Not sure what their take is but this an odd set of pieces moving both ways. From CGY you are sending a 1A/B goalie and a solid second liner. From BUF you are sending a 3rd pair D and and a 7th/8th Dman with a AHL'er with a bright future. Why would either team want to do this? If you start with Mangiapane for Rosen as a start then BUF adds to balance it out. But Markstrom wants to be a 1A option for a team and he wouldn't likely be that in BUF. That's why NJD were such a good option for him to waive his NMC for. From CGY, Joker & Bryson don't move the needle unless they need bodies on defense. Joker's versatility is probably more valuable in BUF than most places given Sammy's injury history and Joker's ability to play up the D pairs if needed.

Just my thoughts

Luukkonen has been pretty solid for Buffalo during the second half of the season. Levi is coming up. They have a ton of forward prospects, one or two perhaps ready to make the jump starting next year. I think Markstrom and Mangiapane aren't the right guys for the Sabres, as their Cup window is not now to a few years from now. It will begin in a few years. Fin.
