Duchene won't get you a top Dman, but Mackinnon gets you Parayko and you also swap Barrie for Schwartz. St. Louis finally gets a number 1 center, while replacing Shatty offense with Barrie's.
Trade Landy for his potential replacement and a great LHD prospect.
Trade Duchene for his replacement, a first, and a character contract dump.
Johnson for Carlson makes sense. With Parayko in the fold the team has a potential number 1 shut down guy if he grows into it, Carlson gives a number 1 offensive defensemen to resign at about 6.5/yr on a long-term deal. Additionally, taking on orpik's contracts nets the Avs Bowey and a 2nd. WSH does this for more contract certainty and a solid number 2 dman to slot behind niskanen. Trade with the Kings is for a potential number 1 center. You take on Browns contract, but he's a leader and not as bad as people think. He's more of a $2-3 million guy, but getting a top center prospect is worth it.
