Thompson's journey to the NHL took him from Major Junior (WHL Brandon) to Canadian University Hockey (Brock), the ECHL, AHL, and eventually the NHL. He's a bit of an underdog who has battled his way to the NHL.
Thompson is best described as 'efficient'. He isn't the most athletic goalie. He isn't the quickest moving laterally. He doesn't have a unique element, other than being a south paw, that stands out as outstanding.
He is big in the net. Gives the shooter a different look with his right hand / glove hand, and generally plays between his posts. Rarely is he caught wandering. A platoon #1B / #2A at the NHL level.
2.65 GAA / .915 save % last season. Kicking out 2.17 GAA and .932 % at beginning of 23/24
