MM 3 - year Deal
3 year Marner deal will end up looking like this:
3y/$23.25M ($7.75 AAV)
Year 1: Salary-$700,000, Signing Bonus-$6,300,000
Year 2: Salary-$700,000, Signing Bonus-$3,550,000
Year 3: Salary: $12,000,000
Leafs will be forced to qualify MM at over $12M per year on his next deal. This is the way MM guarantees himself a monster new deal after this bridge.

What Could Marner Trade Get
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TCMonkey</b></div><div>INCLUDE??? Jesus, even if it's 1 for 1 that deal favours the Leafs, IMO. Yes, Makar has only played 10 games, but as you pointed out they were all in the playoffs, which are the hardest games to play in with unbelievable pressure - and this 20 y/o kid, coming from a college team, steps in for over 17 minutes per game and puts up 6 points in 10 games? That's HUGE and I don't think Toronto is in a position to make that kind of deal. Sorry.</div></div>
10 games is a tiny sample size. IMO a 1 for 1 deal favours the Avs because you know what you're getting in Marner. Makar has superstar POTENTIAL, but he needs to show more for me,

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LoganOllivier</b></div><div>I think Mikheyev could find a home next to Matthews and Nylander. He's got the wheels, good hands and is big. He could be exactly what those guys need and if he is good with crashing the net, he could score a lot of goals by cleaning up Matthews garbage.
I want to see a Kerfoot, Johnsson and Kapanen 3rd line. Those guys could feast on other 3rd lines.</div></div>
I hope you are right about Mikheyev. I haven't seen him play much. He looks pretty lanky they way he skates. Hopefully he can keep up.

I know he has endless potential, but he's only played 10 NHL games (all in the playoffs). I know he means a lot to Colordao, but in terms of actual value I think Colorado would need to add to a Marner for Makar deal. Marner has proven he can play and be dominant for 3 seasons, whereas Makar is really entering his rookie year.

A Season Without Marner
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LoganOllivier</b></div><div>I don't get the whole play Kapanen on the left side thing. Put him on the 3rd line with Kerfoot to play against lesser competition, he'll look better and he really doesn't work with Matthews. Or play him on the RW with Tavares and let Tavares be the playmaker on that line. Matthews and Nylander should have a bigger guy who can crash the net and win battles along the boards instead of a rush player. Having someone that can create space for Nylander and Matthews is the way to go. Kapanen is not that player at all</div></div>
I couldn't agree with you more. Kapanen is a nice player, but he looked out of place on Matthew's wing a lot of the time.
Matthews and Nylander should play the entire season together. I would like to see Hyman back on their line, but it's more likely to be Johnsson.

I'm sure he could do a good job, but the Leafs also likely have plenty of guys that they could bring up to fill such a small role.

While I want it to get done too, the fact that WPG, CAL, COL, TB, BOS, etc. haven't signed their high-profile RFAs makes things better.
I think we're going to see multiple holdouts this year.

Toronto Maple Raptors DeRozan Type Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>feds91stammer</b></div><div>21 man roster lol</div></div>
There's a very good chance that Toronto will use a 21 man roster this year. They can get away with it with their AHL arm team being located 10 mins down the street and with both teams using the same primary practice facility. The Leafs used a shortened roster during periods of last season as well.

These fans that are throwing these big deals at Marner are going to be in for a rude awakening when he isn't playing on one of the top lines and powerplays in the NHL. Marner is a great player, but he's also in a perfect situation in Toronto. He plays with one of the leagues best centres and finishers in Tavares and one of the leagues best fore-checkers in Hyman. I don't think he's a 90+ point player in Columbus. That deal would look ugly quick!

Pesce had 30, Pesce defensively is more solid than anyone on Toronto and combined they out produced Marner. It's not a bad idea, but I still think Carolina would hold out for one of the big C's, either Matthews or Tavares, and I understand that sounds unrealistic, but I just cannot see it</div></div>
It's fair to believe that the Leafs would need to add something to the Marner deal... But there is zero point in the Canes holding out for Matthews or Tavares. Tavares has a full NMC, and Matthews is the next Captain of the Leafs. The Leafs aren't trading him unless McDavid is coming back the other way.

armagadon one step back next year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LoganOllivier</b></div><div>I highly doubt that. In fact I have a believe that Dubas may be waiting to see what offer sheets are coming down from other teams next week. It makes sense to do that for both sides.
I don't think any GM is going to massively overpay Marner, there is no guarantee anyone wants to give him more than 11 million. Especially when you consider there is Point out there as a possibility as well as well as Rantanen. So with that in mind, it doesn't really seem like a smart idea for a rival GM to sell the farm for a player that while being a superstar, is still a winger and did see some boosting of stats due to playing with a great supporting cast.
So come Wednesday there are several possibilities, none of which are Marner signing an offer sheet (He can't until July 1)
Option 1)
A rival GM informs Marner's agent they will offer him a 7 year 11 million dollar contract. Ferris would then tell Dubas this information likely to get a better offer from TO.
Option 2)
No offers of 11+ are tabled, and Ferris learns that getting 10 million might not be possible which could narrow the gap between TO and Marner.
Option 3)
Offers that come in are essentially the same as what TO is currently discussing. That would likely mean a deal would get done relatively quickly since there isn't much ammo to hold out, especially considering the Leafs are probably just shy of 10 million in their offers already.
So the whole Marner is getting offer sheeted idea doesn't have a tonne of weight to it. I just don't see why any team would go out and make Marner the 3rd highest paid player in the NHL when he isn't yet at that level of player. Giving up 4 first round picks is a hefty price to give up. Personally I think what will happen is come Wednesday, Ferris will see an offer of 7x10.5 from some GM and use that to squeeze TO for some extra money. I've said for a while now, Marner is going to sign a deal in that neighbourhood with TO. 8x10 or so.
Kapanen is getting traded and I bet Johnsson goes to arbitration and gets a 1 or 2 year deal.</div></div>
THANK YOU! FINALLY SOMEONE GETS IT!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pharrow</b></div><div>You really don't get it. the 4 late 1sts don't hold that much value. Why do you think they are traded for rentals all the time. We aren't talking about top 10 picks here.
Honestly the last guy drafted out of the 25+ pick range with any real equivalent value is Pastrnak (2014?), good luck with that hope and prayer of finding anything of equal value. It's a nightmare situation to let a stacked team that can win get their hands on him aka CBJ. That team lands a chance at the cup, you land a chance at 4 bad picks and some cap space that you pray you can use to find a player as good.
And yes, I do think he takes the money. No two ways about that. To say he doesn't is just foolish. 1 million a year is 1 million a year, especially when your contract is only 5 years, which is what he wants. Going to the right team he also gets to fill the cup with hot dogs and troll you.</div></div>
If 4 first round picks hold no value, how come we never see offer sheets?
