Most 3rd Rounders don't ever crack a lineup consistently. David Kampf is a fine 4th line F. That's better than most 3rd round picks.

One Retention spot in Mangiapane is for this year + one more after. For that, Calgary gets Robertson, a 22 year old 20 goal guy (Today), Fraiser Minten - Canada's WJC Captain and a pretty good prospect to play middle 6 C, and a body to replace Tanev and let guys past while the Flames finish the season and try to secure a good draft spot. I don't see why that's not enough for a 27 year old 55 point guy with one extra year retention

You’re forgetting who owns the Flames. Edwards will never pay guys that aren’t playing for his team.
