The Preds probably want more useful pieces for Saros, which I've tried to compensate for with picks. For them, the value here is all in the futures they can draft. Ostapchuck is the Sens's last quality forward prospect and he should be worth some interest. Korpisalo has been bad, but the sens need to move him if Saros is coming in and the extra second is for taking him on.
I think the Sens hurt themselves badly by trading one of their top nine right now, and their defence doesn't have the depth to be able to handle trading someone like Chychrun without a good replacement coming back (hamonic is REALLY bad, which is why I've sent him down through the waiver wire). This mortgages even more futures than Ottawa can barely afford to lose to bet on the current guys on the roster.
I agree with this, which is why I tried to make the trade without using any of the actually good players on the team. Frankly I can't figure out why people are so eager to trade Norris. He's young, on a long-term deal, and is recovering from injury.
I think the sens need an upgrade at goalie, but I think throwing away the great organizational depth they have in their top 9 forward group to get it done would be a mistake. I'm convinced that keeping guys like Pinto and Greig on bridge contracts will be crucial for long-term success. I'd maybe move Chychrun to clear up the awkward construction of the D corps, but then you gotta find a RHD replacement for him that doesn't cost more than like 6 mil a year.
Norris had 55 points in 66 games 2 years ago, last year he had a devastating shoulder injury that made him 76 games and a few games this year, it will take some time for him to re-adjust and fully trust his shoulder again to play at his full potential, giving up on him now is like how OTT gave up on ziby and traded him away for brassard.
