Busts
Zacha is so far from a bust its unbelievable. I don't understand how so many ignorant fans just want to see him traded.
The guy has not played with stellar linemates, he was drafted and played on a garbage team to begin with, some of the worst in NJD history.
He is a regular NHLer unlike many on this list
AND if he was an absolute stud since day 1 NJ doesn't have hughes or hischier, so everyone needs to relax, hes a pretty affordable, reliable, and talented 3C (AT A MINIMUM) who is just getting started

I know the Isles are interested in Laine and we have D and prospects to spare!</div></div>
I also want to be clear, im not saying whether the value is off or laine isn't worth anything, I'm only saying based on the rumored price I think carolina doesn't have to give up as much. If mcdonalds says your total is $5 you arent going to pay $8

According to sources, the Winnipeg Jets have held internal discussions about trading Laine to the eastern conference. While the team is set on choosing Kyle Connor over Laine, they continue to work the phones on what type of return Laine could pull in.
New Jersey, Columbus and Detroit have all called Winnipeg inquiring about Laine's services. The Jets would be looking for an NHL defenseman, and NHL ready top prospect.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jgimp69</b></div><div>Ask would be Pesce/Necas at a minimum</div></div>
like I said, theres a rumor three eastern conference teams have inquired about laine, and supposedly the ask is NHL D man and top prospect. If that's the case this is too much to pay.
much like every other deal this summer, teams have not been overpaying for big name players. the fact of the matter is armchair gm trolls want to pretend theyll get the moon and stars for players and actual gm's are taking much different looking deals for a million different reasons ranging from cap issues, to unhappy players, to injury history, etc.
Trouba was going to bring back the top defenseman on the teams he was being traded too +their top prospect , yet in reality, they got 2 months of kevin hayes, and neal pionk
PK Subban got a draft pick, a third pairing d man, and a b prospect
Gusev got two draft picks over consecutive years
My point is, I said based on the rumored ask, this is an overpay. I didn't say he's getting traded but winnipeg is taking offers to see what's out there

I'm in for that for sure, only hesitation is we need some recent draftees playing on the big club defense to sign laine, hall, nico, and jack lol

sign hall
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bulletclub94</b></div><div>Whatever you say, though I don't recall him ever saying that. If you have the article or link please send away.
However I stand by my initial comment, Hall signs for 11+. He has a MVP under his belt and he knows that he gets injured. By taking less money it will hurt him towards the end god forbid he has a career ending injury. It's not his job to worry about the cap, that's why they have GM's to manage the cap.</div></div>
its an old article, i'll try to find it but it'll be tough with how many articles are coming out about his potential free agency. I'm not arguing he isnt worth 11+, I'm only pointing out he isn't looking for a max deal like panarin or bobrovsky were. He's likely looking at something like what crosby signed (at the time - obviously more money now). Whatever team he decides gives him the best chance to win, is where he will go, and if they don't have 12-13 mill in space, he isn't going to pass for the extra 1.5 mill. I personally think he signs 8x10.5-11.5 wherever he goes. I don't think he takes 9MM like whoever made this team, I'm only pointing out hes not going for max
He is for sure on record saying he loves new jersey and it feels like home to him (though if he hated it I doubt he'd come out and say it lol), and he is for sure on record stating his next contract is about winning, and I am very hopeful both are true and he stays lol.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>wojme</b></div><div>Almost half? .41? Dude has 76 points total over 3 seasons. Would be one he** of a breakout</div></div>
correct .41 is almost half a point...
heres the math 1 divided by 2 is .5
.41 is .09 less than .5 = half a point
therefore .41 is almost half a point a game last season, which is exactly what i said.

correct i didn't say you said he would, but if he gets 25 playing 4th line with fill ins and miles wood, hes a lock for 30 with hall and hischier
secondly, its not a secret that high end draft picks can struggle when buried in the line up, when you play with ahlers and people like miles wood (who i like but is basically a train with no finish on the ice) its difficult to put of gawdy #'s
time and time again, you see zacha putting together plays and his linemates not being able to keep up. There's a reason edmonton is looking for someone to play with mcdavid. Contrary to popular belief you can't just throw someone out there. Mcdavid and crosby are productive because theyre the best players in the world. Zacha is good, but hes not a top player in the world. Give him legitimate top 6 talent and see whether he can reach the potential he was drafted for. A high end offensively skilled center who puts up 25 points on the 4th line in a defensive role, should be capable of better things with higher iq linemates

