Yes, he sure has. Since he became GM the team is 154-69-23 over three regular seasons, making the playoffs all three years and making the ECF twice while also winning a President's Trophy. Yes, down right mediocre.

The play of the team is not reflective of his performance as a GM. Look at what he's done after taking the reigns of the organization in the past year. Add NO needle movers at the deadline which at the end of the day cost the team in the playoffs. Made 1 UFA signing (Sam ****ing Carrick, an AHL level forward for 3 years.) Blown the whole Trouba thing to a new level. Need I go on? Although I will say the team has drafted well the past two years, but that's more the scouting then anything.

Yeah I agree, the way I phrased that probably isn't the best way of saying what I mean. The players on the team that have performed well (outside of trocheck) were all here before Drury fully took the reigns. Like I said, outside of Trocheck and if you want to consider Quick, Drury hasn't really made any signings/trades that have panned out for the team.

All a GM can do is make the trades or sign the free agents, they can't play the game for them. He has brought in some good players for playoff runs such as Copp, Vatrano, Kane, Tarasenko and Motte and has not given away a ton to get them. He gave up more for Copp because I'm sure he wanted him long term, but thankfully didn't sign him for what Detroit gave him. He has signed Kakko, Chytil, Miller, Lindy and Laffy to team friendly deals, as well as Igor. He has brought in some nice cheap depth players like Gus this past season and even Wheeler for what he paid him. Is he perfect? Of course not, no one is. But how do you judge a GM anyway? On how the team he assembles performs, including the coaching staff he puts in place, and by that metric he has been way more successful than most NHL GM's and anything but ordinary.
