Hawks decline, a 5th round pick isn’t enough to take Ceci and his $3.25m cap hit for next season. Ceci is a liability on the ice which has really become evident during these playoffs. The Hawks could spend that same money in FA and get an equivalent player or even better, so the Oilers would need to send a 2nd round pick to Chicago to make it worth their while.

If EDM makes the cup finals Ceci should be able to be moved and even get a later pick back. Utah makes the most sense with their lack of Dmen under contract. Ceci still brings playoff experience which is valuable to some teams who can afford to pick up his cap for 1 more season in hopes to get him to re-sign cheaper. He's one of EDM's whipping boys but he still has value.

He's also been stuck with Nurse a lot so that doesn't help. Lol

I'd take Ceci w/ a 5th if the Hawks strike out elsewhere this offseason.

a second is crazy for a playable dman with only a year left. Even crazier when you see someone like lyubushkin fetching a 3rd this year.

if he is already resigned i would argue he is worth a first but i doubt he will come signed, second is more than fair value, he is a top 4 D man but dosent fit torontos system now, sense its a late second is the reason i want a 5th tacked on, if it was an early second 33-40 id pay the 5th.

agree, aside from all the arm chair gm teams, is Toronto actually willing to move him? I've always liked liljegren as a player

i highly doubt he will be back. hes a great player but everything points to treliving giving toronto a treliving D core. big guys who are defensive. they already have their two way and Offensive guys. they are going to be hunting for two big physical shut down right shot D men, i wont be surprised if edmundson is on that bottom pair aswell. i can see liljegren breaking out in edmonton. but his roll is already filled in toronto

yeah i figured so, i feel he'd be a very good replacement if we (hopefully) move on from ceci, and he probably doesn't hold a high cap hit

Ottawa gave up a much better 2nd and a 4th to get rid of Zaitsev at $4.25m for 1 1/5 seasons.

If you need cap space and don’t have it you either pay for it, buy players out or lose lose other more valuable players in FA.

ah yes, the same nikita zaitsev that only played 28 games for Ottawa in 5 and a half months. lol. Ceci is a much better player than zaitsev with less money and term.
The two are not comparable.

That’s great Gary but Ceci still makes $3.25m, that money could be used to acquire a better RHD who could be a longer term piece for the team. So to make it worthwhile to tie up those funds in a player with one year remaining who has looked gawd awful in the playoffs the Oilers need to make the financial investment payoff for the Hawks… a 5th round pick is no where near close enough.

Puckpedia’s cap relief calculator values $3,250,000 in cap relief at the 9th pick of the 2nd round, so the Oilers need to send a 2nd round pick to Chicago along with Ceci

obviously doesn't seem accurate if you're asking them to pay similar to what Zaitsev got traded for, it also said Zaitsev would've required a 1st to trade so im not sure how thats entirely accurate lol.

But sure, if you think someone like Lyubushkin is much better than ceci (who fetched a third round pick) then I don't know what to tell ya
