he is signed for 7 more years at nearly $8m that goes directly into when we *should* exit the rebuild

What if they run 3 goalies
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ritzy</b></div><div>To be fair, they didn't trade for Patches, they got him for free, plus another asset. There's a good chance he would have done quite well if he stayed healthy, considering he had 3 goals in the 5 games he did play.</div></div>
the reason why vegas traded him was bc he wasnt healthy. waddell wanted a quick out to actually making a move so he added a dude he could just put on LTIR if he once again got hurt. he did and essentially wasted this season because of it. bc of the way LTIR works he couldnt make another move (not like he was going to anyways)
its no secret as to why vegas is 4 games from a cup and the canes are, once again, left embarrassed
im ok ppl are willing to defend waddell but either him or brindamour has to go. personally waddell should have been gone years ago, but lets see what brindamour can do with an actual roster and a gm that has his back. it would be nice to see

What if they run 3 goalies
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ritzy</b></div><div>Plenty of other teams, mine included, spent the assets to bring in rentals to make the team "better" and haven't gotten as far as CAR has. No cup, and now less assets. At least CAR kept their assets to have a future. If you sell off enough young assets/picks, you're eventually going to find yourself in a rebuild. CAR is remaining competitive, the evidence being that they've at LEAST made the second round 4 of the last 5 years, while also keeping their future.
As ecupirate07 said above, there is no one winning formula to winning a championship.</div></div>
nobody is asking him to trade for rentals. he should have a pulse in free agency instead of trading for max pacioretty just to waste $7M the whole year lol
the leafs at least try to win. its respectable. canes would rather not. thats all

when you refuse to move your abundance of young assets and picks that do not have the superstar upside to help you win a championship you are afraid to win because taking a risk could lose you your job
he reminds me of ron hextall in that way. wonder what hes up to

he moved lindholm and hanifin to get a 2nd and 3rd round draft pick in exchange for adam fox and dougie hamilton. again he is scared to win a stanley cup

call me crazy but i think they only have to give up a mid round pick. also this screams waddell because he is terrified of giving up actual assets and trying to win championships

for one he got a 2nd and 3rd round pick for Fox, Hamilton, Trocheck and Niederreiter combined because he is incapable of resigning his players
he screwed the cap space this year because he really wanted Patches for some reason instead of actually doing something in free agency. remember when people clowned vegas and called waddell a genius? good times

a quick look at the future
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DH28Hockey</b></div><div>I'm generally not a fan of drafting for need myself, but in this case I think the gap between ASP and Leonard in terms of overall quality is close enough that there's no way they should go with the RW over the RHD. Moore I could be a bit more on board with since he plays Center, but even then I have my reservations as to if he's good enough to warrant 7OA.
I guess the big thing for me here is that I don't agree about just "going defense heavy when they see fit". RHD prospects are few and far between and generally take longer to develop, and it really is a bad idea to just assume "we'll find them later". For example, I keep seeing people say "next year is the year to go RHD, that class is D heavy!". The problem there is you basically have Levshunov who should probably land around 2 or 3, and Mews who belongs in the 9-12 range. Say Mews has a mid draft season and his stock lowers further than that. Next thing you know, you're basically stuck between reaching for Mews a ton around the 5-7 range (where I suspect the Flyers will end in draft positioning), or desperately trying to trade up for Levshunov (which teams seldom to never trade down).
Desperate attempts at filling RHD via trade and FA are one of the primary reasons we're in the mess now. They absolutely need to address it via draft this time around, and that likely means taking a risk on a guy a bit sooner than he should go in the draft (even though I think ASP belongs around 7 anyways)</div></div>
im fine with whatever. its not atypical for teams to get good defensemen later on in their rebuild, like the devils, sabres, rangers, etc. devils and rangers got siegenthaler and fox for a 2nd and 3rd total. thats what we gave up for TDA lol. they just need to be smarter than they were in the past
