Actually it could work. He has 4 years at a good cap hit and then once Ritchie is ready he can take over and move McCann to wing. Only problem is cap space for next season.

Well they've already allocated 4 mill for johansen. With him gone it's just 1 mill extra

If landeskog comes back and with McCann cap hit at 4 million with the retention. Avs will only have 3 million on cap.
