams even makes it into the lottery instead of looking for a handout.
I'm busting my ass off trying to improve the mess of a team I took over and have a hard enough time trying to get others to make deals, yet I watch your team page and every team is practically handing you the world yet you turn them away. I could only WISH some of those offers were made to my team.......and I don't even care about the lottery. I care about trying to make my team better, NOW and worry about lotteries and drafts when they come around.
You also need to decide between yourself and your AGM on what the heck you're doing. Are you trying to be a playoff team this year? If so no need to worry about the lottery. OR are you trying to tank in order to get a better shot at a high lottery pick...if the latter is the case there's ways to help....but you have to actually TRADE someone and ask for picks in return or fringe players.
The last thing I'll add to this thought is........Kevin Bieksa for Mike Hoffman??

What can Habs do. Opinions pls
I love the Pacioretty trade for RNH. Both sides could benefit short term and long term. However, I don't like the other deals. No way would MTL trade away Jordie Benn for only a 3rd rounder; He's been solid this season and is worth at least a second round pick.
Marc Bergevin still places high value on Alex Galchenyuk and would never trade him for Faksa. He'd need a 1st round pick at least. He could be a 25-30G scorer again in the right situation.
Finally, I don't like the possibility of trading for Plakanic. Pittsburgh feels they're still a Cup contender and definitely needs to improve 5 on 5. But, Plakenic isn't enough and the price you're suggesting is quite high for a rental w/ minimal offensive upside. They're going to be targeting guys w/ more offensive upside like Evander Kane and Max Paciooretty, or possibly Thomas Vanek or Tyler Bozak.

Marchand strikes again!
Marchand has lost the benefit of the doubt from me. He has a history of disguising cheap shots as accidents.
6 suspensions 19 games and over $800k in fines?
That first number needs to be a lot lower, and if it isn't, those other numbers need to be much higher. I think he's averaging one suspension per season at this point. That's 1 too many each year to be considered accidental.
Apparently, he still gets to go to the all star game?
That's ridiculous.

Marchand's my least favourite player. It looked brutal and was well deserved. It may have been an accident but his other antics may say otherwise. Marchand is the rat who scores on you and then hurts you. Best way I can explain his antics. I would not even like him if he played for my teams. Yes, even if he was a hab, I would still hate him.

I think the NHLDoS needs to re-evaluate the fines imposed on players.
There isn't enough of an economic disincentive if the fine isn't progressive relative to their salary. What's $5,000 to a player who makes $5,000,000? There needs to be a much stronger economic disincentive to not commit these dangerous plays. Making the fine directly proportionate to their salary will eliminate these dangerous plays almost immediately. You wouldn't speed if it meant you got fined "x" percentage of your income.

I agree, but fines are tied to salary, According to the CBA, a player can be fined up to 50% of one day's salary, with a maximum of $10,000 on the first offense and $15,000 on subsequent offenses. The NHLPA would fight hard against any fine increases in the next round of CBA negotiations. I also can't really see the owners having any reason to increase the amount, so it probably won't be brought up.

I agree that the PA will push back on this, but I would assume that if they truly care about not having CTE or any sort of brain damage, they need to implement a fine that players will notice in their wallet. I think players will look back in ten, twenty years and think: "should we have increased fines to lower broken brains?"
CTE is going to be a huge topic now and going forward. I think this is the best way to lower the chances of CTE, but I'm coming from an outside perspective. I'm neither a player, nor an owner.

True. If they can't restructure the fine system, they need to be more strict on suspensions, especially since those result in much more lost salary than ordinary fines.

No problem with the suspension. Watching it in real time it looked like it was incidental, but the more you watch it in slow motion it looks like Marchy knew exactly what he was doing. For a guy as talented as he is, these antics need to stop. Not only is he hurting players, but he's hurting his own team by missing time. The problem for Marchy is he's at his best when he plays on that line, but every year he crosses that line and is reckless. When he does return, I wouldn't be shocked to see him go through a bit of a production drought. Last year the same thing happened and while he had 4pts in 6 games, he wasn't taking over games like he was pre-suspension.
I wouldn't have thought by now Marchand would have found that sweet spot of playing on the line....apparently not. Next time he targets a players head like that, give him a 25 games suspension