NJ isnt trading zacha unless theres a serious return, despite 1/2 the fanbase attacking him because rantanen and barzal were taken after, he is a massive piece on this team and hasn't fully developed yet. How many other "busts" provide as much value as zacha does? My only fear is that he gets buried in the line up, and doesn't get the opportunity to continue developing offensively
1st off teams that win cups need depth. as a depth center, he is extraordinarily capable and can play zajac role for years to come (as a floor for his skills)
2nd - if zacha developed immediately like barzal and co - there's a strong chance we don't wind up with hischier or hughes

My 2019-20 standing predictions
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Molson22</b></div><div>I think people are overhyping all of those teams Colorado doesn't have much depth their D is still very young and I don't think Grubauer and Francouz are all that great. The Rangers have lots of young talent and are relying a lot on their young guys they could be good, but I just don't see it. And for Calgary I just don't think Rittich and Talbot are the answer.</div></div>
i think rangers are a year or two early as well.
I think pitt isnt so high but may be diff this year with the long summer...usually they are hot garbage and roll when they need to to make playoffs, but I don't see them at 2 - flyers are always a wild card so who knows...theoretically they should probably have won cups but like they also are terrible so idk lol
I think west is pretty good but I think Colorado and Chicago are better than bottom 3, also think winnipeg will drop this year, maybe out of playoffs

There's a reason why the teams with the two way d men win, and the ones with the offensive d men lose.
it's fine though. The leafs will score a million goals this season. They'll give up a boat load too. Everyone will be excited for a deep cup run, and then.....round 1 or 2 exit. Why? Because their back end is thin, offensively oriented, and can't stand up to a team that has more than one good scoring line.</div></div>
also unlike true contenders, the leafs players want to get max value contracts

NJ Wont Contend For Another 3-4 Years Therfore Trade Hall
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Wings41326</b></div><div>Im a NJD fan. But I know that they aren't winning any cups soon. Have they tremendously improved? yes. But this trade , as all ACGM teams are, is hypothetical. Whether CGY accepts or not, you have to somewhat agree that this trade would set NJ up for a long time of contention.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Well,I don't see the Flames making the deal for two expiring contracts. Looks like Devils are trying to put on a respectable lineup this season, They will time during the year to make trade for Hall and Vatanen if the Devils feel the need to trade for futures. But I do feel the Devils are going to OK going forward. Some good young pieces, getting cap with expiring contracts. Even if Hall is resigned, there some cap space to spend on other player(s)</div></div>
I think they are far closer to contending than you're giving credit for.. with or without hall
People want to say they're unproven, don't know how to mesh, fill in whatever criticism you want, at the end of the day:
jack hughes is a gamer, he took over US vs Russia which is best of the best. On NJ he will get the opportunity he wasn't getting in the tourney
gusev has shown the skillset, hes shown the ability to play against NHL level competition, and hes played very closely and well on lines with NHL'ers, he has the mindset and the opportunity unlike someone like ship who wasn't really given a fair shake (who was also older, and not as good)
PK Subban is a season removed from a norris, if he doesn't win the norris this year, I'm near certain his floor is still significantly higher than the defense of the team that made playoffs a year ago
Hall, is finally healthy, whether it lasts or doesn't remains to be seen, we all know how good he is
Hischier is a #1 center, his development continues to impress
Zacha is an everyday NHLer, is legit the top pker in the nhl, and is finally starting to show his offensive talent,...even without it, you need these guys to succeed.
Zajac continues to be old reliable, no reason to think he wont be steady as ever
Palmieri is underrated on both sides of the puck and stats show he is actually an elite shooter
The bare minimum simmonds brings is a physical presence we desperately needed, any goals he contributes are bonuses
I haven't even gotten to the progression of bratt, butcher, severson, wood or the potential injection of talent from smith and boqvist
The only thing that could derail everything is if a healthy schneider can't get it together (though it appears he turned the corner) and the MB show comes to a screeching halt - who btw showed better than hart on a worse club
