Chychrun's year has mirrored that of his team mates. Inconsistent.
He's a first pairing workhorse at even strength.
In his first 47GP he averaged 22:41 TOI - 19:47 ES - 2:40 PP - Depth / very ltd role on the PK
He produced 8G-20A - with 3G-8A coming on the PP.
Defensively he was a (-11) - which is second worst on the team and worst in the defensive group. It has to be considered, however, that he matches up against top lines every night / there are no easy shifts for Chychrun.
Great skater. Fast on straight lines. Agile. His 'routes' defending and keeping opponents to the perimeter have room for better execution - as does his gap control - defending against the rush
Chychrun isn't overly physical but he's willing to get in the lane to block shots (credited with 26hits and 81 shot blocks)
Speaking to his inconsistency - in a five game segment between January 23rd - 31st he was a (-6) in the first three games vs MTL / NYR / Bos ... followed by a (+1) rating in two games versus Nashville and Detroit . In the last two games he skated 26:27 vs NSH and 28:37 vs Det
2-way 'D' - provides better than secondary offense - dangerous on the PP - finds a lane on the back-side seam and knows how to finish / one time pucks
