<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DefenseFirst</b></div><div>A) like who? Don’t just say, “someone.” Who’s a better fit?
B) save those picks, and then do what if someone gets hurt?</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dannibalcorpse</b></div><div>I think you're stuck on the age thing (mentioning him retiring in that other post you referenced) which is a moot point when you're talking about a rental. Parise could be 28, 38, or 48 - not every rental trade has to be made with an eye towards re-signing the guy.
And while I get not wanting to spend futures, well - you break a few eggs to make an omelet, no? A pick in the 90s & another in the 120s aren't a crazy price to pay for the depth Parise gives - as you said, it's the "last dance" so why *not* spend picks that will become players you probably don't see crack an NHL roster for 3-4 years (if ever) and instead get someone who can help your team right now. Instead of having to worry about guys like Mac McLaughlin or Joona Kapponen having to play every night, or guys like Frederic having to play out of position on a line they may not be familiar with (or one their play style might not mesh with), you get a swiss army knife guy like Parise to slot in wherever you need him. You get a big C like Bjugstad who can win faceoffs and play strong defense if a guy like Nosek gets banged up. You get a Schenn in case Connor Clifton turns into a pumpkin in the playoffs.</div></div>
If we assume that Reilly and Smith get shipped out to clear cap. I would say Garland or even Puljujarvi not my favorite choice but an option. Could add Schenn too which I'm fine with. Also Zboril is a viable third pairing defenseman if Clifton becomes a pumpkin and we have Stralman if things really went wrong.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dannibalcorpse</b></div><div>Trent Federic is on pace for 19 goals, has a grand total of about a minute and a half all season long on the PP, and averages less than 30 seconds a night on the PK. He also makes $300K more than Parise (so, not the league minimum.) He also has almost a grand total of 4 playoff games to his name (and has spent almost as much time in the box as he has on the actual ice!)
Other than all that, sure thing, they're the same.</div></div>
You are completely missing the point. If you want to haggle over the difference in 3 goals go for it. You can see my last post to hopefully understand what I am trying to say. The Bruins have a bad prospect pool and not a lot of picks to replenish them. I don't understand the logic of sending them away for a guy that old when they could either A) Spend the picks on someone younger. or B) save them to draft players and keep the best team in the NHL how it is. Depth add I get it, and I am a fan of making some sort of add at the deadline because this is the last dance. But Parise should be far from top of the board.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DefenseFirst</b></div><div>Are you laboring under the delusion that Zach parise is intended to replace Trent frederic?</div></div>
I didn't say anything about replacing. I was simply pointing out that every thing they just attributed to Parise describes Trent Frederic who is 24 instead of 38. I don't have a problem with adding depth. But if you are going to spend picks (which the Bruins have few of) spend it on depth you can sign for awhile rather than a guy that could retire in a year or two. The Bruins are old enough there is no reason to waste any assets to get older. Same philosophy behind the Zacha Haula trade.

Meier will cost a 1st & Lysell to start; Garland scores at a lower rate than him, doesn't kill penalties, and has nearly a $5M cap as a middle-6 guy. I don't get the aversion to getting a good, solid, cheap rental for a team primed for a Cup run - signing or cheaply acquiring guys like this is exactly what Cup teams like Colorado (Darren Helm, Andrew Cogliano) and Tampa (Corey Perry, Pat Maroon) do to solidify a great squad.</div></div>

I've watched him when he has played the Bruins. I'd rather see them take a swing on a Garland or a Meier. Or keep the best team in the NHL right now and just get a young depth forward. Not a player ready for the retirement home.

There are other places to find better adds. And the Islanders are bums. He is a pure rental and if we are going to go for someone they shouldn't be an ancient relic.

What Id do once everything falls into place controversial
Watched every game last year. He's an analytics darling and I like every single one of the 8 defensemen in this lineup more. I don't even know who those people are. I don't see the need for a replacement with Zboril and so many other options in our D core right now. Especially if we sign Stralman (ik he doesn't replace Grz but frees up Zboril or guys like Achan to)

I think you way overvalue him. No one is giving up a second or more for an undersized defenseman that can't stay healthy and plays soft. It would be different if he had a huge offensive upside but he doesn't do enough to make up for all the negatives.

It’s a tough spot because Debrusk needs to go but if you go center then you have no RW for top line and if you go RW then your stuck with Haula at 2C. Also what bonfires center is even an option at this point ?

I don't think you have a good enough prospect. Maybe Swayman, but i don't think Bruins trade him. I don't think Lysell is enough.
I think a trade would look like this : Swayman, DeBrusk, 1st and 2nd.</div></div>
What about Debrusk, Achan, Lohrei, Studnicka, Two firsts and a second

I expect Anaheim to be sellers and Lindholm is in his final year so I mean he's basically an expensive loan. I didn't think a decently promising young defensemen, and a relatively consitant NHL player plus a prospect and a pick was that bad for someone who could be gone soon anyway.
